    It’s so nice to watch someone who really knows the stuff ! I was getting tired of watching all the heavily contoured you tubers promoting super expensive designer skincare ! Simple , effective and safe is what your telling us. I love it. ! Thank you. !

    It is nice how you cover information for acne as well as skin care for older women and aging skin. I have totally overhauled my skincare. Aside from dealing with allergies and narrowing down which moisturizer I can use. Thank you so much for all of the information you share.

    Loving the lemon loaf Tazo tea! Thanks for your video on psoriasis, too. My husband is a lifelong sufferer and my 11 year old recently had a strep induced outbreak. I'm looking forward to the second video. I hope my daughter won't develop a chronic case of psoriasis. It is very difficult to be an adult woman with psoriasis in our society. Thanks for all the education you are providing!

    I strongly agree about the sunscreen behavior, doing it every day, without thinking about it or negotiating whether I need to or can do something else. I've been thinking about the gym this way for years and it has helped me make so much progress. It's easier just to decide to do it every time, and then you don't get decision-fatigue wondering about it every morning :)

      Hanes has plain shirts for $8 direct from the website and target and walmart have begun carrying upf 50 skorts,pants,leggings,and shorts for a decent price.
      If money (or growth) is an issue Rit guard upf 30+ detergent additive is available for $7-8 on Amazon. (It doesn't work on synthetic fibers like polyester or nylon, I don't know how much it bonds to stretch fabrics of mixed content but I've never had an issue) Joann's fabrics occasionally caries it in the craft section (in Hawaii and Florida at least) in the U.S. I don't know if they can import U.V Guard T.M as Youv guard in English, a upf 50 additive I found available in Europe.
      I used this on a vacation years ago, it was a gift from a friend visiting from the Netherlands. We survived several weeks of beach going and high U.V days without either a sunburn or tan. Even the kids, who played and ran away during sunscreen top ups,did not sustain injury after being less than ideal sun protection users so, I assume it works.

    Dr Dray yasssss I love the Beet Horseradish! Both Gold's and Manischewitz make a prepared Beets with Horseradish. We grew up eating it always on Passover with Matzoh and my mom also used it year round in deviled eggs and tuna salad, on top of salad instead of dressing and as a baked potato topper. You might even find it in your local supermarket or Whole Foods. It's usually in the refrigerated section near the sour cream or pickles in a small glass jar.

  • @crunchyalmondbutter2239
    @crunchyalmondbutter2239 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know this is an older video but the horseradish with beets is a Polish type of variety, meant to be used on Polish sausage. It takes the potency of the horseradish down a few notches. ;-) We live in WNY, which has a high population of Polish ethnicity. One of my close friend's family owns a horeradish stand at the Broadway Market in Buffalo. They make it fresh, both ways (with and without beets). They now sell it to some of our large grocery stores like Tops and Wegmans but they're still a Polish immigrant family owned business! I'll send ya some! ;-) Xx

    You explain yourself very well, and convey your opinions very cogently. Really easy for people to relate to, which is especially important in advocating behavior modification in relation to skin cancer and skin damage prevention. Your videos are a real asset towards raising public awareness of these kinds of public health and lifestyle issues.

    Dr. Dray I just became a subscriber a couple weeks ago and I want to say I love your videos!! I recently started seeing a dermatologist for adult onset acne and it's hard to get all my questions answered while I'm in her office. Your channel has supplemented my dermatologist's advice so well! Also, as a fellow healthcare professional I can see your commitment to the field. Working all day as a dermatologist and then also making videos about skincare shows that you have passion for this! Keep it up! :)

    Thanks for all your good advice, Dr. Dray! My sister recently had 3 little "bumps" removed from her face. The one that bothered her the most was one right under her nose. It's been there for years, and she decided she wanted it gone. Since she was having that one removed, she asked the doctor to remove a couple of others as well. When the pathology came back, she was so shocked when she was told one of them was a melanoma. It wasn't the one under her nose. It was one of the two others she asked to be removed. This one was just a very small little bump that was flakey, but not dark in color. She said it was barely visible. You wouldn't even think it was anything! I always thought skin cancer was dark/black in color, but apparently not. Anyway, it's a good thing she went in to have the bump under her nose removed, otherwise, she would never have known she had a melanoma.

    Hi Dr. Dray, can you talk more about WHY we need to reapply sunscreen every two hours? For the physical blockers, do they disintegrate over a few hours time when exposed to the elements? Do we absorb it in the skin? Does it sweat off? Same question for chemical blockers. I am interested on a molecular level what happens to the sunscreen over a few hours that we need to reapply so often. Would it be possible for someone to create a sunscreen that lasts longer than a couple hours? Thanks for the info!

