Even while still thinking this was serious, I got the Rapunzel reference right away - I thought it was a metaphorical reference to that, to someone else being allowed into her life in a way she'd never had before, and helping her realize the truth about her situation and the outside world. Not literally climbing up her hair, but perhaps maybe some fondling of her braid.

Uhg, parents can be so difficult. My father was similar. Very imperious alpha male type. He was always putting heavy restrictions on me and kept an iron grip on the family and my mom. One small step and he would come down on us hard. He had a huge pride that could be slighted at the smallest provocation and we had to walk on eggshells contantly. SHOUTING was his preferred mode of communicating anything and it was his way or the highway. In fact, he shouted so often, you could say it was a roar. Then my Uncle killed him and I had to go into hiding becuase they were both cut from the same cloth but my Uncle saw me as a potential threat so he gaslighted me into running away. Fortunately, he died from a tragic hyena related mishap.

People in "fairy tales" really had it rough. Cinderella's sisters cut off their toes to get into the glass slipper (that was originally made of fur). A poor lady was burned to death by those juvenile delinquents Hansel and Gretel. And now, we get the truth about Rapunzel. The fairy tale world is a terrible place.

We don't know that she wasn't - just that it was in the end a fairy-tale reference doesn't mean she didn't have a troublesome childhood with an over-controlling adoptive mother, with this realized upon meeting a boyfriend who showed her a different perspective. It felt so believable because, aside from the stolen-from-woodsman, literally locked in tower, and hair-climbing parts, this really does happen to people. When she talked about a boyfriend "climbing her hair," I first thought it was a metaphorical reference to Rapunzel.

I’d never heard of this lady before and I started buying this story hook, line, and sinker!

Best so far, by a good English mile.
Very entertaining to say the least.
I actually stopped eating to write this outrageous comment.

This was so good and engaging, I completely forgot you weren't speaking in your normal British accent. You are a wizard with accents.

A master carpenter I follow posted an upload concerning his sleep apnoea; a topflight physicist uploaded her struggle with fruit sugars, and I watched both to the end, so at the start I was primed for an actual mother/daughter revelation...I fell for it hook, line and sinker. Good One!

I honestly thought "Guess who climbed up my hair?" Was some sort of quaint Scottish saying, then I caught on! 😂😂😂
