    When I watched a bunch of videos of this mod on YT before playing it, I had the feeling this would legit be a true successor to SMOD in a way. It'd be fun, enjoyable, and a great way to play through the campaign. But because of all the points you listed in the video (and some gameplay imbalances), the mod just fell short in every aspect. I don't have any personal grudge against the devs. I WANT mods like these to succeed. Hell, I'm even ready to make another video about it and say "hey the mod's awesome now!" ONLY if they actually listen to feedback from the players and fix their mod. I don't see that happening anytime soon though. Especially after seeing those Discord messages at the end. Oh well...

    My friend LIL-PIF was once the weapon animator for this mod.
    He already did saw the red flags that the devs just want to add more things to the game without putting much thought into it.
    And im also pretty sure the creator of this mod had a bad history of making mods, there was one mod made by the same devs called arctic adventure or something.

      Arctic Adventure. Yep, played that on Steam, and it was a very boring and annoying mod. The level design was not very good and the voice acting was also shit in it.

    I’m a friend of the mod developer. And I tried to talk to him about what’s happening around it and Arctic Adventures. I kept saying that most of the content must be reworked completely. Not just “fixed” because they are broken on the foundation level. I asked to focus on core features instead of adding more and more. That he must clearly see what is his mod about… but… it was completely unlucky attempt. I felt a lot of psin watching how these mods die on every step of development. Still remember our conversation during our walk in the park in 2018.
    - We’re adding barnacle weapon to the mod.
    - But why? Can’t you see it’ll useless or will break the game? You’ll have to add barnacle nodes everywhere or, if you make it stick to every surface, it’ll turn into out-of-bounds-gun?
    And he decided to stick to his idea anyway.
    I just don’t know what to do. I can’t reach him on this topic.

      some people are just stubborn.
      they refuse to listen to reason.
      that guy clearly has no business in making mods or games in general.
      there are idea's you have to scrap when making something.
      sometimes you dont have the budget or time to implement something
      and other times it just doesn't fit in what you are making.
      but they just want to throw in whatever their brain comes up with.
      making a huge mess that is just doomed to fail.
      and it definitely did fail.

      Maybe he'll learn from all this feedback that excess is something that is readily apparent in game design, and absolutely difficult to re-balance in someone else's sandbox, and scale down Overcharged into just a "for kicks" fun mod like SMOD.
      You can slap all kinds of shit in your game but knowing if the sandbox works and is entertaining, enriching, and motivating is something you can't assume from throwing in 400 weapons and cut enemies, and testing for yourself.

      A good default setting is one where you shouldn’t have to go into the settings unless it’s technical ones. But that requires play testing and they need to add more enemies in the bloated game

    And this infuriates me.
    To make the excuse that the game is good because after you tweak all 900 settings to your liking you'll like it (which I don't even think is true) is stupid.
    You're basically saying "You don't like our game? Make it yourself. From scratch. Painstakingly. For hours. Then it'll be fun. You can't criticize it."
    I don't need to explain why and how that's complete and utter bullshit. That doesn't make your game good. It makes it bad.
    I also want to add that there's always such a thing as "too much" of something. They didn't seem to realize this when giving the player 900 different small settings, or when they added 90 weapons, or when they added all of the enemies.
    I don't say this just to hate. I say this because it's true, and accepting that and fixing it would help the mod greatly.

      Realistic bullet physics? What for? Even FEAR used raycast/hitscan. Realistic physics don't really add much to the experience, most combat in HL2 is in semi-closed/closed arenas and the largest is never bigger than 15 square meters. Bullet dropoff is not going to matter in HL2.

      Imagine if Valve did the same thing to the base game and then told the players to fuck with the small settings to make it work.
      I feel like they should’ve taken notes from Half Life Opposing Forces when it comes to new weapons and new enemies.

      Well, you technically _can_ add as many good things as you want. But feature bloat is the main obstacle you'll face if you do so, and the _absolute worst_ thing to do in trying to combat that is to rush out your product.
      Good thing the MMod devs never did that...

