This program fosters equitable access to professional opportunities addressing systemic barriers that often hinder marginalized groups from entering careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). By engaging students in their communities, the program will not only empower them but also brings diverse perspectives and solutions to environmental challenges.
Through this initiative, interns will gain valuable skills, networks, and insights, propelling them through successful careers in environmental fields while simultaneously contributing to their respective communities through research projects.
The first cohort of six interns are college students from vulnerable communities in Imperial, Kern, Tulare, San Joaquin, and Sacramento counties.
