Spent lots of time exploring both areas, and the devastation of the communities is heartbreaking. Were I in close proximity, I'd be there helping in any way I could. Not a storm. Not even just the Yellowstone. A lot of our rivers are flooding due a multitude of mountain snow melt and record rainfall. Makes me sad. Praying for everyone back home in MT. 🙏 Just seeing these places i used to drive by for decades just destroyed in moments.
I grew up in Kalispell and have lived in Billings for over 20 years, it's surreal and heart breaking to witness. The community is there for each other, and we will rebuild and overcome I hope. As a Montanan I like to think we are hard working and up to the task at hand.
Courageous words, but you forgot to mention that those of us who love the West face different challenges than those in the East. They have tornadoes, hurricanes, we have earthquakes, fires, floods.,drought. Prayers for all, this is an epic situation. If I could I would magically transfer two weeks of rain here, we are under severe drought conditions. Take one day at a time, Montana and the West is still here, so are you. I was in billings about 2 years ago.
I was looking for a new home and after being there a week, I decided Billions definitely was not my new home.

@@sbacon92 lol it definitely has a certain underbelly but what city doesn't now a days? The cost of living is great, I was able to rent my own place before moving in with my fiance. All my friends and family are here. And parking on the Rims that overlook the city is quite the romantic experience. Like anything I take the good with the bad, but I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.
This is so surreal. My friend and I were supposed to fly out Tuesday night to Yellowstone and stay until Sunday. It would've been my first time there. May God be with these people.

I called to my wife to come see this. We have driven through there when we were out visiting family in Idaho. Both of us had no words. Just whoa.
I was blessed to spend 10 days there last September. My heart hurts so much for all those communities & families who are suffering from such devastating, life changing destruction.
Unfortunately, at this time, I am unable to donate any funds, but, my prayers will always be with the beautiful people of this area. I hope to be able to come back in the future. May God give all those affected, strength, courage, endurance, &, perseverance to rebuild this stunning area.

I’m close to Cody on the Shoshone. The river is high but hasn’t jumped it’s banks. What happened just north of us is heartbreaking.

These are my people, this is my home. Born and raised in Billings, Montana. Currently have Mother, brother, sister still living there. Family cabin is in area that has been wash out with highest water levels in 140 years. My thoughts a prayers go out to all Montanans. May God keep you safe, healthy, and dry.

This is what happens when we get over 10ft of heavy wet snow on Memorial day weekend. Spring run off from the mountains with rain. If you plan a vacation by mountains you might want to check snow pack in the mountains during the spring. We always have spring run off here. Please think about the local communities. It's not all about your vacation.
My prayers for all in the affected areas. Glad though there are drones to help show conditions and find anyone in need of help.
I have four rock hound friends that will find some awesome rocks when this passes.

but we've been warned for over 50 years.. some of us have listened ... some of us have not .. MT is a right-wing foxTV media lying Republican state who has not believed in climate change and now .. wants those of us .. who have believed in the science of climate change and have tried for decades for more money from our government to prevent these catastrophe disasters from happening .. either we work together (i.e. raise taxes on the wealthy to 91% / corp 50%) or we'll die together ..

Thank you for sharing this. As someone who lives and has a business in Cooke City our season is over before it even had a chance to begin. We don't know if our hotel will even be here next year without any guests here. It won't take long for the money to pay staff runs out and then we will have to close, like all the other hotels here.
No, there will be all kinda crews up around there rebuilding, take a deep breath& its going to get really busy. ITS YELLOWSTONE and it is going to be ok, & it sucks & is hard asf recovering from floods. Ted &Crew will come through!
Don't give up Hope.
There will likely be Emergency funds available.
Stay in Close communication with banks and others that you need to do business with.
Many people have a streak of Kindness. It's not endless. But it is there.
Pace yourself Mentally. Whatever happens you will be OK.

I lived in one if your cabins and worked at your hotel. My time spent there and the people I worked for and with are among the happiest memories of my life. Prayed and continue to pray for Cooke City and its residents. Hopefully you and the community will receive hundreds of visitors and guests via the Beartooth highway route. Stay strong, Bob.

this is heartbreaking to see. I lived in West Yellowstone for 5 years and still have a lot of friends out there, I’m extremely grateful that they are safe but one of my friends her family has a ranch out in paradise valley and it is completely submerged under water because of the flooding. my prayers go out to everyone affected by the flooding. the yellowstone area is such a beautiful and peaceful place, it’s very hard to see this kind of destruction happen to this wonderful place again (I’m referring to the fire that happened in 88’ that nearly wiped the place off the map)

My heart breaks for these people in Montana. So sad about the flooding! But, we in Kentucky have also had our share of weird weather such as the tornado that touched down in Mayfield and Bowling Green. There isn't much left of Mayfield.