    Fighting Gonome or Race X enemies in HL2 could've been a cool experience, but spawning them at random locations with their textures looking like they were copied straight out from Goldsrc models doesn't seem like a convincing and fun HL2 situation.

      @@skaynne54 The most fun part that they did it by same exact way, just instead of using SWEN coop model they use a slightly modified and retextured zombie assasin(cut enemy) model. And it still looks better than overcharged one.

    I ditched it at Waterhazard too. Also had early access. Released version was worse.. as was the first update. It suffers the same fate as SMod... great mod and insanely fun looking, but far too buggy to be enjoyable nevermind trying to record anything. Sometimes less is more, especially when it comes to stability

    I feel as if the mod just doesn't have a sense of direction, which is why it feels like a mishmash of weapons, enemies and changes for the sake of change. However, if it was given more time in the oven some of these issues could have definitely been ironed out, but they weren't.

    Yeah I heavily agree with the enemy placement thing. Plus, even if you put them in the right place, you'd need to have some way to introduce the player to what it does instead of just launching them into battle with said enemy. For example: the barnacle is introduced by showing you a crow flying into the tongue and getting eaten. Headcrabs are introduced by a friendly npc shooting one. Then, you see what they do when one latches onto an npc on the other side of a fence, and then you get to see your first zombie. With antlions, you see them attack someone who moves on the sand (poor lazlo) when you first see a fast zombie, you see it hopping roofs with speed, which is a teaching point for when you first find one. I could go on and on, but I feel like this speaks for itself. Don't just toss an enemy in with no type of introduction, because then it just doesn't work too well. Edit: i make source maps sometimes, although I haven't in a while :)

    If the devs don't take criticism to fix most of the issues with this mod, then there's no hope for it. Constructive criticism shouldn't be taken for granted. This mod has potential, but everything you describe in the video ruins the experience of replaying Half-Life 2 with new enemies and weapons.

    This mod is the definition of quantity over quality. They just took vanilla Half-Life 2, threw in a whole bunch of half-assed content (Without having any consideration for the flow of gameplay, balance, polish, or even that the features they threw in actually worked) and called it a day. I'ts a perfect example of feature creep; they took an amazing game and turned it into a tasteless, overcrowded clusterfuck.

    This mod suffers from something which I like to call the “Insanity’s Brutality” fallacy, named after a rather infamous Doom Mod of the same name. You get the feeling that the creator wanted to add a billion new weapons (for some reason, I personally think that HL2 is as close to a perfect weapon selection as possible) but has no clue of pacing or balance, so just tosses them in there willy-nilly. This leads to the player using only a few of the more powerful ones, due to the rest being redundant as they use the exact same ammo, or just randomly using them all for variety.

      Reminds me of Balan's Wonderworld with 80 costumes. Some are more powerful and some are exactly the same. Since all the levels are not designed to accommodate 80 costumes at once, you can break the game by skipping the whole place or couldn't pass the level due to not having a specific costume.
      What makes it worse is the weird-ass HP system or lack of it where the costume you're currently using will disappear when taking damage instead of the old fashioned HP system.

      Here's the thing though: I like wads with sick weapons. I play Russian Overkill all the time. Its a prime example of excess. But even PillowBlaster will recommend you use a megawad with it because it's not meant to be balanced with Vanilla Doom or even many other wads. It's excess and it makes no apology of what it is. Overcharged isnt.

    There's too many mods that have a strange slavish dedication go HL1/the Beta for the reason that they're cool - HL2 wasn't missing an AK, and it wouldn't be enriched with another 4 shotguns. Valve did the right thing by paring down the experience. Maybe, *maybe* greater enemy variety woulda been cool, but these mods so rarely make a convincing case for why we *need* to see the Cremator or the Guard in game, beyond ✨it's cool!✨

      I get what your saying but insurgency sandstorm has a mod called ismc that adds lots of guns(which are either reskins or existing guns or have no use case) and other stuff to the game
      Is the ismc guns cool? Yeah I like it a lot but I would not like it if they added to the base game

    Maybe that's the reason why Water Hazard in release is pretty empty, i mean no enemies in water. Because npcs can't swim, they walk underwater.

