Bought a rowing machine, jumped on and flailed away. Did it for a week and felt worse than before I got on. My technique was garbage. Found your videos and have been rowing with you. Videos are easy to follow, informative, and corrected my technique. With some humor tossed in there as well.
I am I was 6’5”, I am now 6,4”, had a disc removed between L4-L5. Wife wanted rower, we got the concept 2. My wife sent me your video because of your height. I am glad I watched before I started rowing, taught me how to do it the right way. I have been using this video for weeks, lost weight, feel good and my obliques and lower back muscles have the good soreness. This is the machine if you are older which I am ,it will strengthen muscles in the twitch areas and get you feeling more balanced, it has for me. Thanks for the video, this has helped a lot and changed my way of exercising. Please watch the Video so you can get the proper results and not hurt yourself then sell your machine cheaply. The correct form is huge and you will get great results.
Thanks Austin - you're my favourite person to row along with. You talk enough, but not too much, and always seem to give the right motivational comment exactly when I'm starting to flag.
Excellent videos! I've been rowing along with you for some time now, and after a few months of your very thorough and expert training I thought I could do it on my own while watching TV. Big mistake. I did a week of daily too-strong push-swing-pull, with the rower set at the highest tension, and ended up with trochanteric bursitis in my right leg and knee bursitis in both knees. I am a 76-year-old female who thinks she's still 40, and have a hard time realizing I have limits!! Once I recover, I'm going to rejoin the Austin circuit and stay there!! You will keep me strong and safe! Thank you!!
Thank you so much for this. My right shoulder hurt after 5 minutes. I may be doing it wrong however I broke it into intervals of 5 to finish! Great workout
Thanks so much, Austin! This is my new go-to video when I reccomend rowing to people. I love the inclusion of set-up, warm-up, and cool-down portions in the video! P.S. I had to deal with the DMV today and this intensity was just what I needed to de-stress and enjoy the rest of my evening
Cheers Austin, love your videos and chat with a senior of humour. Theur are so many different TH-camrs showibg you different eays of training on rowing machines but yours were udeal for me. Showed me proper technique, pisture, etc. Keep up the goid work👍👍
Love this workout! I've been rowing for quite sometime and, of course, doing it all wrong! Thanks for the step by step, and a quick, but thorough workout! But most of all - love your cow-cat peeking out from behind the blinds! ;-)
Quick question im watching the Olympics and they are hitting about 35-36 Strokes per min. How? Even at close to 29 S/M I feel my form slip and cant get full extension. Their pace seems insane similar to a past training you did I feel like I can hit a faster pace per 500 with a slower rep rate. Mind blowing though my guess was 28 s/m but 36 is insanely fast i cant even keep up with bad form lol.
If your watching Olympics, your presumably watching them in boats, which is easier to get higher stroke rate than indoor rower. The bigger and faster the boat, ie an 8, the higher they can stroke.
Hey Austin- 6’10” sub here. You should see if Freak Athlete will send you Nordic Hyper unit to test!! They say they work for up to a 7’ tall user but with all the videos I see it seems like even shorter people struggle with certain exercises. So annoying shopping for home equipment when alot of it isnt made for us (sometimes even the ones marketed for our height). Thats a playlist id watch every video of.
Hi Austin, I'm a beginner when it comes to rowing. I have the same machine as yours, a concept 2. I know the basics from your videos on how to row. My question is, if I'm trying to lose weight, how many meters should I do in a 30 minute workout? Thank you. 😊
I’m on day 3 of my new concept 2 and also day 3 of this workout. I’m a little ocd so not hitting my strokes per minute is driving me crazy! My question is, as a 59 year old woman who desperately wants to lose weight, is being 1 or 2 strokes slow or fast going to affect my weight loss results? I realize it’s going to take practice to hit them perfect but until then I’m hoping for optimal weight loss results.
@@trainingtallthank you! My nutrition is really good so I hope you don’t mean the rowing won’t make a weight loss difference. Menopause has done a number on me and I’ve realized I’m not going to lose weight with diet alone, hence the reason I bought a concept 2!
So, you do drop the hands as you extend the arms, rather than straight out, straight back. This makes sense, as it imitates lifting the oars out of the water. Is this still better for dry-land training?

Very sweet of you, Jen! Thanks so much!! Glad you enjoy my workouts :)
Totally agree😊

You’re awesome!! I’m proud of you for trying to do it all on your own though! I’m sure you’re an EXCELLENT rower, but yes, guidance always helps!! :)
Thank you @user-nv4mj5rb4n. I'll try that!
Thanks for the new workout Austin! Seems to incorporate and update some of your older videos. Love your coaching. It makes the time fly by!
Thanks so so much!
I just got my concept 2 rower yesterday and so glad I found you because I’m overwhelmed with it all! Just wish I had an in person trainer like you!
This is a GREAT, clear, easy to follow basic technique video.
Thank you !
Thanks so much for checking it out!
Thank you so much for this. My right shoulder hurt after 5 minutes. I may be doing it wrong however I broke it into intervals of 5 to finish! Great workout
Try to really relax your shoulders down throughout the stroke! RELAX that upper body!

New to rowing a couple of months in and I find it's a great workout, this video is probably the best I have come across so far.

Really enjoyed this as a beginner to rowing. Definitely felt my form decline as the workout went on. Can't wait to see how that transforms!
Way to bring it man!!
Just getting started with proper rowing. Loved it. Great workout ❤ thanks!
Amazing! And thank you for your generosity!
10/10 thank you, great ride along will be doing this once a week.
Amazing!! Glad you liked it!!
Ooooh welcome back always we need that time to time 🎉
No problem!!

Haha you noticed Frodo ;) he’s so cute isn’t he?? Thanks for rowing along with me today!!
@@trainingtall I did! Super cute and great name ;-)

Woohoo!!

Thanks for rowing with me!
God, I enjoy seeing you row!! 🚣🏻
Aw thanks!! I'm going to be posting A LOT more rowing stuff!!!!!

Won’t affect it at all! Most of your weight loss will come from nutrition and not being slightly “off” with these routines!
@@trainingtallthank you! My nutrition is really good so I hope you don’t mean the rowing won’t make a weight loss difference. Menopause has done a number on me and I’ve realized I’m not going to lose weight with diet alone, hence the reason I bought a concept 2!
I heard that this machine is the best cardio device for burning fat, Does exercising in a video burn fat?
Haha try following along on a rower ;)
God I love your videos
Oh no...now I have to practice this.
I think you’ll like it!
I learn one routine, get pretty good. Then SURPRISE!!!! New routine to learn😐. I can do this, I can do this 😊
Bro, when you come to New Zealand, hit me up :)
Will do thanks Ben!!!
I bought a Concept 2 rower and am following your videos but I can’t get higher than 17 SPM. HELP!
So, you do drop the hands as you extend the arms, rather than straight out, straight back. This makes sense, as it imitates lifting the oars out of the water. Is this still better for dry-land training?
Yes! But it’s less to imitate the stroke of water rowing and more to keep you relaxed in your arms and shoulders so your LEGS can do most of the work!
@@trainingtall Thank you for this, as the relaxation aspect, brief though it may be, makes a lot of sense.
😂😂 ROWBOT!!
