Kanku-Dai was my favorite kata during my competitive tournament years. I've earned a lot of trophies performing it. Mostly because many in my dojo did not know it and I wouldn't teach it to them. Selfish I know, but as a young 16 year old at the time, winning was everything to me, especially when my parents hard earned money went into paying for me to compete. in this video, I believe the 5th female competitor and the 3rd male competitor were the clear winners. Kanku-Dai is not only about power but also about control.The kicks are very important and in those competitors the kicks were sharp (like they were actually kicking someone) and the control was outstanding.
In the world camps, the world champions hit their chest with the palm of their hand, that is seen in slow motion. That's why the noise of the karategui, it's nice to see that not everyone uses that "technique". See traditional karate-do.
It's surprising and instructive to see these top-level karateka make basic errors, such as pivoting on the ball of the foot instead of the heel. Still, awesome performances. There's always room for improvement for everybody.
Curious. About half do the mawashi Shutouchi in the horizontal plane, and the other half seem to be scooping from waist level upward, like in Shito ryu. Does anyone know wjhat the officially approved vetsion is now?

160番の男の切れ味と迫力が群を抜いている。自分は少林寺二段なので畑違いですが、わかる。感じるものがあります。
4年前のコメントに言うのもあれだが、｢少林寺拳法」or「少林拳」です。
少林寺はお寺なので少林拳2段というのが正解です。

この型は、練習中に力んで息を口から吐くところを鼻から吐いてしまって鼻水撒き散らしてしまったトラウマの型。
104番、蹴りも上半身の動きも、切れがいいね。。 もたつきが無く、スキが無い。。
男性１６０番も、かなりいい。。 動きのバランスに無駄が無い。。 凄い。。

I've always learned it as pivoting on the ball or your foot, my sensie's always tell me to never pivot the heel. No hate btw
護身空手をやってますが、こういう空手の型をやりたいなぁ。意外と高額で、なかなか空手を始められない。
仰ってる人が多い160番の方、スピードも良いし、キレがあって良いですね。

He's very good but the first competitor is Kazuaki Kurihara who has won kata numerous times. His Kankudai should have been much better.
Isn't 153 @8:13 Kazuaki Kurihara who won 1st place in kata 7 times?

空手の型が何十年も変わらず同じものをやり続けるのは伝統を履き違えていると思う
変わらない型があっても良いけど新しく改良したり創造する型が無いのならそれは進歩がないと言える