      @@nakfoor1846 Well the devs love to add random enemies in random places with little to no thought. So you can’t fault people for being surprised when they didn’t put any enemies in water hazard, plus the beta version would crash when reaching WH (which might be why they didn’t go insane with the enemy placements like they did with the rest of the game).

    I remember deadwater posting a tweet that said. "Source modders need to learn that there's nothing wrong with releasing betas, or even alphas." I feel like if the devs of Overcharged did this it would mean people would keep talking about it so people would still be exited for when it comes out and have not to worry about a release date and also have playtesters as they were making it. If they did maybe just maybe it would have gone better.

      I think they did release a beta… but it would always crash at water hazard.
      Apparently, from those who playtested, the release is *worse* than the beta. Yes, having a beta didn’t even help the mod’s full release better.

      @@Brucewillis235My guess is that they added and/or changed tons of stuff between the beta and release. Which culminated into worse performance and a plethora of stuff that either was buggy, useless, or didn’t even work at all.

    Instead of cramming 500 things into the basegame, start making new levels, and split the weapons between the new levels. Make the Fire Extinguisher have a time to shine, make that Flashbang work on enemies, etc. Watching the random Combine Guard run around Nova Prospekt actually hurt. It's to the point I'm actually going to tear my eyes out after watching how bad this is. Have some levels themed around where these NPCs would've originally appeared, etc, etc.
    It's basically what happens when you ship spawning NPCs in GarrysMod as a Mod for basegame.
    AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T DIRECT PORT GLDSRC or HL:S into HL2, IT LOOKS AWFUL. IN-FACT PORTED CSGO WEAPONS ALSO LOOK AWFUL IN THE REGARD THEY DON'T FIT WITH THE VISUAL AESTHETIC OF HL2.
    Put it back in the oven. Put it back. Needs more time.

    I want a mod that actually thoughts well with everything about this game especially the enemy placements a example is a cremator in the canals with those burnt corpses which would make a lot of sense instead of it being a Hydra placed randomly there.

    This mod feels like something I could have accidentally made in Gmod by downloading 8 conflicting addons and trying to play through Half-Life 2. It's a shame it didn't turn out right, I would have absolutely loved to see more xen enemies in HL2.

      I wouldn't call half life's 2 gameplay "perfect" it's fine but it definitely lacked weapon and enemy variety especially compared to hl1 and opposing force and the ai was stupid and never challenging and made the game really easy even on hard, of course that didn't mean the mod was any good

      @@carlobellic it didn't need a huge abundance but it did need more weapons, almost all weapon just shoot bullets and you use the shotgun and ar exclusively with maybe some cross bow here and there, it also needed more enemies, you're acting like this is doom where weapons are extremely dinstinct with different uses which isn't the case

    for me Overcharged is one of the most disappointing mods of all time, not only because it has stuff every half life fan wanted to have in 2 but because it was one of the mods I've been waiting for since 2018 this is really sad because I was so excited for the game. mod, as I love the mod for making me replay half life 2 to see what's new in this mod, but I won't defend it at all costs for certain reasons it disappointed me a lot, on launch day I had a problem, that every time i tried to start the game it closed, i only noticed a few times that the reason for this was the game's graphical settings, the enemies are ok but the AI ​​i thought it was just bullsquid and houndeye but during i played the whole game i realized that EVERYBODY HAS A BROKEN AI, for me this is a joke because they simply confirm: alien growl, bullsquid, houndeye, metro cop elite, combine guard among other types, you realize they didn't know how to adapt these enemies on maps,
    the game's performance at launch for me was normal the game ran normally but with the arrival of the patch it started to crash very constantly,but the big mistake of this mod was to have stolen other people's models and weapons, even from valve itself, they could have at least asked your permission for them.
    for me overcharged is not a bad mod but it is a disappointing mod, not only because it promised a lot of things like maps, weapons, enemies, but also because they didn't know how to balance that much because the damage of enemies in this mod....... .overchaged is good to install it and only play it once in a lifetime because this mod only played it for 3 or 2 days and I already stopped playing it, well it's just very sad to see how it turned out

