    I am terribly sorry about the eye-booger. I have since then bought a pocket mirror and shall bring with me at all times.
    If you can't stand looking at the booger, please read my article instead - robinwong.blogspot.com/2020/08/olympus-om-d-e-m10-mark-iv-review.html
    I had initially wanted to redo the entire video but life is getting busier here and I just don't have the time to spend another day re-shooting and re-editing this review video. After all, I am a one man crew, I did everything myself, and I sometimes do wish I have a crew with me (to check if there is anything alien on my face). Your understanding is much appreciated.

      Robin, please, please! Remove the mention of an eye-booger! You are an amazing Olympus visionary. You are a great professional. You deliver a ton of value to all MFT camera photographers. No one ever is going to notice that eye-booger. We listen to you, we don’t look for imperfections. Please keep up creating amazing videos. Thank you.

    Robin, I love your reviews. You’re among my favourite TH-cam photography channels. I’ve been using the FF Nikon and APS-C Fujifilm systems so far, but after stumbling upon your channel, I have placed my order for my first ever M43s system. The best part of your reviews, in my opinion, is that you attach spectacular images to them. Nothing is a more powerful testament to the ability of a lens than that. Keep going!

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Praveen, you are too kind. I do believe that the purpose of having a camera is to shoot images, hence the review is pointless without good images to back up the review claims (camera performance, image quality, etc). I do my best to shoot as much as I can during the review process.

    • @AndrewSowerby
      @AndrewSowerby 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It does. It would be nice if it had a party metal body, like my MkII, but that's more for the premium "feel" than for any other reason. Plastic is often tougher. It's so great that they didn't cripple the camera, but it does seem to be eating the E-M5 MkIII's lunch! I'm sure that the E-M5 MkIV will be fantastic though.

    I am gonna give this one a try. I had the mark I for a couple of years. Loved the camera but one thing that bothered me was the screen on the back would get hot, not a problem in itself, but it was uncomfortable when using the viewfinder as my the hot screen would touch my face. A weird problem not sure others have encountered.

    When I picked up my E-M10 MkII earlier this year, I saw that used prices for the MkIII weren't that much higher, but when I compared features, the metal vs. plastic body, and the grip, I decided to go with the MkII.
    This MkIV looks like a very worthwhile upgrade overall, even if it would be nice if it had the same part metal body of the MkII. Plastic is fine though - it can even be better at taking knocks than metal.

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can't disagree with you. However, I can understand Olympus' decision - they want to better differentiate the products. E-M10 Mark II had too many similar features found in E-M5 and E-M1 series!

  • @angeloregina

    Great review, especially the night photos with the extremely slow shutter speed and image stabilization. This proves that this camera is suitable for travel and street photography. Also you were the first reviewer that pointed out that the sensor is from the Pen-series and not the higher OM-D models. A lot of reviewers pointed that the 20 Mpixels sensor was from the OM-D models. I found this strange because the other OM-D models use phase detect AF. I think Olympus missed by not using phase detect autofocus and mic-input. This is an entry level cameras that has to compete with Nikon D3500,D5600, Z50, Canon EOS M6 Mark II, EOS M50, 850D, Fujifilm XA-7, X-T200, Panasonic G95/G90 and Sony Alpha A6100 in a very touch market.

    Robin, I recently picked up a used OMD EM10Mii with 14-42 and 40-150 lenses for very good price. So far I like it very much and do not miss 4k video as I have at least 5 other cameras that shoot 4k video if I want, I just don't. The size is perfect and near Retro styling which I like coming from full frame film for many years. This camera fits very nicely in a small bag with my older E-PL1 I got for almost nothing several years ago. This one is smaller and lighter than my G95, G7, and GX85 models and I am getting use to the menu system. Just one more tool to help me enjoy photography even more. As always enjoy your take on all things photography.

      As I have mentioned, discussion of E-M10 Mark IV's video performance will be in a coming, separate video. I don't want to make this a 20 minutes video, the last review video I did at such length, people only watched for 5 minutes.

  • @RobShootPhotos
    @RobShootPhotos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That is interesting you mentioned that it could be the same sensor as the Pen-F. I know ISO noise wasn't as good as the E-M1 II and rolling shutter is not the best. I find with my E-M10 II rolling shutter can be a problem even if I'm moving fairly slow using electronic shutter. At 15fps, I'd be curious if the processor has improved ISO noise and rolling shutter or if it is fully dependant on the sensor.

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey Rob, I did not test the rolling shutter, but I suspect it is the same as PEN-F. The high ISO performance is clearly not as good as E-M1 Mark III or E-M5 Mark III, I can tell even before I do a side by side comparison, it is immediately obvious.

The external grip adds too much weight. Looking forward to using the camera.

  • @RobShootPhotos
    @RobShootPhotos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice! I had heard while it is only contrast based with C-AF and tracking C-AF, that it has improved greatly with the processor. This is a curiosity of mine. I really like the tilt screen instead of the side articulating screen. It won't stick out on the side when I'm doing macro in a tight spot if I need to tilt to see my focus.

    • @GungKrisna12

      I won't put high hopes on the C-AF, it is improved but the E-M5 Mark III and E-M1 Mark III with phase detect AF can do C-AF much better in both stills and videos. I will explore this in coming videos.