While it is both devastating and destructive, heavy rainfall irrigates and replenishes the underground aquafers that provide well water later.
A lot of it has to do with the snow pack we have in the mountains here but yes you are right.
Virtually none of that water will help replenish underground aquifers. It will just flow away. It can take decades or more to replenish undergroud water.

If it doesn't flood, people scream drought, if it floods people scream 'underground water just flows away', if it rains less than last year, people scream 'all teh crops will die', if it rains more than last year, people scream 'all teh crops are rotting in puddles of water'. Heart breaking, I l live in a River City, and know the devastation of floods. Praying the Government goes thru and give them all the money they need. If you were planning on vacationing at Yellowstone, check out what towns are open and visit them.
Don't worry they won't. And the insurance companies won't pay out either just like in Paradise, CA.
In this case it's not just a matter of money, but the time needed to build new infrastructure. The time needed is what's going to hurt the communities, as the tourist season will be over long before the new roads are built.

There is no such thing as"Mother Nature". This is God's decision and he has sent far worse floods before this.

Went over bear tooth pass on the 11th- to Cody and back to red lodge- tried leaving out of belfry on the 13th AM-

Going to be where? Yellowstone or the surrounding communities? Yellowstone won't be open for weeks, which is doubtful. Communities are flooded, access to communities is limited. More runoff from snow packed mountains, right into the rivers. Unless you are going to "be there" next week to help and donate your time and labor, I suggest you avoid the area entirely.
They are now saying the southern part of the park will be opening next week. Cody, Wyoming would be your best bet for lodging. While it’s true that several towns just outside the north and northeast gates are severely damaged, towns to the east and south of the park are not. PLUS, ONE OF THE WAYS TO HELP THE AREA IS TO COME TO THE UNDAMAGED PARTS AND BE A TOURIST. This area lives and dies by tourism and the past two years of covid nonsense restrictions has already hit us hard. Now this.
I don’t think folks realize the intense power of the water…I lived close to Cody for over 12 years and enjoyed going to Yellowstone….. It’s so devastating to see all the flooding and damage seen in this video…

What a mess. Floods are so devastating with all the dirty brown water filled with chemicals, sewage and debris. Interesting the railroad managed to remain intact. Don't forget the poor souls in Mayfield, KY, last December with the unprecedented tornado. At least here no one's been injured or drowned in this disaster.

Your comment had me looking up the Yellowstone River. I really didn't know which side of the Continental Divide it was on but was surprised to learn it is a 692-mile, northeast-flowing tributary of the Missouri River. It is too bad that none of that water will make it into Lake Mead/Colorado River basin.

@@edlynnporter7519 Other way round. It flows south west from Colorado to Arizona and then south to Mexico where it dries up. Sometimes with extra release from the US it reaches the Gulf Of California but its a rarity these days.

My husband & I live within walking distance from many of these places. We were evacuated that Monday night. Flood water was in our far back yard, for several days afterward. Our home was OK.

Hey, I lived this. My husband & I were evacuated that Monday night. Much of this was a short walk from our home.

(I too have lived through and survived and lost everything in two tragic floods in Texas.) I have literally spent my entire life in and out of floods and hurricanes in Texas. 🙄 And I really am sorry that you went through the flooding in that area, but I was legitimately just complimenting the creator of the video, the comment section is the only place I can do that.🙄 Nothing I said was directed towards or about the historic tragic flooding that occurred there and that has destroyed so many lives.
I made appointments to look at property next month in Billings trying to flee Commiefornia I'm devastated for the people of Montana however this state is Resilient and the People are Strong and help each other.

The colordo river would love to see all this water. us people in the Colorado river region could use this. our lakes and dams need this to survive. I hope the rain stops and the clouds break so these people here can recover.
Lived in Billings all my life and never seen anything like this. Few months later and people are still dealing with the after math I pray for everyone affected
Everything I see here shows this must have happened many times over several hundred years. Just look at the
river banks, the cross river junctions and at least two banks ,one near and one much further away. It is a gamble
that mother nature always wins when you build near a major tributary like this one going into the Missouri River.

Crazy weather all over the country. Yellowstone has too much rain and we are in a drought here in Northern California. I have been to Yellowstone many times hiking and backpacking, I worked in the Mammoth Hotel one summer and then four summers in Grand Teton for the Park Service, so I am familiar with Yellowstone/Teton ecosystem. Sorry to hear about this flooding in Yellowstone.and the havoc for the local people.