      @@Pacman009 well I love the overcharged weapons, but the big problem is the game problems, such as the drop in FPS, lighting, enemy damage, the bug in the game scenes, the problem of the characters dying easily,Ridiculous and senseless enemy locations, broken AI, problems with viewbody, as I said overcharged always or it will be the best mod of half life 2 for me, but the big problem was they promised and created a lot of hype, I hope the patch and the next updates Fix the Game, don't get me wrong I played a lot in the first 3 days, but after the first patch came....., kind of when the second patch comes out I'll play again, because in the state the game is in it demotivated me to play

    I remember making a thread on the devs' Discord server in which I posted my thoughts on the mod. This was around early March, although I cannot remember if it was before or after the patch was released. The only real things that surprised me were that A) the devs left my thread open for a while prior to me leaving the server, and B) one of the other users there actually agreed with what I have to say. Unfortunately, that also prompted someone else to step in and call me ableist slurs just for posting my thoughts on there, although the user who agreed with me called him out on it and told him it was constructive criticism. Wish I could talk to the guy who defended me on that, although he was more concerned with getting the mod patched to a playable state. Shame that it turned out like this, so I hate to see how he's handling the fallout going on in the server and elsewhere.
    Also, believe it or not, but I compared this to a Garry's Mod total conversion called Temporal Assassin, and all I can say is that Overcharged tries so hard to be the next SMOD while TA actually brings something new to the table. I would tell you to check out Temporal Assassin, but the setup process is a bit confusing. Still, worth checking out.

    Think about it like this.
    Base HL2 is like a pizza. Every topping is placed with care and regards towards the pizza as a whole, so they don't ruin the whole thing.
    Overcharged takes this pizza and dumps every foodstuff in the kitchen on it after being blindfolded and spun around 3 times.

    IDK, maybe I had luck on my side but I didn't experience any crashes when I played it. I also relaunched the mod before commenting to see if I could find the lighting errors and broken pathfinding because I don't remember experiencing it, I wasn't able to find any examples including the places you showcased. I do agree that the enemy placement and the amount of weapons the mod has is very poorly thought out, and that the devs themselves aren't the greatest, but overall I would say I had a really good time playing the mod.

      Agreed, I didn't have many crashes playing this mod either. Honestly I thought it was a lot of fun until I got to the museum part where you first fight the striders. That place was so god damn hard I stopped playing and didn't come back.

      That actually begs the question if order of install or certain source games being installed/uninstalled can change its behavior. That's a whole extra issue unto itself that would need looking into. I had many bugs that couldn't be reproduced by a developer because their particular machine was setup in a way that concealed the bug or prevented it from happening. But if you threw it onto 10 random machines, at least 7 of them would be broken.

    This mod is just horrible down to its own core. It is basically "conceptualize a bunch of ideas, implement them into Half-Life 2 and hope that everything works together to make a somewhat decent experience". You can't do this because it won't work, and it's exactly what the developers did. Basically nothing of vanilla Half-Life 2 has been designed with all of these new enemies, weapons and mechanics the developers of Overcharged have implemented in mind, and this has created the mess that Overcharged is.

    I like Half Life 1 and Half Life 2 because it never feels weapon bloated, the enemies weren’t mindlessly placed, and I didn’t need to fuck around with the options to get the “correct” experience.

    Well, i have to say that i like HL Overcharged, but its impossible to not rage when it comes to enemies that you dont have any place to defend yourself, or the trocendous ammount of weapons that was supposed to help with the enemies, but it doesnt change nothing, the placement of enemies is very unbalanced and strange, for example: hydras in the coast or voltigores in places that you dont have any element to take cover and defend yourself (walls, rocks or even cars).
    And not forgeting to mention the damage that the npc does to you, 90% of the times is unbalanced and it doesnt matter in wich dificulty you are playing (hard, normal or even easy), and because of the 10 bilion enemies that have in just one place makes it even more common
    Still, Half Life overcharged will still be kinda interesting (in my opinion)

    About lightning problems - It was done on projected texture technology or however that was called. If walls are too thin they'll get some lightning through them

    This mods reminds me of a problem I know HL2 beta recreation modders will eventually run into. A good amount of weapons in the HL2 beta were cut because there were too many automatic weapons. In HL2 there's just the SMG/MP7 and the AR2, which have different alt-fires and ammo sources which make them unique.
    If you have 10 Assault Rifles/SMGs, people will just use one or two, making the inclusion of the others completely pointless (and taking up ammo spawn spots on the map). Every weapon needs to have a utility, which all of the half life games are good at ensuring (Minus maybe the tripwires in HL1? But even then, you can be creative with them).
    Sometimes less is more.

