  • The oldest and craziest market in Shillong Meghalaya is Ïewduh (also known as Bara Bazar) which is also the main market in the city. We went shopping there with a 'Khohshot' which is a local basket with a chest strap made from bamboo wood.

Loofahs are crop plants. They grow in vines like cucumber or squash. They are edibles just like cucumber or pumpkin. Only young ones can be eaten. It contains fiber which helps in digestion. It can be prepared just like any other vegetables like making soup. It is tasty. Mature loofahs are used as scrubbing sponges. You can find people selling loofahs with covering. This right here is already peeled off. Try it!! 🙌😄

I must say your vlogs keeps getting better and better - so glad to have a glimpse of your day here in Shillong. After a long wait of knowing that you'll be posting about shillong 🤭and here it is I got so excited when I saw the notification and that to its a shopping vlog in iewduh 😅. The only thing running throught my mind while watching the video was - how is he able to walk around iewduh with a khoh and not get pushed, stuck in a place because of the crowd, stepped on the foot by someone else or even whistled by the men carrying the boxes to make way for them to pass , but anyway it was fun to watch and seriously waiting for the next vlog which I'm guessing is the khasi market for second hand clothes 🤭🤭 okay now I think this comment is too long 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣but yes eagerly waiting for the upcoming vlog . And I have to say for a man from the city adapting himself in a small town and that too in the North East Meghalaya, hats off to you for not complaining but living it in the best way and enjoying every detail about our state so thankyou so much for showing love and respect to my hometown🥰🤗

Well Mr DC Traveller the first purchase you made is called as 'Sohprew' in Khasi and widely known as 'loofah', so that actually comes out from a kind of vegetable like a gourd, where the tender or green Sohprew is used for cooking as a vegetable, and if left for longer times till it turn yellow and dry, naturally that scrubber look form and can be harvested to use as a 'Sohprew' for bathing purpose.

It isn't made. It's a dried up part of a kind of gourd. In the raw form it is edible, a sort of lauki. When it dries up, the skin hardens and the inner part is the soft part inside. The hardened skin is peeled out and the 'loofah' is ready, naturally,
The floor brush is also used to scrub stubborn dirt on clothes. It is made from the root of the bamboo.

Rebaptizing Bah as Khot Bahduh😄😄 100 bucks for a khoh is too cheap considering the labour and the crafting skills involved!!!

That soh prew that use for bath it is not handmade it is a vegetable that we use to eat. With that vegetable we just keep it till it become hard and then we will peel out its hard skin and we will get that for bath.
