When I was in college I really got into the Avett Brothers. This was always my favorite song of theirs. I had periods of anxiety and depression where I felt really alone in college. Would drive around at night by myself hoping for the day I could be in love or have someone in my passenger seat. Years later I started dating my girlfriend. After 6 months I listened to this song again and it all clicked, as I had not put two and two together, without even knowing I asked her to be my girlfriend on February 7th. Makes this song even better, and what I have now meant to be. We have been together for 3 years.
It's one of my favorites of theirs... it's the cello and the bass that get me.... I can't get enough of them, plus just an absolutely killer melody line and then with the harmony vocals... it's just a brilliant song.
My mom died last year feb 7th after I heard the news I bought a 6 pack and went home and put my head phones in and played pandora. This song came on... Lil back story this was my brother's favorite band he committed suicide in 2018 and no hard feelings was the song we played at his funeral. When this song came on the day my mom passed. I balled cause to me it was my brother saying he was there waiting for her and her telling me she was okay and with my brother. God. You guys are amazing it may be sad the reasons for why I love your music but you guys nailed it with those 2 songs for me and remembering very speacial people.
I leave awhile and then come back. They're always just as good if not better. The organic nature of their creations is almost downright scary. I love these guys.
My li'l brother took his life this 7th day of February. He loved this band and I was just going through some of these songs and remembering him singing them. Then I saw the title of this one, never knew the name of it til now. Thank you for the beautiful music and memories. 💔
I always watch this on this day and I just saw this comment. I lost my little brother to suicide in 2019. I hope the music brings your soul some peace.
I'll never forget. Feb 7, 2020 I was fixin to post this song on my Facebook but I went downstairs to put in a load of laundry first. I fell down the stairs & broke my friggin leg! My husband did laundry for the next 6 wèeks. LoL!! And then there's the song Laundry Room :)
This is the first year in four years I've "missed" acknowledging this date which has no particular significance to me other than this song. Still...I'm disappointed in myself.
Oh my fricking goodness... I was listening to this at school and it was ALL I could do to not start crying during class, it happens every time. Y'all are the BEST.
This song is so amazing. I am in recovery for alcoholism and currently have 16 months sober. This song relates to my struggles with alcohol in so many ways. Thatnk you guys for writing the theme song to the past 15 years of my life.
Still going strong, June 21st will be 6 years alcohol free. My worst day sober is better than my best day drinking. I can say without a doubt, a 12 step program will help with any issues you have in life. Thank you guys for the kind words, support comes from the least expected places!! 💪🤝
+Christopher Henriquez If you haven't already watched it, you should view the video where they are practicing "If It's the Beaches." There are some great exchanges in that one, too ... Great stuff from great guys. I agree, this song is BEYOND beautiful. I was so blessed to hear them perform it live the very first time I saw them in concert ... Namaste
This song and “I and Love and You” were two big favorites of my mother. She passed away on February 12th, and this song and the other I mentioned put a smile on my face knowing that she’s now resting in peace, and is no longer in pain, but is now happy once again.... God bless you mom.... I miss you, but I get to keep those good memories going through songs, and photographs.....
Joe, I hope you have found that it does get easier with the passing of time. It's 4 years for me and I still have moments when I have the urge to call her, and then I remember that I can't and it feels like losing her all over again. Music is the only medicine I know that helps a broken heart.
Peggy Gibbons I love this comment. This song means the world to me - 8 years ago I started changing my whole life on February 7, with great success, only to have my world turned upside down a few months later by a medical diagnosis. Slowly but surely I am making my way back all these years later, and every year on this day I play this song repeatedly to remind myself of my journey.
@@bv202 I'm so sorry about all you've had to go through and I pray you have healing & live a long, happy life. You & I could be besties! This song was perfect to include in my wedding because it describes so perfectly how me and my husband were before we met and then how life broke in and brought us to our feet in so many ways! We were rested from our previous lives and ready to begin our new life together as one with our baby boy! Thank you Avett Brothers for provinding the opening track to the rest of my life!!!❤❤❤

I love how this video kind of makes them look scruffy and sort of rough...but then the song is gentle and sweet. I love them so much because they're not ONE genre. They're rock, country, roots rock, bluegrass-y, gospel...they cover all bases and all genres, can find a way to touch every heart. If people listen, they will find something they like, guaranteed.