    I'm pretty sure they ripped the enemies like the houndeyes from Half-Life: Source and just got them a new model, because Half-Life's AI is quite broken in Source like the houndeyes just standing there jumping and barking at the enemy.

      @@notgaben The problem is, the mod doesnt even run on most setting combinations, there's a very slim number of combinations that will *actually* let you load a map witout booting you out of the game, people want to jump right in and have fun, not spend hours tweaking the settings.

    one of the biggest important things in game development no matter of its shape or form or platform is feedback, and criticism, if you cannot take a bit of people nitpicking on your project then imo its gonna turn to be a failure, i learned that with a few personal projects at 2020 and slowly grew more mature and understanding the viewpoint of people, but i genuinely do not have ANY sort of empathy towards people who genuinely think constructive criticism is people complaining!, it just makes my blood boil!!, anything posted online is due to receive criticism and it should be a known fact by now when going into the game development branch of online activities, mistakes are there to learn from, not to repeat them

    This is like what happens when you give a child keys to a candy store. They want everything. This is something 14 year old me would have LOVED back in 04/05. Granted the idea of it on paper sounds really cool, just rip everything from every other HL/Valve related game and put it all under one roof. Unfortunately the implementation and the execution were shit. Like plenty of other people said, too much of a good thing tends to be bad. It's just a shame that the devs are adding more and more content to a broken foundation. Also doesn't help that they seem to be ignoring player feedback.

    I don’t think I noticed many problems with the AI when I played it, the main issue I had was that the enemy placement was way too much. For example in that one street of Uprising 17 where you have to go around the locked gate to open it, on the other side there were enemies in all directions. On the left, right, on the roof above, that I had to constantly peek out and shoot a few shots and then peek back in. I think the only major graphical glitch I remember was this mass of missing textures somewhere on Highway 17 which was fixed in the 1st update. Most of the other problems you listed I agree with

      I think most of the unusual enemy placements are just from the mapadd thing that they pushed so heavily. It seems to just have a list of enemies per map that are just placed randomly on any solid surface. In Route Canal I’ve seen combine soldiers and female assassins just hanging out on roofs of areas out of bounds where it feels a little early to introduce the soldiers

    Half - Life 2 Overcharged was actually meant to be a rip-off of Half - Life 2 MMod. Because in it's early stage of development, it had different weapon animations than the ones you see in the Overcharged you know now. The weapons look close to MMod and were in the style of MMod. But when I tried to play Overcharged myself, I literally had to use cheats and turn on godmode because the game literally spams to much enemies that I don't even know how your supposed to kill so many enemies without Godmode. I died so many times I had to turn on cheats to complete each chapter. And the game wasn't even on Hard mode. I put it on normal and still the game spams so much enemies that I die so many times while trying to get pass them. Even in godmode, I had speedrun some parts because there was to much enemies that I could not kill so I just had no choice but to run pass them and skip them There were so many bugs in my game that sometimes it would crash including the enemies. And also the broken AI is similar to Hunt Down the Freeman because in Overcharged, they are not even fixing the bugs or the AI but adding more to the game to make it have even more bugs, In Hunt Down the Freeman the developers did the exact same thing they didn't even try to fix any bugs or any errors they just added even more bugs to the game without even caring. And they still released it on steam. At least Black Mesa wasn't rushed or even MMod. Or that would be really bad..
    EDIT: I also realized it's actually more like a SMOD ripoff than MMod now.

      Black Mesa took too much time releasing final chapters. They are selling it on steam yet it took so long to finish it. Many people hated devs for long wait and because they kept releasing parts and delaying updates. The result is also controversial. Many people stated that they didn't like xen levels or have many technical problems and bugs, some of them the devs didn't even bother fixing to this day.

