    Great video! I started chuckling when you got to number 3 because the thought, "They don't have 5-gallon water jugs?", went through my mind before you mentioned it. I live in the states and buying a water dispenser with 5-gallon refillable jugs has saved us a crazy amount of money vs buying regular-sized bottled water over the years.

      We've had firecrackers and the big cohetes for a month coming from our local church.
      I found the vendors in San Cristobal so much more aggressive than in our city in a state close by.
      The end of 2022; tourism is more than booming. The streets in Centro are packed.
      Best wishes!

    When I went to Ecuador a few years ago, I think the biggest thing for me was having to buy toilet paper at certain public bathrooms 😅 While I loved my time in Ecuador, I have to admit I do enjoy the luxury of having an unlimited supply of free and flushable toilet paper in American public bathrooms!

Before you started to learn spanish were you able to roll your rr.'s? im not a beginner, maybe advanced and still cant roll the rr. very frustrating..haha. didnt know if you had any great drills. im still watching your book stories.. theyre great. thks for making those.

      Hi! Glad you're enjoying the stories! I'm actually not sure if I could roll my r's PRIOR to learning Spanish, but I remember that it came pretty naturally/automatically, however that's not the case with everyone and there's nothing wrong with that. I haven't made a rolling the r's video, but here are a few that I've found potentially helpful: th-cam.com/video/hTR6gYYW5xU/w-d-xo.html - How to roll your Rs by Spanish and Go

    I believe that this video is something that is very necessary for the public to know. I have visited there but didn't know any of the things that you mentioned. The toilet paper thing really turned me off. REALLY! Also, I don't like noise. I'm trying to run away from that living here in NYC, so I guess Mexico is not for me. I totally forgot about the water situation. I would hate to live there in the beginning and forget about that and end up with diarrhea. Please make a video on why you love it there so much to counter the bad stuff. Thanks.

    • @EricaRayLanguage
      @EricaRayLanguage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here is the video on what I love about living in Mexico :) th-cam.com/video/8Iro2SP2jI4/w-d-xo.html Yes, a lot of us have been surprised by the toilet paper thing (I used to think it was an isolated issue that just I had - lol - until I started watching other videos from foreigners who moved to Mexico) That being said, not every place will have that issue. A couple of people have commented that they never had that problem. The noise yeah - I have found every place that I've been to or visited more noisy that what I was used to in the U.S., but it doesn't really bother me anymore UNLESS I am trying to film TH-cam videos - haha! And just like anywhere else, you can find more isolated places to live if you wanted to. You get used to the water situation real quick too. But yes, nowhere is for everyone. However, there's so much variety in the country that I wouldn't discard it until you visited. :)

  • @Nickel138

    Yeah, I remember I had to explain to an American co-worker why our Mexican co-workers were throwing the toilet paper in the trash. He was getting so mad, but they’re trying to do the right thing. If you flush toilet paper in Mexico, you’re making a mistake, or being a jerk.

  • @kellyj.azania4371

    Lol...that's a trip! I suspected something on that order would exist. No problem. For almost two years I lived in a shelter on the outskirts of the city...toilet-wise, I've experienced wayyy worse. Shoot, as long as I don't have to take care of my business outdoors in the woods (as I have done whilst in Jamaica), it's all good. Also, I carry my magic plunger with me nearly everywhere I go. As far as the noise is concerned...I was raised in South Florida. There, certain cultures "celebrate" all year long. Now that I'm here in New Mexico it's no different. There's a "celebration" every night! I do believe the good Lord's been prepping me for Mexico all of my adult life.
    My only real concern would be the water situation. I take a lot of meds. I'll have to listen to your water tip again. I've been in the southwestern portion of the states for some time now, though. Going to the Windmill kiosk for water and ice is nothing new.

      @@EricaRayLanguage great video. Here in San Agustín Yatareni, which is a rural town pretty much in the country side or the central valleys of the state of Oaxaca, I've experienced much of the things you've brought up in the video Erica and gotten used to them. Like running out of water, how kids love playing with firecrackers often and you hear it a lot (that has kept me up at times when I'm trying to take a nap or has woken me up from my sleep), also the disposing of toilet paper in the container or bin next to the toilet, and that also happens in many public restrooms. I'm not from Kentucky, I'm originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, but yeah it's a bit different. The thing for me that I wasn't expecting really, that shocked me shocked me being here was the thing you pointed out on running out of water that we need for our sinks, shower head, and to flush the toilet because yeah our water in the U.S. is like unlimited, but the water bill may just go up. Now though, my roommates and I don't have that problem as much because it rains a lot here in Oaxaca, and we just got through a rainy season and we have a well that is with this house and we use water from the well. For cooking and drinking we use water from our "garrafones" too. Oh and I don't know if it's like this in Chiapas, but another thing that I've had to get used to was how it rains so much here and I've heard that it's because parts of Mexico experience a rainy season every year.
      Edited, new info: today is my last day in San Agustín Yatareni, I'm moving away from my roommates to relocate somewhere else in Mexico. 😁

    I really appreciate these kinds of videos as they 'tell the truth." I am now reconsidering moving to Mexico if all the towns, cities, etc are like this. Firecrackers all the time is not restful, especially for older people and then there's the TP situation:( I saw another YT who showed that the public toilets do not have toilet seats!!! How can this possibly be sanitary and healthy??? I don't think I could ever adjust to living in subzero healthy conditions. Isn't there Any place in Mexico that offers peace, quiet, No stray dogs, and toilets that you can actually flush? TFS

      Local customs, traditions, and conditions will vary all over the country and from one neighborhood to the next. Personally the reasons I (and most expats) love Mexico far outweigh what we don't. th-cam.com/video/8Iro2SP2jI4/w-d-xo.html But every person will be different with regards to their ability to adapt. • @EricaRayLanguage
      @EricaRayLanguage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We've never had a problem at all. No, there aren't tons of black people here in San Cristóbal as there are in other places (like Mérida, it seems), so people will stare sometimes and call me and my daughters beautiful and touch our hair and tell my husband how beautiful his family is, and request pictures. Lol. So attention, yes. But negative attention I haven't experienced yet. And this isn't all the time. Often I just live my life without people even second glancing. Unfortunately, I have heard that Afro-Mexicans are often treated poorly, which is very sad. :( Honestly, nationality and socioeconomic status seems to make more of a difference than color.

    • @EricaRayLanguage
      @EricaRayLanguage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GoogleUser-yv7fe I rarely even think about the existence of the cartel until you guys ask me about it here on TH-cam. Haha. So that will give you an idea of how little it actually affects one's life, unless you live in a notoriously dangerous area, such as Ciudad Juarez. Personally, we wouldn't choose to live in any of the areas that border the U.S. because that's where the bulk of the problem is.