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i have...it comes off throught the day at that rate and you lose protection

    • @mariannreid3120
      @mariannreid3120 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I was wondering the same thing. I apply sunscreen every morning under makeup but I can’t imagine adding more sunscreen to my already oily face after 2 hours. I think I would have to start over with cleansing sunscreen and makeup.

    • @Puglover130
      @Puglover130 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mariann Reid I do the same Mariann and I wear a full face makeup (not interested in stopping!) and I can’t imagine applying more sunscreen over my oily face with makeup on. Yikes.
      What I did want to say though is I wear a spf 50+ CC cream (IT cosmetics) and recently was at a medi spa where they put me under a special light hoping for massive skin damage so they could recommend a ton of products. There was no skin damage! And I’m 41! So there is some degree of efficacy I think. I know Dr Dray has to rec on the conservative side since she is a dermo and probably sees skin cancer on the daily :(

    • @mariannreid3120
      @mariannreid3120 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love the sunscreen & seat belt analogy! I wear zinc sunscreen every day even when working from my office. Do I need to reapply the zinc at the end of the work day if I have barely been outside? I heard zinc oxide is more stable and will last all day if not directly in the sun.

    I have a question: what specifically are the chemical European uva sun protectants that we don’t have stateside? I travel to (eastern) Europe yearly and want to look at some new sunscreens when I’m there now that I know they’re different, but want to know more about what I’m looking for or at.

I've overhauled my skin care and now use Cerave from the healing ointment to both AM and PM creams and I am loving them! Thank you for helping me save some money! Oh and I just got the VO5 shampoo and I love it!! Love watching your antics with your Mom! Wonder if you've ever tried/your thoughts on Supergoop Shine-on lip screen broad spectrum 50.... Could you talk a bit more about use of salicylic acid or glycolic acid and tretinoin? When you advise not to use them "at the same time" do you mean at the same specific time period ( as in washing with 2% salicylic acid and then applying tretinoin) or do you mean that you should wash with the salicylic acid in the morning and apply tretinoin at night? Thanks so much!

    Hi again! Is pH an important factor in salicylic acid efficacy? I know you said it is for glycolic acids, and “Paula’s Choice” claims that it is for bha too, but I also saw a study that said lower pH only makes bha more irritating and not more effective. Thought about it because I’m excited about the Zapzyt cleanser! 😊

      Rite aide has a dupe (fragrance free for $7 for 2, at a 2.5% strength benzoyl peroxide) I buy that because the zap zit version is hard to find in my area. (Additionally I have several acne prone people in my life so cost savings is important.) Their 8 oz/bottle is a better cost than the Neutrogena one for 5 oz with fragrance.

    Hi dr. Dray you are always very helpful. I have a question. I saw that you mentioned vani cream products and I wanted your opinion. Do you think the vanicream gentle cleanser can remove a mineral based sunscreen or should I double cleanse? I’m always unsure if a regular face wash will remove a mineral sunscreen but I don’t like to double cleanse everyday.

    Hey Andrea. Most of the cinnamon in supermarkets etc isn't cinnamon, it's cassia bark. And I'm not entirely sure but I think it's something that in excess can be toxic - but don't quote me on that as I haven't researched it properly. Real cinnamon is super expensive and once you have it, you'll really 'taste' or more accurately smell the difference.

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are correct...i have some "real" expensive as well...i don't taste a difference but the research on the health benefits of cinnamon were done with the expensive stuff so I consume that as well

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      most otc wart treatments contain salicylic acid, which is not safe in pregnancy and not really known for sure about breast feeding, but probably okay; compound W is one such example; warts on the feet are common, particularly in pregnancy... i suggest evaluation and management by a dermatologist to make sure it is a wart (there are things that look like warts and are not warts, so safest to ensure diagnosis before attempting to self treat) and then there are more treatment options that can be offered

    I fail miserably at reapplying sunscreen ~ miserably! I understand the reasoning behind reapplication of chemical ones but can't wrap my head around reapplying mineral-based ones *unless you're sweating them off* or are spending time outdoors. I'm sure it's just me, but I can't apply anything to a dirty face ~ & previously applied products whether it's makeup or not constitutes a dirty face to me. I can't be alone in that thinking. That's a problem & I know it. Might have to try a watery lotion for reapplication purposes & grit my teeth, sigh. I figure you've heard this before from patients. Wish there were SPF towelettes that we could just press against our face & then swipe our neck & arms, etc. Does that make any sense? Blessings! Jackie in NY state

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      unfortunately "wipes" tend to have preservatives that are associated with a high rate of skin allergies...sunscreen reapplication is necessary for skin cancer prevention....applying it over "dirt" is less likely to be harmful to you then not applying it