    8:48 What's funny about this weapon is that if you change the viewmodel from right to left it completely breaks this weapon as well as scoping on every other weapon. What's weird about the scoping is that some weapons have two types of scopes in which one breaks by flipping viewmodels but the other isn't. There's also the grenade key bind that will cause the game to crash if you pick up any type of grenade after a certain point in the story; somewhere around episode 1 i believe.

    About the displacer cannon, the dev might assume that the player already play opposing force before so maybe they wouldn't need to tell player about that. Also, for the inspection feature, I don't think you would make noises while inspecting a gun in real life

    I have a tone of problems in this mod I will tell you one by one
    1) In the route Kanal the lighting fucks up, and sometimes the texture is broken for some reason.
    2)Enemy placement is something complicated that just ruined the game.
    3) And they just copied the whole SMOD.
    3)The bullet tracers you told in your video are real and still there.
    And the last thing the lags,
    I can't understand one thing about this mod, I have GTX 1660, 16Gb ram, intel core I7, and ROG Zenith II Extreme.
    but it still proceeds the lag in my computer
    that is all the feedback to this mod.

    The crappy decompiling, and as a result terrible lighting and breaking of map features absolutely kills this mod. How did they mess up the AI that bad, it looks like the Combine is playing freeze tag with the aliens instead of hunting Gordon.

    They couldve gone a long way to make the new enemy encounters fun and enjoyable, like editing the maps and making new areas and scenes specifically for the enemies, but instead they lazily created a system to just spawn them automatically, leading to all sorts of weird enemy placement (once in Our Benefactors, a Combine Guard spawned ontop of a gunship.)

      Not to mention all the inconsistensies in enemy and weapon models, for a big mod team they sure seem to hate making their own assets (The Vector looks like something from HDTF, and ironically, I think they took HDTF's beretta model too)
      Like, it cant be that hard to hire someone to make your own weapons and enemy models, I just cant help but cringe when I see a highly detailed Half Life Alyx cremator shooting a low poly Goldsource port.

    For me, the new enemies don't make any sense as to why they are in certain places.
    Like Winged Houndeyes in canals?
    A Combine Guard in a prison shower?
    A Hydra in a small crampet sewer?
    Race X Soldiers in the wasteland?
    With base HL2, the enemies and their locations did make sense!
    Zombies in the small abandon parts of prospekt.
    Metro cops in the canals, on watch.
    Antilions in the city in EP1, from security failing.
    The Combine on the coast, trying to kill any rebels there.

    The developers should care because it's a crime to release something unfinished and if they want money they need to play testing Half Life 2 Overcharged until it is a good mod!

    When I launched OV, I had to wait for about 10 mins while it loaded main menu. Ok, happens. Then I decided to take a look on map coast (3, I think, with bigass crane right after NLO) because all SMOD-like mods have broken triggers in this map on my end. I had to wait for effin 30 mins on first map load and when I spawned, I saw...BROKEN TRIGGERS. Applauses.
    Anyway, I managed to finish OV from d1_trainstation_01 till ep2_outland_12a and I must say, THAT was a challenge.

    it seems like they forgot the AI nodes and instead just programmed the enemy to walk run and shoot