    Thanks for clarifying the issue of the sensors in the E-M10 Mark iv vs the E-M5 Mark iii. Because of the uncertain future of Olympus cameras, I wanted to pick up an extra body. I already have an E-M10 Mark iii and a Pen E-PL 7. I seriously considered putting in a pre-order on the E-M10 Mark iv, since it has a 20 MP sensor. However, I opted for the E-M5 Mark iii with a $200 price drop. Your video confirms my decision, since the sensor in the E-M5 is apparently better than the one in the new version of the E-M10. If the sensors in the latest versions of the E-M10 and E-M5 were identical, there would be little reason to buy the E-M5 given the $500 price difference.

    • @robinwong

    Hi Robin.
    Always appreciate your reviews. After watching this one I have a couple of comments for the Olympus designers.
    1. The idea of having a flip-down display is simply… terribly WRONG. 😔 If I want to take a selfie or taking a video of myself, very likely I will put my camera on a tripod, and this will interfere with the display.
    2. How expensive is the addition of a Mic in port? Why do they want to save money on that port that can be very welcome?
    Have a great day. Cheers. 😉

    I was thinking of switching from my phone camera to an Olympus OM-D E-M10 camera, but I have no idea which one should I get. I am taking pictures of books, room decor (for my blog), but I also take a lot of pictures of streets, old buildings, and nature. I've read that OM-D E-M10 Mark ii has the most customizable features, OM-D E-M10 Mark iii is slightly better than the previous model, but it's simplified, and OM-D E-M10 Mark IV is more qualitative, but it's quite expensive, so I was wondering if it does worth the money, since OM-D E-M10 Mark iii is the most accessible for me. But if iv it's much more qualitative than iii, then I would perhaps get it, since I long for a long-term camera.

    What are the auto exposure bracketing capabilities of the EM10iv camera? I heard it has less exposure bracketing options/capabilities than EM10ii.
    I currently use EM10ii for architecture and landscapes always with exposure bracketing 5 frames in 1/3 stop increments. If using my Heliopan (strong) linear polarizer, then +2/3 stop exposure compensation.

The mark 4 appears to have gone a step backwards with the focus bracketing. I can only find it on scene select dial and there seems to be little control over setting differentials. I have them em10 mk2 and I’m thinking of upgrading, but I can’t decide between the mk4 and Panasonic. I love my Olympus but I might just save for the em5 instead because there isn’t much improvement in stills capture other than the megapixel range for the money they’re asking. I want to stay with micro 4/3 because I no longer feel like I’m working out when at a photo shoot, it’s great.

    I know this is an old video but, is anyone else bummed out that regular 4/3 lens work only in manual focus mode. WTF is up with that? I started with the 510 and bought many lens. (Yes I'm a lens horder) Then updated to the OMD m2 which uses the 4/3 lens perfectly with the adapter. (nearly went broke buying adapters for all the lenses) Now I notice that the mk4 won't autofocus with them. Can anyone show me otherwise?

    I used my OM10 MkIII to video a number of teaching videos for our business and the results were exceptionally good for an entry level camera even just using the internal microphones. So don't write off this series for video unless you are after very professional videos.

    Robin hi. My situation is as follows: I have a 60 mm macro f2.8 lens. Olympus M10 Mark 4 now costs 700 euros. Mark 3 can be bought for 400 euros. 300 euros is a really big difference. If I buy a Mark 4, will I have significantly higher image quality? The size of the sensor doesn't bother me that much. What would you buy if you were me? Thank you for your response. PM

    Hi Robin. Interesting new camera, well presented by you as usual. I particularly liked the night scene shots. Does the camera have a pop up flash? Not that I often used it on my em10ii, I find Olympus em cameras work well enough on high ISOs. Keep up the good work. 👍👍👍

    Good for you to mention the focal lengths you used for those long hand held exposures. Don't want people to think the can get 1 second exposures at 40mm or higher zooms... BTW, I think the E-M10 IV will be a big hit. It's priced about the same as my original E-M10 but with much better specs.

    Great review, thank you. One question: My feelings when the Mk iii came out was it was a dumbed down version of the Mk ii (which I have and love to bits): the main feature was the lack of customisation of the buttons (and fewer I think?). Also I suspect that it fell short with Myset options but don't know for sure. How does the Mk iv compare with the ii in terms of customisable buttons and Myset settings? Thanks.

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think it was necessarily a dumbed down version, but more like Olympus is reshuffling their product positioning for better differentiation between E-M10 and E-M5/E-M1 series cameras. The customizations are the same as E-M10 Mark III, nothing changed from what I observed.

      E-M10 Mark IV has a few big advantages over E-M5 Mark II, the image sensor being the significant one. However, if you can, go for E-M5 Mark III, it is a huge step up.

      @@langhamp8912 Not so quite dumb or anything, if they had the 121-point PDAF sensor implemented into the $700-800 EM10IV then it would potentially outsell the 5 and 1 series due to the competitive pricing. No one wants a "civil war" between models, so they made a safe call by not giving it the PDAF equipped sensor, although selling this at that kind of price is rather tempting because competitors like Sony A6100 and Fujifilm XT-200 are very OP rivals when compared to Olympus EM-10IV
