  • Happy new year! Thought I'd start the year off with some thoughts on what you might experience from buying your dream car.. at least what it was like from my perspective, especially the aftermath. There's plenty of videos on reactions and first drives, but I've always been curious on that deeper dive and it turns out there's some unexpected aspects to that experience. I ordered these from most subjective to objective but results may vary. Enjoy.

    Congrats on the supra! I'm in the same boat as well. I bought an mk4 supra a couple years back as well...definitely overpaid and wasn't the wisest financial decision for me, but i felt if i waited longer i would miss the opportunity to own one as clean( mine has 27k miles) . I had tunnel vision for this car and it was an obsession, but I love it! Goal accomplished and lessons learned

      What did you get? I plan on getting a older 3,4L Porsche Cayman, they are not that bad on the fuel consumption if you drive on the highway at steady speed. But when you rev them out to 7500 or 7000 rpm they are NOT fuel efficient, so then you measure it in smiles per liter :)
      I got my dream car in 2001 for 500$, I did not know it was my dream car lol ;) It was pretty much same car my dad had a 1976 Ascona B 2 door RWD family car with 90hp. Most fun car to drive I ever had until I ruined the steering on a gravel road hitting a stone while drifting sideways having fun :) Now a car like that cost 25000 to 45000 $ ;( (same as a used Porsche Cayman so I am getting a Porsche...).

    Trick is to actually drive your "dream car" first, it is not certain you like to drive it and not even sure you like it when you see it for real. The real dream car is a car you like when you get to test drive it. Unless you are only into how it look, then buy a model of it lol ;)

    I recently bought what I thought was my dream car. Ever since I was a kid, I was obsessed with 90s Japanese sports cars.
    It all started when my older brother showing me the fast and the furious movies. When we watched Tokyo Drift, I fell in love with the Veilside Fortune Mazda RX-7.
    At that time, I was living with my grandparents. One day I was talking to my grandpa about my new found obsession. He told me we had a neighbor with a car like that. He walked me over to there house and had them open the garage. I then feasted my eyes on the first Acura NSX I had ever seen in person. It was love at first sight. I was obsessed with the sharp lines and timeless styling.
    In my early 20s, I worked up to a position where I had about $30K to spend on a "dream car". My love for the RX-7 and the NSX had me looking for either of the 2. I quickly learned that NSXs were out of my price range. They were my favorite stock body cars between the 2, but I only had enough money for a USDM RX-7. So, I bought one.
    The RX-7 was great and everyone(including myself) loved it. The original design of it just wasn't my style. So, I ordered the Veilside Fortune Widebody Kit from Japan and committed to transforming the exterior of the car.
    A couple years ars later, the build was complete. I was thrilled with it other than the fact that it was no longer as functional as it was before modifying it. I hated the air suspension. Ultimately, it became to complicated to enjoy on a regular basis. I no longer had the ease of use like any other car I had ever owned. So, I listed it for sale.
    Before I let it go, I managed to find what I thought was my dream spec NSX listed for sale. It was a RHD 1992 Honda NSX from Japan. It was advertised as having ultra rare Nuetron White Pearl paint "1 of XX" as the seller claimed. So, I jumped at the chance to buy it before he decided to follow through with listing it on carsandbids as he was considering that alternative.
    The car arrives and appears as described. I was so excited that I committed to having it undergo the entire legal process to be registered in my home state of California. 3 years and $20K later it had California plates.
    I then sold the Veilside RX7 and awaited my appointment to customize my NSX to my liking.
    When the time finally came time to lightly modify the NSX to my taste, I was informed that I greatly overpaid for the spec. The lead bodyman/painter showed me that the entire exterior of the car had been repainted a different pearl white(likely do to an accident). It still looked great, but not the way it should. It was way off, but it was still the color combination I wanted.
    I tried talking to the seller about what we could do to right his wrong of falsely advertising the car and overcharging me. I waited months for him to follow through on his promise to make things square so we could continue our friendship, but nothing ever came of it. He instead told me to share my experience with everyone I wanted to. I did, and we no longer talk.
    All of that left a sour taste in my mouth. I no longer have a passion for car culture, and my dream car is just a car to me. Don't get me wrong, I love it. I just don't feel the way I should've felt with what I was made to believe I was getting.
    I've since moved on. I'll take care of my car until it becomes more trouble than it's worth. If I ever trade up, it'll be for a Murcielago.

