Want to share an experience.. last time when I visited Shillong I stayed near umiam.. it’s a beautiful place but the people aren’t that welcoming I mean Hindi toh choro we were conversing in English but people around that place were not at all cooperative.. our scooty broke down and no one was willing to help us find a mechanic.. straight up nodded their heads in denial that they didn’t know anything.. even the local shopkeepers had a grin on their face as if we were irritating them just by asking where can we find a mechanic.. That was a weird experience.. not judging any place based on that but being a little kind to people who don’t know the local tongue can actually make a huge difference.. it’s just not the scenic beauty but the people and the environment overall makes a place a tourist attraction.. I hope eventually people out there soften up and don’t think that tourists are there to harass them.. But I loved Shillong as one of my close friend and her family being Khasi themselves were the best host one could ever want.. I don’t know about others but this particular family justified our Indian culture of “Atithi Devo Bhava “.
