    David, "I Drank The Kool Aide" Upgraded my Cornwall4's internally.
    This video got me curious so I called GR Research to get some tube connectors to fix these connections. I have been interested for years in damping the cabinets with No-Rez or something like it. I already did your mid and tweeter Dynamat extreme upgrade you did a few years ago and liked it. So I said Screw It.
    It turned out someone sent to Danny a crossover, and he took all of the specs and sent him all the upgraded parts even though he didn't have the speaker to do any frequency sweeps.
    I was kind of ok with that because I liked how Roy and the crew at Klipsch seemed to have the crossovers blend in nicely and Danny said with the same spec of the upgraded parts they will have the same balance.
    I braced the cabinets and front baffles, added No-rez to most everything I could get to, added tube connectors, assembled the upgraded crossovers parts on 1/4" MDF boards and mounted them to the bottom of the cabinets, dynomated the woofer baskets, soldered the wires directly to the speakers to avoid the connections,
    The changes are wonderful. Cleaner with more detail on the highs and mids, better detail on the bass and it goes stronger to as low as it gets. The speakers were extremely dynamic stock if set up right, but now each instrument or sound has it's own improved dynamics. Basically cleaner punch and details. I keep the grills off so I don't lose any clarity.
    Thankfully mediocre recordings sound a little better, crap ones still sound like crap.
    Danny was spot on on what he told me would happen with the changes, and him and Hobbs were very helpful. I would not use anymore of a fine detailed amp then you have now, as with my Yamaha setting the DAC to Sharp roll off or mid roll off, the sound was clear but a bit boring. I set it to slow roll off and it became beautiful and draws you in so I don't want to leave them.
    If anyone has any questions or wants more details you can feel free to contact me.

      @@tedrubinstein2003 Thanks for your feedback! I bet they are dramatically improved now. Congratulations!
      I’ve been playing around with a WiiM streamer. I did a quick review of it. The room tuning is one of its features and it corrects the frequency response of the whole playback chain including the room. This makes me more confident in trying the crossover upgrades also.

    David, would you be so kind as to tell us how much you enjoy or do not enjoy the Cornwalls after living with them for a couple years.

      Still enjoying them. They’re far from perfect but they’re still very good. I’m getting improved results with my new WiiM Pro Plus streamer that has a room tuning feature.

    Welcome back, looking forward to your next video.
    Did you ever experiment with adding braces or any dampening to the cabinets?

    • @thebostonaudiophile
      @thebostonaudiophile  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not yet. Just a little test bracing in one speaker so far. I hope to fairly soon though.

    Wow, this is shocking. Klipsch are really medieval in some respects. *Thanks* for showing us, easier on my vascular system than if I had bought a new pair and made the discovery myself.
    While I have no doubt Klipsch Heritage Series are wonderful sounding speakers, the obvious route for me would be to buy a used pair and spend money on doing the details right. Klipsch, 78 years of experience; 30 years behind.

      It’s true of many brands, even at fairly high prices. As I mentioned, there are no materially magnetic bits on the crossover or driver connections, only right at the binding posts.

    By push-on connector, do you mean the entire terminal? I wonder if by testing it you have now magnetized that part, making it worse.

      Thanks for the heads up I’ll try to find it.

    Is there any empirical data that shows magnetic binding posts degrade sound quality?

    • @thebostonaudiophile
      @thebostonaudiophile  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question. I don’t know. By “empirical evidence” do you mean some specific measurement or a double blind survey?

      @@thebostonaudiophile I was thinking of a null test. Provide a musical signal to the binding posts with and without magnetic parts and see if there is any difference.

      I appreciate your skepticism. I intend to see if I hear a difference or not. That’s my bottom line.
