3D Printed Dog Wheelchair

This is a quick and rough video on a different topic than I normally deal with. I've designed and built a partially 3D printed wheelchair for my dog. I thought you all might find it an interesting use for 3D printing, an I hope that maybe it helps someone out there with their pooch.

This is prototype design not meant for individuals without basic fabrication and CAD skills necessary to adapt and overcome issues as necessary.

Great project. Our old dog completely lost mobility in her rear legs so we bought her a wheel chair. She took to it very well and used to get up to some real speeds!

That's cool. My brother worked at as an engineer at a dog care company(Dog Quality). He made a fairly large size dog wheelchair. I think its still in the process of sourcing, and I remember it being quite expensive.

Yeah, they weren't cheap at all. It worked great for several months. There's a lot I'd change but hopefully someone out there will take it to the next level.

My dog just turned 14. He's doing well but his back legs are a little wobbly. On top of that, he sprained his rear ankle a couple of days ago that makes it almost impossible for him to stand on his own. I'm going to try this out while has ankle recovers and then I'll have it if his rear end starts to deteriorate anymore.

I should have waited until the end to comment lol. I didn't realize that training would take that long so might not be helpful with the current ankle situation but we'll see. Thanks again.

Yeah. The training can take a few weeks. That’s the issue we ran into with our dog. His rear end just got too weak.

​@@IndeterminateDesign Well I got it built and we tried it out today. It seems like he'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. I think I'll take the opportunity to train my other dog on it while she's healthy in case she'll need it in the future.

Prana hiking pants. They have a built in belt which I love because I'm at that point in my life.
