    Two years ago my then 9 year old daughter defended the Reikland from the incursions of Chaos, where orc mercenaries commanded by four chaos warriors allied with Archaon had invaded my homebrew town of Adlersbrun. She rallied the towns people, remaining guards, a handful of traveling mercenaries, and a certain witch hunter on his way to arrest a rogue fire mage in Ubersreik, and slaughtered them sll, earning the name Chaosbane from the the local militia, the first way-finder of Athel Loren so honored.
    That huge, combat-filled encounter through the streets took place on a combination of Descent: Legends Of The Dark tiles, and Loke Big Books Of Battle Mats.
    Yes. They will HeroQuest, fantastically.

    The issue with the maps being at different levels when used on different pages can be easily resolved by just tucking more pages under the low side. You don't have to have the cover of the book touching the table. :P Excellent review, though. I've got a book of Loke maps and I'm very happy with them I'll definitely be picking up this set after watching this review.

      I actually realized this after the vid and have been suggesting that in every vid since! These are awesome - I only have two more to collect (and of course review)

    They can also be found at Barnes and Nobel. They actually have several of the Loke Map Products. I bought the Valley of Peril to use for some outdoor areas for HQ. I'm debating on this set. The Valley also has a code for you to download a digital copy, so the ones I like and make quests for, I can print and mount to chipboard. Combining these with the HQ terrain, and making some like from Crooked Staff Terrain, and you'd really get immersive with such a large board. It should be noted that there is a map reference number, so you can annotate it in your notes for homebrews.
    Thank you for sharing Ash

      Nice. I haven't been to B&N in a very long time. If I saw these, I'd absolutely buy them for the immediate gratification.
      I'll look into crooked staff. thank you for the info and comment!! :D

    I have the Towns & Taverns and the Dungeon sets. I use them for HQ homebrew a lot, especially the current campaign I'm doing. I also have the Yarro Studio Immersive Battle Atlas sets. Also very nice. Dragon Strike boards also get some use. Most of my HQ homebrew doesn't use the OG game board. hahah

    They also have a small book (there may be more small ones than just the one I have, I am not sure at the moment) "Little Book of Battle Maps: Towns and Taverns". You can use 2 of those to make building, or they can be used to make connections between maps as well, to add more variation to the configurations you can use with these. My FLGS keeps these in stock, and they move pretty well. Lots of people seeing the vast flexibility they provide.

    • @yumanoid5753
      @yumanoid5753 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the first two crowdfunding campaigns (outdoor and dungeons if i remind right) there was a small book eachtime. They are kinda nice to link the large books or use as hidden rooms or what not.

    • @AshQuest
      @AshQuest  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love the size of the little books. Now that I've reviewed a big one, I'm going to look into the smalls and possibly cover this use case - specifically, small maps that are placed along the edges of these larger maps if they are found / unlocked, for even MORE possibilities.

    These seem like a really great resource! Too bad I am not into making my own quests because they look very fun. I could see using one book to start, moving into the other and then taking the first book and flipping to a new map in order to get a new area to explore. That way the map could just keep going and going until you exhausted them all lol

    • @AshQuest
      @AshQuest  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Once I get them all, I may put serious effort into writing customized quests, for HQ as well as other games.
      I've actually been thinking, these would work extremely well with Dragon Strike in particular, due to how their boards are set up. a 24x24 is only a little bigger than the DS boards.
      Video probably coming soon with that!
      (despite claims against DS being a HQ rip, I love playing it, the speak and other roleplay elements can be a ton of fun at my table)

  • @JeffWittyArt

    YES! I been singing these map praises for home brew and 1-shot quests for HQ for a while now. :)
    I got Towns and Cities. It’s great for a “rest area” or a city to walk through to the various shops (equipment, alchemist, etc).

    • @AshQuest
      @AshQuest  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I cant wait for my delivery of the one I ordered, but I'm very much excited for the towns one when I get it, for the same reason. it'll be a rgeat way to get some town scenarios built for HQ 2021.
      For classic, I love, love, love my dragon strike town board.

    These dungeon Loke maps are the only set I have. I didn't realize they also make towns and other sets. Thanks for the heads-up. But yeah, these dungeon maps are great. I use them for all sorts of things.

    • @AshQuest
      @AshQuest  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have spare dragon strike boards packaged with my classic HQ for exactly that reason and I love any excuse to use them.
      Also got Dragon Quest from TSR (old) mainly for that castle board, which is probably the most "heroquest-like" in that it walls everything off into various rooms and you can just place your own doors to work out infinite combinations of rooms.

      2. Wilderness

      4. Castles, crypts, caverns

  • @sidtandy4333
    @sidtandy4333 ปีที่แล้ว

    This might be a bit of a dumb question, but are they easy to cut loose from the ring Binding? I'm thinking that they would be quite easily seperated with a good knife and ruler.

    • @AshQuest
      @AshQuest  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think cutting the rings themselves would be better. if you cut the maps you'll lose that potential tile space. although it'll have holes in it from teh rings. so that said, if you don't mind losing the tile row, they should be very easy to cut out with a good pair of office scissors.

    • @sidtandy4333
      @sidtandy4333 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AshQuest I see, I might end up with 2/3 of a square if I cut them. Cutting the rings should be a smart move. "Losing" the book is of course not the best, but then again they are meant to be played on :)
      I ended up buying Giant Book vol 3 and two of the mini books. Super excited to test them out!
