You Australian's have got it down! In my lifetime my favorite drag racing is from the 80s back to the 60's. Thank you so much for this video. My gosh it takes me down memory lane the only thing that would make the cherry on top would be to get some beautiful ladies in Boots shorts and halter tops to back the cars up 😁 God bless Australia
I used to watch on wide world of sports as a child and built many funny car models.to me funny cars are just that fun your have to be a brave individual to put your ass behind the wheel
I was born loving that sound from my dad. ( Mr. stanley james Kanae) growing up in kailua,hi 96734 Neighbors old man generalao,Mr. Anthony generalao n family.🙏😂
And dummy me just noticed it was at Cordova Dragway sorry I have not seen these cars run in years in America. Still don't disregard my statement about Australians I love them they're awesome people and their style of drag racing takes me back when drag racing was for family and fun.
took my cousin from germany to one of the races once. he's into that formula 1 racing and he says this is pointless, the cars are too loud and they only go forward. welcome to america my friend
Several things I notice about older drag racing compared to today. 1 the grandstands were always packed including the pits 2 you could distinguish the body styles from one another 3 they didn't go so fast you had a hard time keeping your eye on them and feeling more of the concussion as they went by 4 NHRA are you paying attention to this
Top fuel When the saying "You absolutely have to be there" means just that. Top fuel Where your heart is displaced by two man made tornadoes Top fuel When you can say "oh", only after you've been there. And all those "what's it like? explanations are realized. Yeah....two tornadoes......racing.
Before I watch the last race I was thinking to myself that green car Runaway sounded like it was set on kill even though the other car went faster he got there first.
The car has caster set up to help it go straight FORWARD! !! If the wheels get a bit off center backing up, they will just flop over , steering wheel is pretty much ripped out of your hands !! Hope that helped 😎😎😎😎😄😄😄😄🍺🍺🍺
I'm curious what tech advances have been made since the "nostalgia" era of nitro. The "nostaligia" cars in this vid are typically about 100 mph slower on the 1/4 mile ET than any good modern funny car run. I know et wins not top speed but still I'm askin' . They make all that awesome sound, but what accounts for the massive increase in top speed in the current era? But I wish they'd bring back the look of that earlier era (80's?, 70s?) I think they looked way more "evil" than they do now!
M Kreif They looked MORE EVIL because they WERE MORE EVIL! Even though they weren't as quick nor as fast as todays more powerful cars, more drivers were hurt and killed in the front engine rails. Thanks to the NHRA, Safety is so much more improved than in the earlier years. We still have those few crazy guys willing to own, rework them to (with the SAFETY integrated) as near period correct as they can, and pilot the nostalgia cars for we fans of the "days that once were" and we so much appreciate their dedication to the memories of the sport.
M Kreif There are quite a bit of limitations in the rules primarily to keep the cost down. Size of blower, nitro % fuel pump size (a big limiting factor in how much HP can be made) etc.
+M Kreif first the old cars ran 1 magneto and 8 spark plugs instead of 2 mags and 16 spark plugs, smaller blowers and thinner smaller back tires back in the early days ,so they stick to those basic things. The new blocks are all forged aluminum 500 cc block were the nostalgic is smaller and can run cast iron blocks depending on if they are racing or just starting them up for a cackle fest .Everything now is bigger and lighter and produce anywhere from 8000-10,000 horse power ,thats like one nascar per cylinder ,thats lot of power ,the nostalgia cars are around 1500 horse power ! They did sound cooler plus there was more pop because they ran more nitro and they use to do longer smokier burnouts and dry hops at the starting line, all which they don't do now ! And ,now 90 % nitro is the limit . basically ,everything is bigger and doubled except they shortened the track from 1320 feet to 1000 after a fatal accident ,with Scot Kallitta . So the old ones were cooler and the new faster and boring as helll, except they are loud and do sound good, just not great like the 70s ,that was the best time in drag racing ,I'm glad my Dad dragged me all over the west to watch them.It was a lot more rock and roll, partying ,hot girls backing up funny cars that would do fire burnouts! Imagine a 1/4 mile burnout but no smoke ,just a wall of fire ,it's hard to explain how great it was and how boring and corporate it is now!
No, 1/8th mile is the first "set" (meaning 2) of orange cubes in the center of the track (the second cube of the set is at the 1/8 mark). The second "set" is 1,000ft. (the second cube of the set is at the 1,000ft. mark), and the 3rd "set" is 1/4 mile (with the last cube at the finish line). ET is measured between the starting beam and the second cube of each set. Speed for each distance is measured between the two cubes, which are merely reflectors, at each distance.
Nostalgic series racing is regulated to certain rules as to not change the accounts of yesteryear. Only running one magneto, only 392 ci. engines, there's a lot more restrictions they have to abide to as well.
@@xxdanthedinoxx1058 the fastest you could fathom doing a quarter mile on a normal street is maybe 5 sec if your tires don't explode instantly because of Rocky streets
This isnt an NHRA national event prepped track. You can only go as fast as the track can give you traction for. Clay Millican still managed a 300.8 mph pass, but that's not good for a national event. If John Force had been there, he would've run the same as what you saw the other "big show" cars run.

Why are the front engine dragsters limited to the width of their rear tires?
Its a nostalgia class, so they can only run what was used back then, which weren't as wide as now.
at 10:30 (or around that) did I hear Pedragon? As in NHRA Pedragon? Cruz?
Yea. He raced Jack Wyatt and lost.
He raced Tim Wilkerson at 27:00.
A 5 sec ? How unless i read the time wrong , ive seen 9 sec cars is this quarter mile , or mile, or half mile
¼ and 1,000 feet.
