On a run off stream off the Jubilee close to where you are, earlier this year, was birdwatching, on what was a field 10 years ago, 12 newly born ducklings with the mother, a big swirl/splash, as one got taken by a pike, the mother had a flap about, but too late. Also spotted a nice pair of Chub on the stream, about 3 and a half or so. Had spotted barbel there in the past, before the sewage spill across the river.

I had a walk along there last week actually! Spooked what must have been half decent chub, and saw a few dace.

Watching videos like this makes me envious of the amount of quality fresh water rivers and lakes there are West of London, here in Essex we have next to bugger all worth fishing, river wise. If you have easy access then please use it, it's amazing how many people don't want you there.

I'm pretty blessed when it comes to fishing spots, no doubt about that. Essex isn't famed for its rivers, that's for sure. The hike up to the Ouse or the fens is well worth the effort. Depending on your proximity to the m25, getting round to the Lea Valley, or even Thames here shouldn't be too onerous. Another spot to try is Alton Water. Very good roach venue..

Interestingly you didn,t suffer from any other water users. I heard of some very big bream in the jubilee river and went over to have a go for them.I only lasted one night before spitting my dummy out and going home.I went to the area that had been suggested and found a cracking looking spot. I had a constant stream of open water swimmers and paddle boarders which wasn't too much of a hassle but then the canoe club turned up and decided that despite many miles of water they would stop dirrectly in front of me to practice their roll overs and general paddle slapping skills. The buggers even waved to me after ten minutes of this when they left. As you can imagine the stream was coming out of my ears by then and I might have even used a naughty word or two. But to cap it all off behind my swim was a bench which was the only one I had passed on my way up the the swim.Everyone and their dog sat on this bench and discussed their every day problems while their dogs literally ran riot around my bivvy and rods. These people didn't even seem to notice the carnage going on 20 yards in front of them.
Any way that was enough and I buggered off home never to return.

You do have to pick your spots. Not going to lie, I've had steam coming out of my ears on more than one occasion! The big bream are there, you've just got to avoid the areas close to the bridges and areas where people get in and out. If you can go for a walk at dusk, you can usually locate the bream. Obviously, I don't want to go spouting off too much on a public forum, so message me on FB or insta if you fancy another bash at them.

Tried the Jubilee a couple of times. Been an absolute enigma. Aware of fish present but really difficult to get them to feed.

It's usually a bit iffy early on in the year, and you think all the fish are gone, then around august, it comes alive. I can only think there's so much natural food early on, they don't really need to eat bait... Plus, some areas are definitely better than others. It's pretty apparent if you go for an evening walk.

    You changed the pole Tom?
I know last time I'd seen you out with the Airways but that was maybe pre 'Lockdown'
Love the underwater footage I can watch that for long enough ,Awesome insight into their feeding patterns 👍
Look forward to watching many more of your new content and wish you all the best with your new set up to improve the video's for us.

Yeah, several times in fact :/ Wish I'd stuck with the Airity (Had numerous daiwas over the years and never broke or cracked any of them). Just fancied a change and bought a drennan acolyte, which was nice, but brittle and kept cracking in my hand. Then a Sensas 94XL, which was also weak. Wasted a fair bit of money there. Decided to buy carp pole, as I'm obviously too heavy handed for modern competition poles! This Sphere Power Perfection seems up to the job, and is actually surprisingly light and extremely stiff. I never fish over 11m anyway. Just wish they'd make them a bit slimmer, with slightly thicker walls.
