Love what you’re saying here, the labels such as soy free, organic, etc can be confusing to consumers and often take away from the core of the issue. Maximizing forage diversity, moving rotationally and caring for the animals in a way they can express natural habits in a low stress environment are more important than labels. And also managing animals in a way that actually improves the soils and ecosystem of the farm! Thanks for going into detail and citing your sources. This is definitely one of my go to sources for pastured pork information. Keep up the fantastic work Rob, thanks for helping all of us who want to learn more.
My family farm in Connecticut is planning to integrate silvo-pasture-raised pork because of your channel! Thank you for helping us learn and prepare for our incoming piggies
I really don't know why I watch your videos. I live in a city, own half dead plant, no pet (👏) and have no desire to be a farmer, not even want to be one in my next life, yet i watch your videos regularly 🤔 Must be the pigs 😂
Also a fantastic resource you’ve likely already heard of is Dr. Stephan van Vliet. A lot of his work is centered around beef nutrient density and i’m not sure if his lab does research on pigs. But they’ve shown some good data indicating that greater forage diversity correlates to higher phytonutrient density in beef and lamb. I would think the same would go for pigs! Very interesting that his lab takes the approach of studying everything from soil health to forage health to human health in a systems based approach
Well, if you're going to make a video like this, you ought to learn some about nutrition and metabolic health. Not all unsaturated fats are created equal, and unsaturated fats are more unstable than saturated fats. So there's a bit to unpack. But the main thing is don't feed corn and soybean grain products to the pigs. Pigs are monogasyric and have no way to convert unhealthy fats into healthy fats. This should be the number one reason to raise pugs on pasture. (Same is true of chickens.) Good channel, keep up the good work.
Thanks for the feedback! Im familiar with the basics, but a video like this is not the place to delve into the mechanics of metabolic processes. Frankly I went into more detail than most people care about in this one. I’m not sure how familiar you are with swine feeds, but a standard corn/soy ration has little fat in it, often less than the peanut based feeds available (for soy free feeds). The issues far more complex than most people care, but the primary point is replacing as Much of any kind of grain ration with diverse Forages.
This is so odd. The video starts in English (with your voice) and then at 0:11 it switches to the Italian audiotrack for the rest of the video. I tried switching it back in the settings, restarted the video, tried to change it again, but no luck. It keeps playing Italian. Which is doubly weird, as I'm not even in Italy. TH-cam must be drunk 🫣
I'm a city boy from Detroit. Never even seen a pig but this is legit one of my favorite channels 😂
Thank you! I’m glad you like it!

Thank you! I appreciate that, and I agree with you 100%

I’m glad. Please let me know how it goes!
I appreciate that you cite your sources and explain them clearly. Great video!
Thank you!
Hi from Sunderland England I love this channel
Awesome! Thank you!

Thanks for watching. Pigs are a joy for sure!
Excellent video - Thanks!
Glad you liked it! Thank you.
I have 3 potbellies, or varied ages. I am going to find seeds for all the things you're growing. Mine do forage, but have pellets for breakfast
Sounds great!
Awesome presentation
Thank you. I appreciate it!

How much feed to you use to raise a pig to market weight?

Makes me wanna invest in pigs and turkeys😂
Do it! It’s a blast!
2025 goals!
Nice!
Our indistrial produced foods are such garbage .
I switched to buying local small farm raised meats long ago. Direct from the farmer
Wonderful!

That’s weird. TH-cam dubs in different languages, but I wonder why they are playing Italian for you?
@DowdleFamilyFarms
It works again, now!
Very interesting video. Your degree of 'background knowledge' is very impressive.