    Overcharged is bad because everything they did was missing just a touch of thing in order to make it actually functional.. like it's basically esmont code with some in mod functionality.. but the free aim doesn't work because they're missing the parameter that would actually allow you to adjust the internal sensitivity but they have the others LOL.. it has a lean function that is about 2 in of lean which is great when in combination with the view model wall awareness LOL.. the iron sight zoom is one of the most hard-coated Ironside zooms that I've ever had the displeasure of being nearby, giving Arctic a run for his money but arctics follows of weird form of logic within arctic's head that apparently can only exist the way it does or something.. this follows no logic and has no actual consistency, all you know is that if you want to aim you're going to be reading serial numbers and zooming in real hardcore.. and I'm pretty sure the only way to actually fix those parameters is to decompile it..
    Like for everything they have in it.. it's always just a little bit not functional in the way that makes it completely unfunctional to have at all.. like I feel like the 2-inch lean system, and 2 in is generous, it's like 2° of pure unadulterated gas lighting.. with an inverse multiplier as it thoroughly maximizes thewe were trying to be cool and get all of this together.. but.. because we're also paranoid whiny want to be gen z modern mod community individuals.. they were freaking out about a guy that left with some of their code which is you know smod code and I have a suspicious feeling that they didn't play test 90% of this.. certainly none of the functions some of which don't actually work in the actual options.. it's like who the hell do you think you are Tim Sweeney?
    The only credit I'm going to give this.. is it had a full list of all the things that I had in my original build back in '06 when it was killed when episode 1 came out in the first update.. and as a result, I ended up going down to Gary's mod rabbit hole and haven't stopped and probably can't play other games anymore because nothing feels quite as good as utterly OCD perfection on every aspect.. it's not there yet but every aspect is getting attention LOL especially given that the realization that I might release it has shown up.. which now the OCD is in its well I don't want to say it's final form but it's definitely in a higher form LOL.. especially since I spent the last 13 hours a free time I had yesterday spamming automatic fire through a 3D scope trying to get it to provide a coherent image which it never would have and doesn't in real life LOL.. but I want the scope and I know people are going to want to shoot full auto in it.. it can be done, I just don't know programming like at all in my head doesn't seem to absorb it..
    Overcharge could have been really cool.. but I think some of the things that are at its core are just fundamentally juxtaposed to the general mindset of the developers from what I've gathered anyways.. I mean shit if you go on the guy who they said stole the code thing where I guess borrowing LOL I'm probably did like five things too that weren't basic parameter changes or 2013 compatibility.. like if you go to any of his videos you get this like inevitable too bad you stole it comment for three or four people.. and honestly what he's got going on I don't know if it's ever going to come out but it's hell of a lot better in terms of the min max and general actual human wanted to play test this and actually made it work feel of things nothing in overcharge feels in any way right.. and the only actual advantage you would have is if you actually were happy with the original Half-Life 2 gameplay in which case anything is an upgrade at this point.
    My God though hard coated fov like are you fucking with me? Forced Ironside fov LOL like that zooms in so far you could like actually see bacteria on it much less read the serial number and this is a pistol for heaven's sake.. and you can't actually even get rid of the overall zoom as it's harder to the function like this is this is not a long range shooter LOL it's kind of a movement shooter you think you want to tone that down or at least not to like a full sniper zoom just for the iron sights.. but yeah there's a thousand configuration options or like 200 something.. but it's missing the key ones that would actually make most of them actually functional.. and the fact that wasn't even listed in a console command or something in the scripts and it's actually baked into the dll like I know that you're super proud of this and you've talked up a whole game but how did that work in your head? And you know what maybe that's just me being jealous because I wish I was that easily satisfied with myself but you know it's also incredibly shade directed disappointment, especially given months later they didn't correct any of this.. like the rest at the door easy fixes that you just have to pull from the command list that you would have I wouldn't unless it decompiled it.. bam and an inner free aim sensitivity option just like the original s mod that you stole the code from using your term for iterative building.. which is half the problem with the money community in the first place if you're already talking about stealing.. everybody's a thief right now LOL we're all stealing from John carmack and there's a long chain of custody that ends up in source.. and CarMax actually apparently totally cool with it but, Carmike is genuinely cool for like an actual alien.. and we are blessed to have the gifts he brings us everyone's awhile and a various different industry each decade.
    As a tiny Scottish beauty School founder once said at a graduation speech... Have some pride.. or maybe in this case maybe have a little less and have some you know realistic clarity.. God every time I see this thing come up it's just it's more irritating of what it could have been then what it ended up and the juxtaposition that it was so close like 90 to 95%, and some of that wouldn't even scale because if you fixed one you get a whole 2%.. God forbid you play test but then they might steal your code LOL except it's been released now so yeah go back to your hole tiny devs.. and the only reason I say that with the hint of meanness that it implies.. cuz you guys aren't like actually cool about anything or seem to comprehend any sort of criticism and it wasn't phrase like this originally..
    Only solution I got if none of this makes sense if any of the devs are reading this.. which they probably are not but might be.. y'all need some sort of psychedelic drugs in your life.. because you kind of probably need to change who you are as a person if you're trying to make things work and obviously there's a framework there that knows things it's just there's some broken connections or something like that to the human or objective reality side that would allow you to act on it and thus far as far as I can tell either traumatic events or psychedelic drugs are the only way to actually regrow neurons.. like obviously find a wizard and be safe and safety first teamwork etc.. like you know definitely find a wizard you're going to need a guide saying something you just pop on your own but definitely something I would look into cuz getting in a car accident can go to the complete opposite direction in terms of helping.. and that would be your other alternative or you know some other traumatic event.. thus far the research community says psychedelics are better.

