    Hard to believe this is Iman Vellani's debut role. Based on the first episode, she really hit the ground running.

    • @chassan10
      @chassan10 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Now she just needs to stop arguing with Kevin Feige about the MCU's numerical designation. That's a slippery slope that can lead to being Terrence Howarded or Edward Nortoned.

      Try to explain a convention to someone unfamiliar with the concept. It can be hard to do if you can't find the right words. If you don't share the same frame of reference it can be really difficult to get an idea across.

    When I was young, I wasn’t as bad as Kamala but I could still relate to her enthusiasm. Even middle aged white dudes like me can find common feelings about things. It doesn’t have to be as basic as the color of your skin or your gender.

    I totally agree with your sentiments with the communities against MCU right now, they are very impatient. I somehow doubt that they were even there when Ironman started, it was around "2008", Marvel had to build characters from then on up until the recent big movies, around 10 years in the making, give a little credit (not to mention even the Marvel Movies before that, Xmens, Blade, etc.). Let's try to understand that the next phase has just begun, so let's view this recent collection of movies and series as more of like an introduction to the next big event. I honestly believe they deserve the respect and patience from us viewers. Please stop the toxic hate because sometimes it burns out people doing their passion, and we don't want that for Marvel as they have been creatively inspiring.

    • @wackyvorlon

      They definitely weren’t around in 2008. In 2008 we were still coping with the legacy of Howard the Duck.

  • @neospock5034
    @neospock5034 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Yeah, I think Marvel Studios knocked it out of the park with this casting, Iman Vellani was great! And the visual style/tone of this episode was awesome. I especially love the way Kamala's imagination embellished the way her everyday world was shown onscreen. And the parents... perfection.
    I understand longtime comic book fans objecting to the way Kamala's origin & powers were changed, but I understand why Marvel Studios went in that direction and people forget the MCU is an alternate universe anyway- they're not showing the 616 comic book universe onscreen. Marvel Studios has creative license to change character backstories, power levels, personal relationships, even their basic powers. And they've been doing it since Phase 1. The tone is lighter and more comedic than earlier Disney+ series, but that's ok- it's targeted towards a younger audience. I think this show was just unfairly criticized by people who already had gripes with the MCU.

But this show is awesome I don't get some of this criticism of it being childish cause this is highly relatable

    Feige and Marvel Studios apparently decided to change Kamala's powers for 3 main reasons. First, Kamala's comic book powers of "stretchiness" or body morphing/elongation are tough to pull off on a TV show budget without looking cheesy. Second, stretching is the signature ability of one of Marvel's most important characters who hasn't made his mainstream universe debut yet- Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four. Marvel Studios didn't want audiences viewing him as "the guy with powers like Kamala" when the Fantastic Four join the MCU party. Third, they wanted more of a link between Captain Marvel and Ms Marvel in the MCU, aside from Carol Danvers being Kamala's favorite hero. The bangle/bracelet provided a way to accomplish that.

    loving this so far. animation sequences worked so much better here than in the get down. to be said, stretch powers never translate well to screen, we have so many fantastic four movies to prove that. energy projection is a good compromise that doesn't change her powerset and works better in a live action setting.

  • @Moricant

    I suspect the power change is down to it being hard (and therefore expensive) to make her comic powers look convincing on the screen, as well as being too similar to Reed Richards. Changing them from inhuman to cosmic powers also makes her fit better with Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau for the Marvels movie, plus they haven’t done the storyline in the MCU that leads to the Terrigen mists that activate her being released.
    Seems like she has more of a Green Lantern type power set going on, which would arguably make her true superpower her imagination. She still did the signature giant hand, and the part where her mom asked her what she was doing and Kamala said she was stretching felt like a nod to her comic powers to me.

    Marvel has a group of fans who apparently doesn’t understand that even if a character is not relatable or doesn’t represent YOU in particular, you can STILL enjoy the character or the story. Most marvel superheroes are white males. I am not one. I still love a lot of the characters. It all comes down to these people being close-minded bigots.
    Edit: ALSO, I love representation! Even if a character doesn’t represent ME in particular, I’m so HAPPY for the people that character does represent! What kind of person would I be to put down others for being happy for seeing proper representation in the media? I’d probably be the kind of person who grew up so privileged that I don’t understand the significance in such things like discrimination.

    13:47 i thik it's not that she can't go out at night, at all. It's the reason why she's going. Here she was going to meet her friend (everyone from her family knows about him) they literally let him stay at their house so in this instance, thay trust her and they also trust him. Whereas her mother obviously have some issues with this whole superhero stuff, plus they are still from different generation and older than her and knows how horrible the world or some people living in it, can be. Now my theory is that her grandmother was actually sort of a super hero and neglected her daughter (kamala's mother) when she was young, so that's why she's being so harsh on Kamala and trying her best to not let Kamala drift towards all this "fantasy world". Obviously they are also implying that both Kamala and her brother are being treated differently by their parents, I'm not sure whether they are doing this because of the general stereotype or because of the reason that i gave above. We will just have to wait and see.

