      @@SayonaraSixString they are amazing guitars and I’ve seen the prices drop because people are getting so desperate to 500 bucks which is not good in case I sell mine of course

    Amazing video! I recently sold my 2003 Epiphone Les Paul Classic and replaced it with a super strat, which I love, but I honestly started missing my LP way more than I thought I would. I was pretty set on getting the Epiphone to fill the void, but saw someone mention the V100AFD as a superior alternative in another youtube video. So I started looking into it and came across this video, which has by far the most comprehensive and detailed look at both guitars, and I'm now 100% set on the V100AFD. Thank you!

    I brought a vintage les paul junior for £119 when they first came out. It sounds amazing. P90 pickup/ double cut in cherry red. I think It sounds better than my cousin's gibson melody maker 2014 He paid just a bit less than £800 for that.

      The Wilkinson P90s are very good. Highly underrated. Not sure why Vintage doesn’t take advantage of them more.

    Here in Brazil, the Epiphone costs an average of $2500, whereas the vintage one costs an average of $730.
    vintage best value for money!

    Great review! FWIW, I have the Slash AFD yellow version. I love the guitar, but the veneer sucks!! It has very fine pin stripe flame with very little depth. Epiphone blew it on this veneer. But, they make up for it with the electronics!! I think the Probucker Customs have better definition than the pups that are in the Vintage. A totally subjective opinion..... The Vintage is not readily found in the Mid Atlantic region of the states. One shop has a "distressed" V-100 but I don't think it's the AFD version. I'll have to give it a play even tho I don't care for fake aging. Vintage blew it with their veneer as well. You're right, it's closer to a Joe Perry Boneyard Burst then a AFD LP.
    The best Epiphone AFD is the one that's hard to find and pricey when/if you find it. I'm talking about the 2010 Epiphone AFD with real Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 Slash zebra pick ups!! It was limited to 3000 guitars world wide. THAT is the one to get. We gave one to our son as a High School graduation present.....It's a kick ass LP. Keep up the great video reviews!!

      Thanks for watching, much appreciated! I agree the AFD they released some years back was the best one. They are tough to find and command a bit of cash when they pop up. I think they went a bit too mass production with recent AFDs. They should have kept them limited. I still think they are solid guitars though - they're built slightly better than the regular Standards I believe.

      @@SayonaraSixString I agree for sure!! It's a solid guitar, well made and it plays nice and sounds good, if not great. The veneer is just so underwhelming. I bought mine used but in excellent shape for $600.00. No way was I going to pay retail for it. I'm happy for the money I spent.

    I think the epiphone pickups sound clearer with perhaps
    better definition but I have to admit I am biased as I have just bought the Slash appetite burst second hand from Andertons. Some TH-cam "influencers" have said that the Slash model is an affordable alternative to the Epi Greeny.

    • @SayonaraSixString
      @SayonaraSixString  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have the Greeny, Lazarus and Slash and all 3 are very close in feel, fit and playability. I am most impressed with the Slash in terms of how much guitar you get for the money. 👍

      @@SayonaraSixString Interesting you say the neck profiles on these models are similar. I have an Epi standard 50 and to me the neck feels much fatter than the Appetite Burst. To me the Slash one is a somewhere between a fat 50s and the slim taper 60s type on the Vintage.

    • @SayonaraSixString
      @SayonaraSixString  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      According to Epiphone’s site, they all have the same neck measurement - 304.8 mm / 12 in. To me they all feel pretty much the same, including the 50s Standard. Perhaps there may be some leeway in the factory?

    I live in the uk what would you recommend between one of the v100 series or the Harley Benton sc450 for about £155 delivered and sc550 for about £259. Are the vintage guitars better quality? Both guitars in the video sounded really good.

    • @SayonaraSixString
      @SayonaraSixString  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Unfortunately I have not played any Harley Bentons. They’re not that common here in the US, but still very popular here with people in-the-know. My estimation is that while Harley Benton makes good guitars, they are still focused on being a budget/affordable brand. Vintage, on the other hand, is directly aiming their sites at Epiphone’s market share so their guitars are more competitive with Epiphone’s offerings. Just my thoughts.

    Hi, can you please tell me whether epiphone slash les paul has 18 or 24 splines pots as per that I can change the knobs

    • @SayonaraSixString
      @SayonaraSixString  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it's 18 since they are metric CTS pots. Im not 100% sure though. My eyes are horrible so I can't really count them. lol.

      @@Trial212I have a 2010 vintage v100 Paradise model. I know for a fact it has a maple top because I replaced the pickups to the slash signature series and 50's wiring. I also have a vintage 2014 tobacco sunburst model and it is solid mahogany . Sounds quite a bit darker as well. So some vintage guitars has a Maple cap and some don't . I talked to a guy who has worked for vintage and the last few years all vintage v100s come with a Maple top as standard for all models. At least that's what he said.

      @@flyhigh6591 Very interesting!! I took a very close look at the top of my PGM. Where the top has been "worn away" I still see figure in the wood that aligns with the worn away flame top. I bet mine has a real maple cap with no veneer!! I'll pull a pup and have a look in the cavity. Thanks for the reply!!