    For the poor placement of enemies the only excuse i could think of the fact that any territory outside of combine cities is full of xen infestation, but because there is tons of it some of the xen creatures might have goten inside the city, weird that the civil protection did not hunt them down, still the placement could be in some better spots honestly, not sure why alien grunts are in nova prospekt tho that weirded me out. Now for the hopper weapon, in my opinion its actually nice to carry one or two hoppers around, not every level allows you to combat enemies while there are hoppers laying around, so carrying a few would help a lot, if anything its like carrying a claymore you can set up traps and all that shit. For sure tho ai needs fixing and ai pathing needs fixing. Not sure about discplacer cannon, if i saw it teleporting me to a location i never seen before i would soon catch up to whats going, if anything thats the player's fault for being oblivious and not understanding, if there is one thing half life has taught me is to always BUT ALWAYS look into the smallest of details you never know what you might find. It is sad to see half life mods failing, i do hope that the devs of the mod manage to rebuild it.

    I really wish they'd have gone for quality over quantity, because a lot of these features don't even do anything for me. Sure, it's nice to have the beta weapons and classic OpFor weapons, but why the random non-HL related weapons? "Yay, at last I can use this random assault rifle in HL2"? Also, fire extinguisher (a beta weapon) could've been a good addition if they actually changed some maps to actually make it useful. Add some fires in Nova Prospekt where you can use the fire extinguisher to put them out.

    It’s not bad, it’s so good that VALVe just couldn’t make episode 3 because of how good this mod is! It’s so good that it cured my depression, drug addiction, schizophrenia, and fixed my hairline!

    This mod is basically a collection of ideas thrown into the game with care or thought. Clearly a lot of work went into stuff like the models and animations but it's essenchally a collection of mods from Garry's mod slapped into the campaign of hl2.

    from this video i think the mod feels like you just hanging out on gmod and throwing what ever the random shit you have install and watching them fight on the random map you pick, and sometime you have to pull out one of the gun mod you install cuz it looks cool to shoot them.

    The main problem isn't that there are too many enemies or weapons by itself. The root of the problem is that these modders are clueless fucks when it comes to place things where it makes sense or where it will not break the intended pace in vanilla. For example: In vanilla Half Life 2 you encounter Antlion in sandy areas and cave-like areas because those are the places they inhabit. headcrabs are in secluded places waiting for an ambush or everywhere because a pod crashed nearby.
    Also of course the AI is broken for all these new enemies, they were not intended to exist in this game and therefore would need extra careful tweaking and programming to make them behave competently, but these modders are a bunch of idiots it seems as their solution for all these problems is "i'll cover my my eyes with my hands and pretend nothing bad is going on".
    These people deserve nothing except to be laughed at.

    I don't think the mod is that bad, infact it's honestly pretty good and i liked it.
    Sometimes i feel like people are just exaggerating about how much they dislike Overcharged, saying that it's the worst mod of all time.

      It's definitely not the worst mod of all time by any means, but personally its definitely disappointing.
      I had fun playing the first few chapters, but at some point I just think it's lost its fun, its cohesion, its anything really. I couldn't focus on the powers the game gives, I couldn't focus on the new implied lore, I couldn't feel "excitement" when seeing new enemies, theres not much for me to focus on to "make the game fun again". Personally at some point It almost become a bunch of noise and amusement.
