I remember saying to my mum and my family. On Christmas Day 2014. While my mum was helping with setting the table for Christmas. Here comes in mrs. Overall. As our mum was struggling to walk. Our mum was was walking just like Mrs. Overall. We all laughed including our dear mum. Sadly none of us knew our mum was suffering from cancer, and was in a lot of pain. Sadly our mum only a few weeks later. Even though it hit us. That is a Christmas I will never forget. As for I made our mum laugh with her loving family during our mum's very last Christmas day.
A bit of Victoria Wood trivia for those who may not know: Acorn Antiques was based on a number of very bad TV and radio shows that Victoria Wood had listened to / watched when younger. "Crossroads" being the most famous one, but also a radio soap called 'Waggoner's Walk' (Victoria Wood based a lot of the dialogue on that - she said it was written and performed like "all of the lines were in capital letters"). There was also another inspiration from a 1970s TV show called 'The Cedar Tree' in which one the main characters would regularly forget her lines and instead of editing it out, the other cast members would have to try and pretend it didn't happen and improvise their way out of it. The 'Making of' at the end of this video was based not only on the infamous sacking of Noele Gordon from Crossroads, but also on a documentary in the 80s showing the behind the scenes goings on of EastEnders. Victoria Wood based Marion Clune on Julia Smith, who was then the producer of Eastenders. Apparently she didn't like the comparison, but the then cast of EastEnders thought it was hilarious.
I remember The Cedar Tree - if only for the picture of a cedar tree in the title screen and recognising it as one of the trees in a nearby park. It was the sort of midday staple drama that sat between the lunchtime news, racing from Haydock and children's programmes starting at 1500. The other one was Crown Court. All very boring if you were off sick from school. Enough to drive you back to the following day.
I well remember watching "Crossroads"....complete with wobbly scenery, fluffed lines & missed 'eyelines'. Benny Hill did much the same thing with "The New Avengers"... ...the mis-matched stunt doubles was hilarious!
The set is fab - the unnecessary steps, that absurd ballustrade, the jutting out props. It’s so cluttered and AmDram, just like the acting, script, camera work. A *brilliant* send up.

At 6:17 this was a real outtake, both Celia and Victoria always found it hard not to laugh when Julie came on as Mrs Overall. So they decided to keep this one in and use it.
they are all so wonderful, but I do love Mrs O and I remember Crossroads sort of ish, hysterically bad, there was Sandy his dreadful Mother and wobbly sets
The sets were no more wobbly than many other shows at the time I remember watching an episode of Corriw from the 70s or 80s where Ivy Tilsleys staira looked like they were about to collapse
"Oh it's nothing. It doesn't matter." That line is repeated a few times in one episode. The funny thing is, it's a line that's often used on TV or in a film. I've only noticed it because of Acorn Antiques. 🤣
Been to an Antique shop in Anglesey or brick or bracket. Change signs alternate weeks. Evergo to charity shops ?. They are lovely humans. How much is that ?. Dave
Does anyone know what the joke documentary about Acorn Antiques was called ? I remember the line asked by the doc maker , does the cast get on in real life. The response was on the whole, I should have to say, no. I can't do it justice and I look for it every now and again. I thank you in advance.
One of the funniest bits of British tv . All of national treasures in one place.
Can you imagine how many more wonderful things Victoria could of come up with if only she hadn’t been taken so early from us.
(Could’ve)short for could have.
Please!
@@TheAymsa no shit sherlock
I agree Banana buttons, Victoria would of undoubtedly dazzled us all with more of her talent .
@Ruth King thank you for your reply. Wish I could have met her xxx
I know , it’s heartbreaking, funniest woman ever 😢
I used to watch Crossroads after school and laugh my head off at the serious programme, so when this parody arrived it was heaven
Comedic writing and acting genius, never to be repeated..

Timeless like all Victoria Wood’s work. Love it love it love it. Still laughing my head off. Thank you VW
Celiac Imrie is SUCH A TALENTED & LOVELY PERSON. 😃
She is
Shame about her allergies
Haha, watching them all back to back like this, I actually began to forget it was a satire and got into the storylines as I would with any real soap.

