Thanks for the video sorry I ask several times for this it was well worth the wait I can't wait to see the results keep up the good work and as always Happy Sowing Happy Growing keep safe
thanks for such professionalism. Going through Your flowers you make me desire to plant such gorgeous plants. Now I will need to buy some pelargonium and geranium seeds. Could you help me to find out who carry the best seed available. thanks. I will appreciate your avise. By the way I wish your seeds.
Hello Maria. Unfortunately all pelargoniums that I discuss on the channel are hybrids which means you can only propagate them from cuttings. The seeds from them will not necessarily produce the same plant. Indeed this is how we produce new varieties. So basically seed for pelargoniums cannot be purchased.
How would I choose the parent plants? Do the characteristics of the parents predict the characteristics of the new plant, or is it more random? Are their any characteristics over which the 'male' parent is more influential than the 'female' (or vice versa)?
Really great video. You mention (I think?) that this plant cannot self pollinate? Does that apply to all regals? all pelargoniums? or does it differ in every plant? Thanks in advance.
Thank you for sharing this topic, I am one of those who have requested just this topic. I did get one seed, and are now hoping that one will germinate. But now that I have got a better idea of how to, there might be more seed to come. So a camels hair brush, or any other soft brushes for that matter, is not useful in pelargoniums? When I cross fuchsias I use a Q-tip to aid in the pollination, could that also be used? or is it just the simple way you show just the best there is...
Kenneth Stensrud Hi again Ken, yes it does vary between the different types of pelargonium but Regals are probably one of the easiest due to such an open receptive stigma and masses of pollen. It doesn’t always work of course as the peak time varies a bit but this method should be fairly successful. Of course it is a completely different story for double zonals which I’ll perhaps cover in the future. David
Hi! Thanks for your video. I managed to hand pollinate a few geranium flowers. I have a few questions. Why some of flowers still didn't make the seed pods? Why some seeds pods dropped? (it was windy one day but I'm not sure if it was the reason). For a while I had flowers without pollen, is there a reason?
Hi Julia, the stigma is only ripe for receiving pollen for a day or two usually the day after it fully opens to reveal the 5 points so you need to pollenate at that time. If you don’t seeds will not form. It’s best to do them indoors otherwise you run the risk of cross pollination. You also need to use fresh pollen that has just started to dust. i. e fall. Sometimes you get what are known as ‘ghost pods’ these look like they have formed correctly but do not actually contain seed and will drop off. Hope this helps. David
Hello, I've just managed to get a successful beak to form on a g. pratense x g. macrorrhizum. Any tips on how best to keep an eye on it and determine whether any of the seeds are viable? I'm not aware of anyone making this combination so far, so I'm keen to make the best of it.
Hi Koss, congratulations on your cross. The important thing is to keep the beak dry and ensure it’s indoors, greenhouse etc. After a few weeks the beak will dry out and split and the air stalks will pull the seed pods out from the base of the beak. At this point you can pull them off and carefully split the pod to reveal the seed. I would suggest you sow them straight away for the best success of germination. I will be doing a video on this in the coming weeks as I have a number of beaks forming that I want to harvest. David
Looking forward to seeing the new greenhouse great tip thanks for the update 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

That's right, it applies to all cultivars of pelargoniums that are not species. D

@@thepagsociety fantastic, thank you David
Nice info....Thank you
👍
Can it self cross with itself???
Hi, no it can’t, it has to be pollen from another of the same type. David
I would like to request
Hello, very like your vedios and your plants. Would you be interested in trying out our led grow lights to grow your plants?
