  • In this video I finish the hope chest that I started in Part 1. In this video I build and attach the base, add the top, hinges and finish. Overall it was a fun project that I'm sure will give Hannah many years of great service. Please leave any comments below and I'll respond as soon as possible.

    I love this chest -- and the video -- and would like to make it for my daughter as a wedding gift. Is there somewhere I could get the plans?

    What, no feature ring, Steve? Just kidding. I really enjoyed your presentation. I came away from flat wood working several years ago but maybe its time to do it again. Of course there is a lot of flat wood working in segmenting too!! Happy new Year, Richard

      Ha! No feature ring on this project Richard. I have one more flat wood project to finish then I’ll get the lathe out again. I’m already putting thought into my next segmented turning project. Thanks for watching and commenting on my video. Take care, Steve

    so the entire chest sets on those blocks you attached to the bottom frame? Are you afraid of them failing in the future?

    • @slindsley1951
      @slindsley1951  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The feet are part of the lower frame so, no I'm not afraid that they will fail in the future. Check the video at 7:12 for a view of the lower frame. Thanks for the comment. Take care. Steve

    how long did it take to make?

    • @slindsley1951

      I'm not sure how long it took to make this project. It was five years ago I was only working on it on the weekends. Probably if I worked on it straight it could be completed in 5 days or less. Depends on how many hours/day spent working on it, etc. Sorry I don't have a better answer. Take care, Steve

      @@slindsley1951 that’s great, thanks for the reply. I’m currently on a mission to build a cherry blanket box myself for a friends wedding as a gift. And starting from zero experience and a bit of time constraint, I’ve been trying to gauge a time line between purchase and milling of wood and tool set up ( jointer/planer) to panel glue up and box joints to trim and finish and hinge assembly. What I thought would be a simple gift has turned into quite the undertaking 😆. Your videos have been an excellent reference though and I’ve watched them quite a few times.