      @@aprile5209 They absolutely tried to compromise. They didn't want her to go so if they didn't compromise the answer would have been simply "No" and that would have been the end of it. They did it in a way that they could also participate in her interests as a family. The problem is they made assumptions and overly committed to them without talking with her first to understand what about it was important to her other than simply going. And she reacted poorly though she is a teenager and that is far more realistic than most tv/movie teen reactions that are more mature than most adults are.

Another fun fact about it is that the band METALLICA bought the rights to the film out-right so that they could use footage from it to create one of the most popular Metal songs ever "One", a song sang through the perspective of a war veteran, which gives a big rundown of the movie and its story. Also also, the movie was written and directed by the author of the novel that it is based on. All-in-all, It's a good thought-provoking movie and I would love to see what you think.

    Love your reactions but I gotta say Disney is ruining a lot! They have destroyed Star Wars and the mcu has become more pg that’s why dead pool 3 add had to point out saying it won’t be disnyfied. And I like kid movies but Disney is just different more sjw and woke that’s why people hate on it, but either way some are good some aren’t.

    Personally I don't really care what they do with the MCU when it comes to as some say the "M-She-U". I respect and have much admiration for females and strong female characters (if they are believable, like Brienne of Tarth from GOT for ex.) but with all the numerous examples as of late, you can't say that it's not an issue at all and those people are just simply being assholes. When I heard the title She Hulk: Attorney at Law I honestly couldn't stop laughing and the new Thor with Jane as a female Thor seems ridiculous imo. Those are the only two that kind of leaves me scratching my head in confusion. Other than that I really don't have a problem.

    • @wackyvorlon
      @wackyvorlon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      She-Hulk has existed as a character since 1980, Jane Foster was first Thor in 2014.
      Also, in the comics at one point a frog was Thor. Jane being Thor is hardly less plausible.
      These two have been around for quite some time now.

      @@robertmolton6761 it’s given time for ideas to be fleshed out and developed. As well, there are many absurd ideas in the source material that we now accept. Peter Parker gains his powers from being bitten by a radioactive spider, that honestly seems no less absurd to me than anything else.
      In the MCU, suspension of disbelief carries a lot of weight. It is not so much plausibility that matters, but rather how the story is actually told. There’s a world full of absurd premises in storytelling, but the telling of the story determines whether we love it. I think given the many grand films that the MCU has brought us it is worth reserving judgement until it’s actually released.
      You might still hate them and find them absurd, which is your right. This is intrinsically subjective. That’s the benefit of a wide variety of characters, hopefully everyone gets something that they connect with. I personally think She-Hulk has the potential to be a lot of fun, I don’t really know how Jane as Thor will play out. I guess it’s neither here nor there for me.
      I would encourage giving them both a shot, though, and Ms Marvel. Even if only for a few minutes. There’s always a chance you might find something you truly enjoy. These things can surprise you.
      Unfortunately people can become very heated about characters that are very close to their hearts. I think the ability to talk about them calmly and in good faith is essential, especially if you’re trying to share something that you love. Not everybody will like it, but some will. And even some who at first thought they would hate it.

    I have to disagree with your "they just want to see the next event movie". My thoughts are Disney/Marvel are actually rushing towards the next event by over-introducing characters because of the combination of movies and TV shows. I'd be much happier with another long series of solo/team movies building towards a great threat (which I guess has to be huge given the Infinity Saga). The problem for me is that Disney/Marvel want to squeeze as much money as possible out of everything so they're introduced fringe, and not very interesting characters, to try and satisfy EVERY demographic which means rushing stories, rushing plotlines, giving thin character development, etc. You've only got to look at Dr Strange 2 and realise it's essentially a Scarlet Witch movie with as much shoe-horned in characters/threads as they can muster. I'd have much preferred a movie about Dr Strange post-Endgame and a separate movie (or series) of Wanda becoming Scarlet Witch and leading to a House of M storyline. Then they could ultimately bring movie threads together for a team/threat ala Avengers. Trying to get every character out there as quickly as possible, in rushed under developed TV shows, just isn't working for me. But each to their own obviously.

      What is wrong with Marvel trying to satisfy every demographic? Why do you feel they should cater to only the demographics you care about or approve of ? Marvel should only produce stuff that you like? Who died and made you a gatekeeper for Marvel content? Like wtf?

    • @damianlord7954
      @damianlord7954 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@enadegheeghaghe6369 I get your point, I'm not saying they should only produce what matters to me. What I'm saying is that by trying to cater for every demographic they're essentially causing a problem, because they're trying to satisfy everyone. What I'm trying to say is that ultimately story/character should come first, not targeting demographics and then building your narration around that. Cater for everyone, definitely, but at the expense of chopping/changes this to target demographics as your first aim, then no. For example, they have a set of well established characters which they're now pushing to the back in favour of target a demographic. What I believe they should have done is develop a new set of characters/stories on screen for whomever they wanted to target (from a huge rich back catalogue) separately, without devaluing or pushing existing characters into the background (which is how they've gone about it). Then they'd have two sets of stories and characters for multiple demos to enjoy, which could continue separately and come together on/off. What they've actually done is built a base set of characters then decided to trounce them on screen at the same time as bringing new characters, that's where the problem lies and why you're going to get annoyed fans and a split fan base.
