Who makes a GAME documentary in 24 fps when all games basically runs at 30 or 60 fps. Man the motion of the camera pans and game play look like a stutter fest. Source material looks to be of higher frame rate but butchered into the 24 fps format. Sorry to say this looks REALLY BAD and gives me a head ache to look at!!!

@@adamantii This video is in 24 fps. But game and probably on location shooting looks to be 60 and 30 fps. When you cram those higher frame rates into a lower frame rate container at 24 fps you get a lot of skipped frames and thus a very jerky motion when the camera is panning in-game or just any kind of motion looks stuttery.

Recently finished 100%-ing _Sea of Stars_ and I can say that Sabotage did a fantastic job.
Perhaps the best part of the whole experience was that they told a story that was well worth experiencing by playing the game all the way through. There were so many moments where the events that were unfolding just had me gripped. Very well done and I'm eager to see where the story of The Messenger/Sea if Stars universe goes to next.

Man, this got me even more excited. Just to out myself as a total nerd hearing Boulanger talk reminds me a lot of how Dan Harmon talks about TV. He's talking about his personal connection to video games, what he loves about them and how he wants to take that love and connection and make something he himself has always wanted to see.
It's so cool to see someone use their success to do something new. It shows they love what they are doing with this game, it's not just a cash grab like most career game devs are forced into for so many reasons. And there aren't horror stories of crunch that have come out making it a total feel good story.

This game is an absolute 10/10. One of the best games I have ever played and the best RPG game I have ever played. It completely removed the annoying elements of RPGs (grinding and random encounters) and the story was absolutely incredible. Without spoiling anything, I will say this game evoked more emotion in me than any other game I have ever played. The people on the team seem great as well, so I am happy they are having great success with the game.

I hope this turns into a franchise. You are onto something here. Your very own "Final fantasy". :)
I will also make a note that i am usually not one to buy indie games. They are often just sub par products trying to cash in on nostalgia. But, that is not this game. Yes, it has inspiration from Chrono Trigger clearly, but it delivers something new and high quality. It's own world with it's own mythos. You can see all the attention to detail and love that went into this game while playing it. Little details like insects flying around village street lights. It is full of these gorgeous details that are not needed to make the game but make it greater. This is a series right here if you wish to continue it.

One thing i love the most is the environment and lighting, how characters and their shadow interact together. Even after 25 hours in game. I am still amazed by the graphics. The pixel art dude looks super cool and tough, a nice contrast to his vivid and detailed art style. I am also impressed by the sound and music. I am not sensitive to sound, nor a OST fan expecting for retro experience. Yet the jungle scenes with “dong dong dong” sounds really strike me. It fits well, doesn’t feel like another “retro” style, which really stand out on its own in my play-through experience. Last, i want to thanks to the writers. The story isn’t ambitious like most JRPG trying to be, and this is good in my opinion. All the characters are sweet and lovable. The realistic human reaction, the address of mental health making the story more fitting to modern players. The best of Sea of Stars is that the game is fully polished, it simplified a lot of JRPG mechanics so you don’t feel stuck easily, enable you to focus more on the art, music, and story. Making the game a nice stress-relief RPG to site down and enjoy after a hardworking day. I played the game from PS+, wouldn’t have played it if not for the subscription since i am scared by complicated JRPG. Would love to collect the game one day. I hope the developer team can see my comments, be proud with their achievements, continue to do things their love. Can you please consider releasing that mini slot machine game into a independent game? I see a lot of potential of that game to be a Steam Deck / Mobile game. It just need more content, a little bit more complexity in gameplay, and possibly a story or something to tight everything together so it is a solid game experience.

The whole comment about publishers going on to reach out to them to help with Sea of Stars and how they wanted to self publish was the right call. Not to say having a publisher is bad, it's about having the right publisher and there are so many out there that want to sign onto a game that looks great, but then being under their umbrella means that you are also obligated to their expectations and deadlines and that can hurt Devs by rushing the games and making them work extra to meet those deadlines which then can start making Devs cut corners to get the game out. They made the right call to self publish and work on the game how they wanted it and they nailed it. Love the game, Keep it up!

