for those that don't know, the norwegian prison system is famous for its efficacy and fairness. only 25% of convicts reoffend within 5 years compared to the averages of 30%-60% in other countries. it has a low crime rate, humane prisons that provide psychological care to its inmates. when a prisoner leaves, becoming a free person, they are helped in finding a job, given housing assistance and insurance, provided counseling.
I keep bringing this up in conversations about the prison system here in Canada. Y'all are doing a fantastic job at helping these people.

on the subject of the signs of killers, I have been told, and don't quote me on this but, I have been told by some people and none of them are people that have anything to do with the law, but they have said to me that the reason people don't look too deep into the torture of animals is because then it would shine a light on people who "enjoy hunting" whether it's hunting for sport or to put food on the table. Personally I think that is a little crazy, but it also made me ask them "What about people who hunt to just kill the animal. Don't take anything from it but the enjoyment of killing the animal? Like those guys that got arrested a month back for tormenting a doe from the back of their four-wheelers?" to which he said "Just boys being stupid." and that is where I think the difference lies. Hunters hunt for a reason whether it's for trophies, a competition or to put food on the table... some people just want to hurt others.

There was another guy who went in after everyone left and is also a suspect, but I can’t remember why it was that he wasn’t convicted - maybe because Sid’s alibi was so flimsy from him initially saying he did it.

There's an example of a mass murderer in Sweden who was let out like 20 years to the date of the crime and it just completely dismayed one of victim's family. Im more than supportive of giving second chances but some crimes just deserve more severe punishments.

Their recidivism rate is also way lower
They use the rehabilitation model and not the vengeance model.
They're very careful in their sentencing.
Thiugh Norway has a limit on the prison term for criminal offence, they, like most nations, have indefinite incarceration for the mentally ill of needed.
So of a person can't be rehabilitated, they're locked up in an asylum.

They don't have a revenge based idea.
When you don't hold vengeance as a priority then you don't feel much slapped in the face when justice is rendered.
Also means recidivism is much lower, prison guards being harmed is lower, prison staff retention is higher.
The systems that use prison as revenge that cause the convicted to go on to be worse or repeat offenders os a greater slap in the face to the victims who where promised it wouldn't happen again by a system that causes more harm itself.

Depends on the circumstances around it and what degree the murder charge is. There’s a big difference between like pre meditated murder in cold blood and people who got murder charges because they accidentally killed someone in a fight or things like that so it’s case by case.

The problem with this mentality, valid as it is, is the word "they." You're asking our law enforcement- basic police force at this level of incident- to rationally and logically monitor this kind of behavior. Even up to FBI operations, US law enforcement is a fucking joke. An oroboros of legally immune psychopaths and murderers, many with little patience, short tempers, low IQs and insurmountable workloads and unrealistic expectations.
This is essentially asking for every responsible farmer and hunter to be imprisoned and/or murdered for suspected future serial killing.
It *shouldn't* be like that. But being realistic about the systems in place is important context to have when calling for action within established societal standards.
Where there is going to be a cause for concern is when domestic animals are killed for no apparent reason, I think you could realistically report that and have that documented.

But actual psychos are usually fantastic at masking and can get away with killing and torturing all sorts of beings and they’ll get off Scott free.
