In this video we're working on our 1948 Ford 8n, rebuilding the hydraulic pump, top lid, and a basic oil change! Getting the old girl ready for work once again!
Just watched the whole video and really enjoyed it. I am headed up to MI to pickup my Dad's old 8N that I used to drive since I was about 7 years old (53 years ago) and bring it back down here to Florida. I'll probably watch this again once I start taking mine apart. Thanks!
Good job on the video. I have a 53 Golden Jubilee that needs some work on the lift. It creeps down and once the hydraulic oil gets hot it`s really slow about lifting also the oil gets foamy so i guess it`s getting air in the system somewhere. Been using it for years like that but it does get aggravating.
Hey thanks for watching bud! Those jubilee tractors are great 👍 sounds like it is definitely sucking air from somewhere though, probably just around the gasket on the top lid. Luckily they're just as simple as the 8n to rebuild though lol
Whole lot of water came out with that fuid...make sure you change that fluid out again quickly to get the remaining water out.. Had me a 48 8n that I painted camo lol. Loved that little tractor.. Just picked up a 57 860 at an estate sale for 500 bucks...gonna be posting a video soon
Ya we're keeping an eye on the fluid for any signs of further water getting in, nothing so far, i think it was getting in the top lid seal. That's a heck of a deal on an 860!
Btw, as a TH-cam warrior, next oil change you’re gonna need a new drain plug. There should be a screen around it. The screen strains the oil pickup tube.
Hello From Kentucky. A few days back, I purchased a 1952 8N Ford with a Woods RM306 finish mower for $1200. The engine starts right up and doesn’t make any bad noises that I can hear although I am not sure about how accurate the oil pressure gauge is. The lift picks up the Woods mower like it’s supposed to, So I think I am okay there. Actually I have watched both of your videos and really appreciate the information should I have to work on my 8.
Sounds like a great purchase, especially with the woods mower! Ya those old oil pressure gauges are a little wonky sometimes lol luckily they're super easy to replace, thanks for watching bud!
Should use a torque wrench on the lift cover bolts.. i seen where people use a impact driver on the bolts, and in the future go to remove and strip/break off every single bolt hole off the casing just to remove the cover..
Yessir we only ran them down with the impact for speed purposes then snugged them up by hand with a wrench, that impact is rated at 600 ft.lbs so that would be a bit much lol didn't torque to a specific amount just snug but everything is holding up and no leaks. Thanks for watching!
Good catch! Lol we're originally from Central Florida but we lived in Northern Maine for 2 years way up in the county! We came back last year to be closer to family, so the studded snow tires are from our time up there, thanks for watching!
I'm glad you don't really like RTV. I hate that crap. I prefer Gasket Cinch. Besides it's period correct. If you buy a can of that, you will see that the artwork matches the attitude in the US in 1948. I'm not a "patina" fan. Those old machines have done an excellent job for 80 years, they deserve the respect to at least bring them back to their original look. I don't mean a restoration, but a preservation. I like this channel for videos on the tractors. www.youtube.com/@DanGingell
Ya there's nothing worse than buying something and finding that the previous owner layered that RTV on the gasket like Hellmann's on a burger🤣 Dan and Rachel Gingell are awesome with these old tractors!
Love the video, get yourself a 4 dollar shifter boot to keep the rain out of your oil. Nice work!
Yessir that's a good idea, thanks for watching!
I can't believe I sit through that whole video, good job man, and whatnot . 👍
🤣 thanks for watching bud!

Nice video...

I just picked up a 1948 ford 8n with a dearborn front loader.
That's a heck of a score with the loader! Thanks for watching bud!

Ya I just realized that a few days ago actually🤣 ordered one up from yesterday's tractors, thanks for watching bud!
Business in the front party in the rear.
🤣🤣 thanks for watching bud!

What’s the torque on them?
@@punctuationgamer636 50lbs for the bolts of 7/16 diameter shank.. not the socket size.
