Another fun fact: there was a Pokemon anime spinoff called Pokemon Origins that confirmed that gym leaders use baby teams against beginner trainers, as Brock only used two of his six Pokemon after hearing that Red doesn't have any badges yet

To answer the shiny question, yes they just appear in the overworld but they don't make a shiny sound like when they spawn like in arceus. I happened to find a shiny hoppip in the first route while battling something else; it was just chilling in the backround throughout the battle lol. I thought I just missed the shiny sound at first, but then I also found a shiny scatterbug while walking around and I'm positive there was no notification sound. I think shinies are gonna be a lot easier to miss in this game unfortunately

When I first saw this house, I was like "yeah we loaded". The one rule of pokemon is your mother must always be a snack. The whole cuppa thing threw me off, most likely we are from Galar. I chose the grass starter as I did in Moon, I usually always pick the fire starter. Yes I to like to catch every pokemon I have not caught yet.
This game is so much fun! There are so many S tier Pokémon, and Pokémon that fans have been asking for for decades. I’m only like 5 hours in and it’s already one of the best.
For some reason, I've never quite gelled with the Pokemon games, possibly due to lingering feelings from elementary school friends "abandoning" me to go play Pokemon trading cards (at least that's how my child brain interpreted it). Since then, I've gained a deeper appreciation for the series as a whole, even if my time playing the games doesn't even hit double digit hours. So I expect I'll have a fun time watching your Pokemon journey! Okay, that duck starter? All I can see is Donald Duck. They're not starting off slow on the story, huh? Already befriending probably-a-Legendary on your first day as a trainer.

the fletchling entry reminded me of moles funnily enough. All moles are male for most of the year. This makes them buff enough to dig under tons of dirt, until mating season arrives. They'll undergo a transformation until they're young are born before becoming body builders again. interastingly, the DNA that determines which moles change has actual lead scientist to reevaluate how we understand the XY gene.
To me, it helps with pokemon currency to think of it as equating to Japanese yen. In other words, I read the figures in the game as being pennies, and put a mental decimal point two places from the right. That means in the first battle with Nemona, Bumble's winnings came out to roughly three dollars. It also puts the money you win from other students into perspective. Characters in pokemon games aren't all insanely rich and throwing around money like it doesn't matter. 🙂

I wish I had though of this sooner since these first few parts are a couple months old now, but here it goes. Posting a related piece of Pokémon trivia for every episode of Scarlet - Part 1: Pokémon was created by Satoshi Tajiri. The first Pokémon games, Red and Green, started development in 1990. Shigeru Miyamoto suggested to turn the game into multiple versions separated by color. The original idea was to use all the colors of the rainbow, but they simplified it to two (they chose Red and Green because of the colors of Mario and Luigi.) Credit to Bulbapedia for the Trivia.

Ok so Oak invented the digital pokedex, Lavinton developed the OG method for recording pokemon data as the first dex, and each generation has iterated, so this regions professor developed the dex app in use in this region, not The Pokedex, would have been nice if they name dropped like if Clavell said "Back in my day we used the Lavinton method to record data by hand."

It's kind of silly that in Gen 4 Rotom was so rare it was treated as some sort of pseudo Legendary and now it's so common that people just randomly have them in their smart phone.
It was painful that on the release day for this game, i picked Scarlet version, my cat who i had for 10 years suddenly passed away. I had already decided on the cat pokémon so when my copy arrived in the mail on the 22nd i named my starter after my cat Oliver and i did the same w/ Sun, naming the starter Gushi after our family cat of 18 years. Luckiest start i ever had in a pokémon game catching 3 shiny pokémon in one day: Drowzee, Phanpy and Chewtle. Wanted to use new pokémon so i boxed them.
hitting Black/White, Sun/Moon, and Scarlet/Violet and completely skipping X/Y and Sword/Shield sounds like the absolutely ideal way to experience the series lmao

I would assume that the Rotom is acting as a sim card maybe even OS for the phone, if you replaced the phone the mon would move to the new phone, I'd like to know who tamed all these mischievous pokemon, I mean the pokedex makes them out to be a real menace modern tech based poltergeists, unless people are just willing to put up with whatever the pokemon does to have a phone that you don't need to charge.

It's kind of silly that in Gen 4 Rotom was so rare it was treated as some sort of pseudo Legendary and now it's so common that people just randomly have them in their smart phone.

It was painful that on the release day for this game, i picked Scarlet version, my cat who i had for 10 years suddenly passed away. I had already decided on the cat pokémon so when my copy arrived in the mail on the 22nd i named my starter after my cat Oliver and i did the same w/ Sun, naming the starter Gushi after our family cat of 18 years. Luckiest start i ever had in a pokémon game catching 3 shiny pokémon in one day: Drowzee, Phanpy and Chewtle. Wanted to use new pokémon so i boxed them.

hitting Black/White, Sun/Moon, and Scarlet/Violet and completely skipping X/Y and Sword/Shield sounds like the absolutely ideal way to experience the series lmao
