I like using revive, dash, and rock, because if you put a revive down, then dash at your enemy, then instantly go into rock you become an invincible missile yourself
about the smoke smoke smoke my friend tried this and its a lot better than you might think. when you try to shoot a beam of any kind it just hit the smoke instead of wherever you're aiming
ive been using the bow dash grapple build recently, you shoot the bow and use the grapple to lock on to the arrow and swing it around to hit someone behind a platform. Its a bit hard to get used to using but its super fun when it works. also, just as a note you cant use the grapple to grab the arrow while your mid air, you will fly towards the arrow and probably die. you can use that as a mobility option if you need more height than the grapple can offer but its pretty hard to time and very risky.
I don't think there's anything wrong with sticking to 1 build for competitive, since the underlying gameplay is so fun and has a lot of depth. However, you do want at least a certain amount of variety between the builds of each players though, so that not everyone is running the same build. Theoretically, a perfectly balanced game would mean more variety, but not necessarily, so let me propose a couple ideas: Idea #1 This is probably the better of my two ideas, and is making a draft format for competitive. Each player takes turns picking their abilities 1 at a time, and once an ability is taken, no one else can pick it. The upside is that you can counterpick, and are forced to adapt your build as options dwindle, and there is no randomness despite the forced variety! Idea #2 Is to give players a random set of abilities to choose from, each player picks at the same time without being able to see what the other players picked, and once everybody picks 1 ability, a new set is presented for your second ability, and so on. The benefit of this system is that you would see even more variety, still get to enjoy mirror matches, and still have some knowledge of what your opponent may have picked. To top it off, the biggest benefit of Idea #2 over #1, is that draft would likely be faster, and less time wasted outside of gameplay is good. The main downside is that randomness may be unenjoyable for some, even if that randomness affects everyone in the same way, as players will have different skills and familiarity with each ability. I suppose this does incentivize being good at all of them, though.

If You placed the platform horizontally on top of the map you can go under it and gust out the opponent. Also it handles almost all abilities except blink and meteor

I think my fav duo combo is: Player 1 - growth ray + double duplicator Player 2 - missile +whatever you like (preferably blink gun + platform moving) In this combo your teamate sets up a platform far away while u grow them bigger, and then they blink the platforms that are in the way and aim a missile, and then you start duplicating the missile which shoots three missiles at top speed for each dup beam (the explosions are also really big) it's also really fun, but it too demands solid aim. (oh jeez i wrote an essay)

Laser BlackHole Teleport. At the start of the match I place a teleport and put the black hole inside. It's a quick way to take a black hole wherever you want during the match. The laser is just a really good weapon that also happens to be able to move black holes around.
Imma be honest, most op combo ive found is literally just triple growth. Most maps you can kill at least 2 players instantly and the 3rd without too much trouble
For me rn, it’s either dash + rock bc it’s super fun, or grenade + grow ray + split ray, where I grow myself with the grow ray, throw a grenade, and split the grenade, sending a barrage of giant grenades at the enemy. It also works with a dif ability, and you just have normal grenade size. It’s super strong regardless. Split gun is super strong with certain things. Rock + dash is solid (pun very much intended), but it only really does it’s best in 1v1s, to use it where there’s more competition, your 3rd slot should be something like bow, grenade, or meteor, to have decent attack power otherwise (meteor also combos with dash, to get to a good spot for the slam).
I really like using dash-gust-gust, before that i used dash-grenade-bow, both are fun combos. I stuck with the gust one, because i can kill people in very weird spots where they think they're safe
mine is rock-blinkray-dash (very original), its best on 2v2 or in 1v1s, so you either kill someone or die, blink ray is for makeing it harder to hide from you
my favorite combo is prolly grenade gust dash, and when i dont wanna play that, i play blink drill and dash. for casuals, i normally do invisible rock and dash (they'll never see it coming!!). as a professional bopl player (top 50), i can very confidently say that if you dont have dash in your combo its probably not that good of a combo.
my first ever created combo was two dashes and rock it worked for so much other combos cause you could hit someone with speed of light if you have good timing.

where are you finding good players, I'm on the official discord and there doesn't seem to be any competitions or anything, and all the random players are useless, I normally get around 8 wins before I lose, even against 3 other players, and can usually keep at least double or triple the wins of all the other players combined. Even the creator of the game seems kind of mid at it, at least from what I've seen of his videos

gust mine random. gust and mine is the core combo, with random making your strat less predictable
It's not my favorite, but dash, invisibility, stomp is very powerful as you suddenly just kill a man.
The game advertised to be intuitive with your combo ironically has no intuition
My go to is grapple thruster shrink, make a small platform, attach them to it, thruster it away
current meta is blink bow dash, but the gust bow dash combo you talked about is still viable
