Not only more powerful, but more economical. Great engine. I swapped M57D30 (135 kW) in my Range Rover to M57D30TU2 (210 kW) plus manual box from X5. Lovely engine.
Get the ECU sorted and a bigger intercooler and it will be just fine. I’ve got a TD5 disco with around 175hp and it pulls a big Ifor William loaded up just fine!
Did you guys work out the cruise control I have a m57 in my mitsubishi but would love the cruise control to work but I'm running a gps speed sensor apparently you square wave output and a brake switch which I have with my swap having the zf8hp box any help is appreciated 👏 nice work I love it 😀
Wow! I barely see any vibration on your truck. I bet it is significantly more comfortable than a 300tdi. That engine is creamy. What did you do for gauges in the speedometer? Any update video on this?
Hi Luc, did you get this project off the ground yet? Am considering this swap myself, the 4D56 is not doing enough for me! I imagine you are following Dan Allen’s L200 M57 swap too
Hi Liam, I am embarking on a similar project with a L200. Did you use ĺ all of your wiring loom from the car or did you create your own? Would you be interested in selling a reduced loom if possible?
Hey Liam, very nice project!! I woulld like to do the same with my Classic RR, How did you coupled the six speed GS6-53DZ manual gearbox to the Land Rover LT230 transfer box? Have you got a contact to find someone to help me about that ? Do you know people who sale the interface betwenn these two boxes? Thanks for your help.
I got my adapter plate and shaft from synchro gearboxes but there are now several suppliers offering adapters, I think wiseman engineering also make a kit.
I love the performance. Which did you maintain the original R380 gearbox? Did you use an adaptor Kit or how did you go about merging the gearbox to the M57 engine?
Hi, we used the BMW GS6-53DZ 6 speed manual box with an adaptor to the LT230 transfer box. Have a look at my build thread here: forums.lr4x4.com/topic/106180-engine-conversion-bmw-m57-into-a-90/#comments
Hey Liam, very nice project!! We’re doing something very similar, same engine with the model before the defender. Very short gearbox. What gearbox are you using? Thanks!
Hi Nick, yes it would be great to have a chat and share some ideas. I can't find a way to send a private message on youtube but if you send me a message on my work facebook page (facebook.com/kinchhire) we'll sort something out.
@@liamchallis ... never mind ... found the vid interesting anyway ... I'm about to start the conversion of my Disco 1 here in Australia ... but I will be putting the 6sp Auto in mine ... Cheers

Just run into this 2year old video :) and briefly You mentioned cruise control... how did You managed to sort it out?
Hats off to you and engineering skill! I have a Td5 130 i use for treework but afraid it is woeful when fully loaded up with logs..🙄

I have an e91 325d and have to say the M57 is a legendary engine, 270bhp and still averages 40+ mpg and on a long journey will return 55mpg.
hi
what is the difference between the 325 and the 530

Well done guys, you give me that spirit, I want this engine for my Isuzu KB260 which is petrol, man I am going to do this.

What a clever bloke
That's what they are putting in the Grenadier! !
Great work . where in the uk would I be able to get the adapter and also the wiring for a shogun sport ? hope you don't mind me asking. Thank you
Hi, I'm not sure about the Shogun but I would suggest you try Max Wiseman from Wiseman engineering.
@@liamchallis thank you so much 👍 really appreciate you getting BCk to me. I will go and look them up now.

Looking all over TH-cam because ima do this to my y60 patrol and just gonna use the auto box from the x5
Hi Liam, I am embarking on a similar project with a L200. Did you use ĺ all of your wiring loom from the car or did you create your own? Would you be interested in selling a reduced loom if possible?
I found an ECU pinout online and I created my own wiring loom using the plugs/connectors from the doner car.
Nice conversion bud,very impressed.
Can you post a link of the pilot diagram if possible?
Hi there, great project. Do you think this could be done to a LRD4?

@@liamchallis Thanks a lot for your quick answer ! have a good day
hi there a mate of mine has done this conversion and he seems to be getting boost cutt have you had any issues like this
Did you use standalone or how you wired engine menagment? Thanks
I found an ECU pinout online and made my own wiring loom. Alternatively you can buy a standalone loom kit but they're not cheap.
@@liamchallis can you help me out with the wiring
M57TU2 best engine you can buy in my opinion.
Interesting just bought a defender with this engine swap in mind -

nice, do you have air conditioning on your defender ? i also want to do this swap....
No I don't have air conditioning, I actually removed the air con pump from the M57 because it would have been extremely close to the steering box.
Just wondering the gear changes were that smooth I couldn't tell if it was automatic or manual ?
The transmission is GS6-53DZ 6 speed manual.
Hey Liam, very nice project!! We’re doing something very similar, same engine with the model before the defender. Very short gearbox. What gearbox are you using? Thanks!
Hi Marti, We are using the BMW six speed GS6-53DZ manual gearbox coupled to the Land Rover LT230 transfer box.
Hi I’m thinking of doing the same to my hcpu 130, noticed you’re local to longworth too where I am- be great to talk to you about it if you have time!

Nice how many bhp bro ?
There are various versions of the M57, this is the older type which is 184bhp.
Something like superrover I would say
كم سعة هذا المحرك
Mmmm ... good conversion ... be so nice if we could hear what was being said though ....
Sorry about that, I know the audio isn't the greatest on this one, I don't make videos very often but I will try using a different device next time.