God Bless Victoria Wood and May she Rest in Peace, XXXX ❤❤
The whole cast brilliant. Thank you Victoria👏👏👏👏👏👏
Absolutely hilarious brilliant comedy 🎭
Love it, and much better acting than you'll find in Coronation street.
The send up of Noelle Gordon’s sacking from Crossroads is just genius
I love the couple who are in the background pretending to look at antiques!
Love, love, love this! Victoria Wood was genius. Miss her so much.
Thank you so much for this. 😊
This is TV heaven. Make me feel all warm and fuzzy watching it. Like an old bloody man. 😂😂

I absolutely agree. She is fantastic truly superb.
It's so untouchably perfect
The genius of Victoria wood ❤

Mrs Overall wearing a leotard is one of the funniest sights ever.
A lovely tray of decaffeinated coffee, low fat milk and sugar free sugar . I still use that line every day making coffee for me and my hubby. 😊
That show was my life.
"the Spaniards may have enormous onions but their manners remain much to be desired" 😂
Maggie Steed is brilliant!
Love Maggie Steed. She was brilliant in Shine On Harvey Moon, another great 80s show.
Brilliant absolutely brilliant.
What a great show, so sad we have nothing like this today,!
Yes all crap now on tv
Not like this alas for sure?!
Mrs Overall's strategically placed rubber glove!🤣
Ha ha ha
A great talented lady. I so miss her style and wit

@@zeddeka I knew about the clear Crossroads parallels but had never heard of the others you mentioned. Thanks - I’ll look them up 🙂
I love how Duncan Preston imitates Ronald Allen’s vocal style when speaking.
That look on Julie Walter's face afer Celia Imrie had just reminded her about how she'd forgotten the sweeteners is brilliant , that vacant stare..
Victoria the brilliant 👏🏾 👏🏾 And the crew absolutely hillarious 😂😂😂 Julie Walters and Celia😂😂😂😂
A lovely send up of soap operas.
7:19 THE most funniest scene in any comedy show..ever.
Just sublime ❤

"Well if it's another christening..."
"...we will!"
Julie Walters is a genius
Omnibus editions were such a big thing back in the day. I forgot about them 😅
I so wish that Berta had really recorded "Anyone Can Break A Vase" ...
I swore she did. I used to listen to it whilst reading all 438 of my Acorn Antiques paperbacks.
Definitely! I'd have bought several copies...
Does anyone have book 3 of the Acorn Antiques series? I need it to complete my collection.
I always love the snarky continuity announcer.
Look how the press treated poor Yorkie, fergie :D

I recognise Peter Ellis who played Chief Superintendent Brownlow in TheBill.
Love the pauses, such a great parody of TV blunders
Absolutely loved this show 😂.its fab too go back and enjoy again 😁
I sat next to Celia Imre on the Tube once. :-)
This is golden
It was lovely and brilliant watching this again.

Genius writing
"Hello? I thought you'd committed suicide...?"
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I will chuckle every time I add muesli to my shredded wheat. .
34:38 Chief Superintendent Brownlow goes from instilling discipline to his police station to smashing his face into a camera 🤣🤣🤣
Hadn't seen your comment, I just had to Google who it was, it was driving me mad!
Don’t talk to the press if you like having kneecaps
Celia trying hard not to laugh as Duncan was kissing her at 4:05
The 'Customers'! 🤣

“ is it on the trolly”
Can you point to it?
44:52 Why is Babs reminding of Hugh Laurie in that episode from Blackadder Goes Forth?
For a fleeting second, yes I see it too.
Gorgeous Georgina
I wouldn’t want to miss the Omibus Edition
Fuengerola Poly...
😂😂😂love British comedy 💙
If only they knew that the Spaniard was the Sun Hill Police Superintendent very undercover. 😮
At one point you can see a man's arm pulling the background scenery to make it wobble and I've no idea if it was on purpose.
See the Spaniard was the Super in The Bill
Classic comedy.
Been to an Antique shop in Anglesey or brick or bracket. Change signs alternate weeks. Evergo to charity shops ?. They are lovely humans. How much is that ?. Dave
Where on Anglesey?
Mrs O wow
Susie Blake - greatly underrated
"She'll get us out of it..... improvise"

The sketch is a part of this video around the 50:00 mark.

The ONLY weak part of the entire thing is the character of Trixie. She adds nothing to this
Definitely agree
Trixie is the bog-standard soap sexy young lady, or the sexy trouble-maker. The fact that nothing really happens with her is part of the joke.
Omibus edition? Why not try an omnibus edition as well?
