I like to imagine that the Living Statue guy didn't actually get killed, he just wandered into the catacombs where the other bodies were being kept, and was just really committed to his bit. I also like the idea that, after Sargent Angel, the person who the NWA had most trouble capturing was a guy who stood perfectly still for long periods of time.

This is one of my favourite films as its so goofy and at the same time well acted and not cringe. When a film trys both they mostly fail. But to me this film is actually a perfect watch. Franks wife is a warning of what would have happened to Nicholas had he continued down the route he was going. She was a perfectionist in what she did who eventually lost her mind when she couldn’t achieve the results she wanted. We see this from Nicholas who is an overachiever who lives for serving the law and is unable to switch off. We see Nicholas becoming more and more depressed throughout the course of the film when he is unable to solve what is going on in Sanford to the point where he starts to doubt even himself which is the start of him losing his own mind. The core message of this film is about striking the right balance between work and play and what a person can become if they only dedicate their lives to one

You have to look at what bothers and irritates most people and it isn't the kind of crime or incidents the police are geared to tackle in the 21st century.
British police are first and foremost centralised to the Home Office now at a central government level. Your local police force may be called "West Yorkshire Police" or "Sussex Constabulary" or whatever but the reality is their policing priorities and direction comes from Westminster. PCCs are something of a nothing position with no operational control over policing and in my view were a cheap attempt at giving the illusion of community input.
Local villages & towns don't have a say on how they are policed, local community surgeries may be held by the PCSOs or Neighbourhood Team but in reality they won't be prioritising low level nuisance or what I'd describe as "visible street crime" the reality is police are too busy dealing with domestic violence and what is best termed as 'safeguarding' which is a combination of mental health NHS and local authority social service callouts to vulnerable people - detecting and investigating all but the most serious of crime has taken a backseat and has done so for around 20 years or so now.

The best part of this isn't the perfect twist-which is actually fantastic- but the fact that no one is actually evil, but just morally warped in an attempt to make things better for Mrs. Butterman. Skinner might be the exception, but he shares the same views as the others and treats the murders and action as a little bonus more than the main reason.

One of my favorite things about Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead is how rapidly and drastically the moods shift - yet it's always so elegantly done. Usually rapid switches of genres make a movie bad, but in these ones they just make them better.
