9:26 There is a way to grind the same enemies over & over nonstop tho (but gets boring quick)
    HOW?
-you defeat some enemies, go back to the world map, set up camp, rest, and now u go back and all enemies wil be back.
But as i said, it gets boring quick because u get little xp/gold

Honestly, I'm okay with there being no grind - the older I get the less inclined I am to grind. I do wish there was more involved side questing. Then again again, having just come off 90 hours of Reverie, the thought of a less involved game is actually really appealing.

10:40 I strongly disagree with this.
I do not think games should promote grinding in any capacity because it messes with the balancing and takes away from the intended experience of the game, and it allows the player to forcefully remove the strategy aspect of turn based RPGs. Turn based is meant to be slow, but methodical, so if you remove the methodical, then it's just slow and insanely boring. I also just can't see what is so appealing about grinding, as it is nothing more than artificial satisfaction after mindlessly running around killing braindead enemies for a prolonged period of time until you get to that point where nothing the game throws at you can even touch you anymore. Using the tools at your disposal is infinitely better than facerolling enemies after "coming back later."

      @PomuLeafEveryday ปีที่แล้ว +2

@theparadoxrejected Yeah, but it's more so than any because of how scripted the battles are. It's forced progression. You don't become stronger because you decided to go through a hidden area, or a side quest. Chrono Trigger, the main inspiration for this game, was pretty open ended, lots of side content which changes up the ending you get, heck you can challenge the final boss at any part of the adventure and when you do also changes the ending. Also playing different parts of the story with different party members changes dialogue considerably. It's a feeling of your choices matter than seems to be lacking in Sea of Stars. It's a one size fits all.

    • @diogenesdacynic8656

In Sea of Stars, I had 1 death, but I am a seasoned RPG vet at this point so the fact that it killed me at all goes to show how much more difficult this game is than the SNES JRPGs. People forget that Squaresoft intentionally dumbed down those games back then because they thought western players were too dumb to get it.

    After 60 hrs and a 100% completion, I would say 8.25 - 8.5.
Good game that feels like it's never moving quite at the pace I wanted. Traveling is fun at first, then a bit tedious until a late game skill is aquired. Similarly, combat is way more exciting at first but they didn't really do much with evolving it over the 30 hour story. I dont know if it was the translation or if the writing simply wasnt totally my thing but about half way though my first run I started getting annoyed with all the conversations as they felt like they dragged and offered little to the plot or character groth outside of cuteness of repeated characterisms. Definitely want to try messenger now, hopefully I get a bit more out of the gorgeous world and plot in the next game.

    • @logiclunacy606

I mean personally I found the pacing was only off at the start, the combat was too simple and the dungeon design didn't get interesting for a while. While your individual characters don't evolve mechanically that much over time, you get new characters that have different abilities to help out with that, you also get new combos which can help out tremendously in boss fights which chains to ultimates. I didn't use any of the crutch systems they had so there were definitely fights I had to put quite a bit of thought into. Also the lock system was pretty much optional for me until the 3 bird fight where I had to meta my character swaps and abilities to get primarily stop the middle bird from doing the move that brings all of your party to 1 hp because quite often he would do that and the right bird would instantly throw bombs killing my entire party.

I keep hearing these reviewers talk about the "shallow" combat system being the games weak point. I couldn't disagree more. The combat is easily one of the best aspects of this game! It's fun and engaging.
You have to actually think about what moves you are going to use before executing them and you can easily get a game over with one simple mistake in combat.
I guess I'm just different when it comes to the enjoyment of every single battle I get into. I don't mind seeing a game over screen if I botched my strategy, which could and has ended my entire party.

Thanks for not overpraising this game dude. It's animated and looks amazing, the story is great, & the gameplay is solid. But the MCs are kinda flat and the rpg mechanics are pretty shallow. GameXplain gave this a "Mind Blown" rating.

8.5 out of 10? Did you read the same story as me? The three main characters are all basically the same person. There is almost no conflict throughout the first half of the game. New characters are introduced via exposition instead of organically with interesting situations.

Thanks! Solid review - looking forward to picking it up tomorrow. I hear you on the difficulty stuff - too many new devs are afraid of "taking it there" and alienating the casual gamer; sad that "old gamers" like us have to deal with shallower mechanics and diluted narratives in the name of profit. Not a complaint, and I've been following Sabotage's work on this since day 1, but would be nice to see RPGs go back to challenging players, sometimes unfairly, to think outside the box, grind, etc, to make it through. Success tastes better when you strive for it.

I’m confused- so you do get more magic later into the game? You said you only get a couple of magic attacks per character, but then you also say there is some magic later on in the game after the 5hr mark. 5hrs into a game to unlock new magic doesn’t sound that bad to me, if that is indeed the case.
