It is scary how far the quality of refereeing has regressed. I believe the TMO was the experienced referee Quinton Immelman, who inexplicitly doesn't understand how the basic rule of offside in rugby works. At 1:27 it clearly shows that the number 11 Puma player is behind the ball when the number 15 kicks it, yet he rules it offside because he is not looking at the position of the ball but rather at the position of the number 15. Basic understanding of the offside rule not understood by an experienced SA Ref.
I agree. I'm waiting for the day when a championship is decided by a blatant error by the so-called top-of -the-crop referees - both local and international. Rugby is in serious trouble with the current level of officiating.
Law 10.1 "A player is offside in open play if that player is in front of a team-mate who is carrying the ball or who last played it An offside player must not interfere with play." The offside line is not the ball but the player who kicked it.