The games that got me into “cinematic storytelling” were Ninja Gaiden and Astyanax, then I started playing RPGs during the SNES-era namely with Lufia, Final Fantasy 3/6 and Chrono Trigger, which became and remains my favorite game of all time. Needless to say, Sabotage Studio already hooked me with The Messenger but following up with Sea of Stars catapulted them to my favorite Indie Studio by far!
Like Thierry was saying, we’ve been missing a retro game that combines some of the best aspects into one game - I remember how amazed I was not going into a separate battle screen when I first played Chrono Trigger, and wondered why so very few turn-based RPGs didn’t implement timing-input into the mechanics like Super Mario RPG and Beyond the Beyond (a la, pushing the button just as an attack hits - I know Legend of Dragoon and Lost Odyssey does this, but it just doesn’t feel the same with the reticle overlay). Having played the alpha and official demo, I know Sea of Stars already nailed this.
I’m sure the story will be great, but even if it wasn’t, I already know the art direction is fantastic, the gameplay is solid and the music is phenomenal, and those factors are more than enough to elevate it onto the shelves of classics, so that’s not even a worry (although I still hope the story is great because that’s honestly the #1 thing I look for in a game lol). Sorry for the long post, but this game is one of my most anticipated games of the year!
Here’s to a successful launch! And if the next game turns out to be a 3D action RPG platformer that swaps between 2D side-scroller and 3D overhead (like Brave Fencer Musashi) with some sort of Metal Gear influence, I’ll freaking lose it! Backed on Backerkit up to the hilt - physical, digital, supporter package. I cannot express how fucking excited I am for this game. It's everything I've ever wanted in a video game. It's the first game I've seen or played (via the demo) that's really taken me back to my childhood and how I felt about Golden Sun 1+2 on my GBA.

The Mitsuda section really had me in tears. To have the collaboration of one of the most legendary composers and the guy that layed the groundwork for the major inspiration for Sea of Stars, it's like being in a Rock band inspired by the 70s and having Jimmy Page or David Gilmour do a few guests for your album. Also, Thierry asking what he saw in the game to make him say yes and be a part of it. I think he saw what we all did: One of the most brilliantly crafted love letters to one of the most passionate made games of all time.

This is a fantastic documentary, and the game is phenomenal. I literally stopped playing Baldur's gate 3 so that I could play Sea of Stars, and it hasn't disappointed. Of course I will be going back to finish BG3 but it was worth sitting down for 30 hours to beat Sea of stars, especially on my steam deck.
As an aside, It's a real shame that sabotage made this game in unity. I love their games, and I hope they don't end up having to pay for the fact that this game is a unity game. The messenger also is a unity game and honestly the stuff that the unity team is doing is just so despicable.

If the devs can read this, I hope this game does well.
I have predownloaded and have been looking forward to this game since 2020.
    I don't do kickstarters after being burned by some;
(Looking at you 'No Mans Sky')
The demo you released went an exeptionally long way; it sold me 100%.
Older JRPGs are my favorite style of game and that demo hit all the marks, the reason I played the demo was the artstyle- it was magnificent.
The score is also pretty impressive!
So needless to say I'm 100% sure I will love this game.
If this game is as impactful as I think it will be, I'll be picking up messenger to play finally, and for support.
Please, stay true to your inspirations! 🎉

However, I personally have 30 hours in the game and I'm still enjoying it and I definitely want to give 100%. What I really like, and I have the impression that I have never seen it in any other turn-based (j)rpg game, is the battle system where the game tries to involve you as a player in the battle itself through those perfect blocks or double damage when pressed correctly buttons. I feel like it brings something new to the turn based genre. Also, I would like to highlight things that I like are fishing, cooking, telling stories by the fire while resting, soundtrack, beautiful modern pixel art graphics, length of the game, a lot of locations, funny moments, also pictures of food / food I love when cooking in the game and there are also those pixel pictures of food. When a person cooks, they also see a video sequence of how the food is being prepared. Fish images, number of skills, number of combs, relic variations, attribute upgrades at each level, characters, world, and I'm sure I forgot about other aspects of the game. Personally, if the game is nominated for the game awards indie goty, I will definitely vote for it. I recently finished the game and I'm only 4 achievements short of 100%. I want Sea of Stars 2.

That former employer needs to take all of the fucking seats possible. I'm glad they weren't involved in any way with his idea for The Messenger because what it ended up being, slaps in every conceivable way. But what a shitty thing to say to someone with aspirations to create something so wonderful. The Messenger is one of the best games I have ever played. Sea of Stars is also one of the best games I have ever played. Nothing but bangers from that studio and I hope they keep making modernized classics. Sabotage is my favourite studio, without question. Even though I am not affiliated with them in any way, they make me proud to be Canadian.
Thank-you, Sabotage. Your games have made me laugh, cry, feel total awe or comfort, and every other emotion on the spectrum. You have provided peak gaming moments in my life. Forever indebted to you.

I bought this game on a wimb. Never heard of Sabatoge, never played The Messenger, just really liked the art style and heard a few clips of the music and I decided to give it a try, I'm about 10 hours in and I can honestly say that this is the best game I've played in years. It hits all the nostalgic points and then some. I love everything about this game so far. And after watching this video and seeing the passion the members of this studio having the passion for making great retro inspired games, they have gain a fan. After I finish Sea of Stars I'm going to be purchasing The Messenger and I look forward to any new projects that come from this studio.