      @AlwaysSummerGarage  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry to hear bro, but appreciate you sharing. Still cool you got to experience a few legendary cars and a Murcielago certainly wouldn't be a bad reintroduction into the culture 👍 Good luck man.

    I have mentally prepared for having feelings I don't expect when I finally lay my hands on a red R32 GTR or bright yellow FD RX7. That feeling of "now what?" After I've finally got the thing I've wanted for so long. I already thankfully have an answer. Mod the shit out of it and track it and enjoy it and rub it in the face of people that doubted me.

      @ yeah my definition of living well is having a 30 year old hunk of metal from the land of the rising sun lol(to be fair I got one of those already but it's slow and shaped like a toaster). But there's other reasons behind it. My dad is a huge rotary guy and he always wanted an FD RX7 so I wanna give him that experience while he's still sharp enough to do so. The r32 is more because I had a super vivid dream I bought one and felt emotions I can't describe and have been chasing that high ever since.

    I have one of the lowest mileage and cleanest R34 GTR's in the country and I still wish I had a 1998 White Supra Turbo 6 speed. That fleeting feeling of the chase being over is a phenomenon called the "Hedonic Adaptation" or "Hedonic Treadmill", you should read about it, it sheds a lot of light on why we feel that way as humans when pursuing something...achieving it... and the elation subsides.

      That's funny, I have a white Supra turbo 6 speed and wish I had an R34 lol. I will definitely look that up, thank you for the suggestion. I'm super fascinated when it comes to things like that; I've had more subdued instances with a few other things in life, but definitely stronger with the car. I'm sure others have felt that also, but nice to see there's an actual phenomenon behind it.

      100% feel you.. I'm nitpicking everything on my Supra, down to the very mildly rusted radiator mounting brackets that I'll be replacing. I kind of hate it, but at the same time kind of love it as I see it as an excuse to work on it and make it mine, even if it's just replacing OEM parts.

Once you get it the question of "now what" is always there. What's that saying? Its not the destination its the journey?

    100K miles on a Supra, or just about any Japanese car is nothing. I had my dream car at one point, a 93 NSX. Bought it with around 70K miles and it was my daily for a few years. I think it got it up to 130K miles before I unfortunately wrecked it. I was still in the Marines at the time in the middle of moving across the country. Had I known they were gonna go up insanely in price, I would have worked to get another sooner than later. Here we are now in 2025 and NSX cost as much as they were new back then or even more. No way can I afford an NSX in this economy. So I'm getting an S2000 next and soon too because those have gone up in price as well.

    • @AlwaysSummerGarage
      @AlwaysSummerGarage  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah I take some solace knowing that they last a long time if cared for. Plus I didn't buy it for a collection; it's going to get driven. And yeah if only we knew then what we know now.. I just read a Hagerty article show the price of Supras up almost 150% since 2018 and NSX prices are proportionately as insane. I feel like the reintroduction probably boosted the prices even more. S2000 is a solid purchase though.. my neighbor has one and it always looks amazing.

    Supra was my dream car since I was 9 years old in 2001, watched them drop from 100k over 2 decades and saved up enough money to buy 3 supras before I even got my license, started seriously looking 2015 and found a single turbo 95 RZ with factory recaros that slipped through my fingers because I was under 25 years old the insurance was over $600 per month
    looked at a couple other stock supras but none compared to the first supra I looked at and then in 2017 the same supra came back up and I bought it and driving it was even better than I imagined the steering feel the v160 you feel closed off in a cockpit all the noises from the turbo and cams and clutch can't take the car without it getting attention now after owning it for 7 years I hardly ever drive it went from being a unicorn that I would see on the road maybe once a year to seeing one every day and idk if I want to put the money into building it up or save that money and sell the supra and buy an evo 5 and a sequential transmission and build a street time attack weapon since supras are really heavy and laggy but I don't want to regret it so I feel stuck with it