Love this song. The Avett Brothers bring a new level to music. Living in the hood and hearing constant booming rap is a drag. Their music soothes my soul.
AB consistently produce some of the finest examples of the "Americana" genre and IMO, Scott and Seth are 2 of our best writer-singer-musician talents in any genre.
BigRedSpear I hope you know my reply was from what I have heard from Tyler Childers. He says people call what he does Americana. However, he believes that he is a country musician not the label of Americana. My reply I hope you didn’t take as rude. I hope you are having a wonderful day 🤗
The Avett Brothers really is a great band. One of my favorites.I am glad that I found them on TH-cam.Very good songs, and really great sound.Greetings From Hungary.
From N.C. and huge James Taylor fan since I listened to his greatest hits cassette every night in my Sony Walkman in US Navy barracks awaiting training in 1980s before I was deployed to the Persian Gulf and later disabled in Operation Desert Storm. These guys are every bit as talented and captivating and have a similarly unique (love a good oxymoron) folksy sound. Really enjoying this more produced song for them which is quite Beatlesesque compared with anything else they’ve published on TH-cam...JT was discovered by Beatles manager Peter Asher and signed to Apple records, maybe it’s a nod to fellow N Carolinian and his former Beatles association? Huge Avett Bros fan since I first saw Seth channeling Longhorne Slim ad libbing “Lord” in 2008. Most young artists on TH-cam (I realize they’ve been around over ten years now) have a couple good songs and rest are unmotivating. No one can say that about these guys, everything they do is amazing, from their haunting (yes, I said it) lyrics, to their vocal harmonies, to their different/off setting octave guitar and banjo harmonies, to their vocal switching. Would love to see them live and can’t wait to see where their talent leads!!
New fan of Avett Brothers! Love their music and harmony! Today is December 31, 2020! Goodbye and good riddance to 2020! Hello 2021. May the new year bring more Avett Brothers music!
This one Really Hit Me HARD, the First Time I Listened To It. I had suffered the loss of my Father, Two of my Very Best Friends, and A Very Dear Aunt. All within what seemed a Horribly Short Span Of Time. I Truly was Very Deep, in a Very Thick Fog. Then, I Re-Connected with the Wonderful Woman, who would soon become The Love Of My Life. I Literally Awoke, And SHE WAS THERE!! I LOVE YOU, ELIZABETH!!!
Wow if I could sum up my life (so far) this song would be it! I'm on the other side of 50 just hearing it for the first time The Light DID break in before it was too late and now I begin again every day and it's wonderful I absolutely luv luv this song!
Love them! True music! Like organic fruit and veggies can heal your body...their music can heal your soul. Eat a bowl of fresh from the garden strawberries and listen to them. You'll feel better, hopeful, grateful that they live the same time we do.
Came out of an emotionally\mentally abusive relationship and met a wonderful woman while I was still trying to recover and break the trauma bond. She hung in there, counseled me, kept me at a safe distance and played this song for me when she felt I was healthy again. She said it was me. God is good and wants the best for us.
Just saw this on Zuus Country, wow what a pretty song, and i like all kinds of music. Makes me wanna give them a hug. Keep writing songs like this. Its kinda sad sounding, but beautiful too..
I heard a tiny excerpt of this song on the second last episode of Hart of Dixie and I was amazed at how good they sounded, so when I heard the whole song here and realized that not only do they have a bass fiddle but also a cello, I'm sold. They have a really good sound!
I love this song and this band. I saw them open for Steve Earle at The Orange Peel, in Asheville north Kackalackie! Love y’all and kackalackie is spelt right, lol
My birthday is February 7, and this song is legitimately the story of my life, like you know when a song reaches in your chest and grabs a hold of your heart. That's what I'm feeling right now.
I first heard of the Avett Brothers two or three weeks ago and they are now my favorite band. I play mainly guitar, banjo, and mandolin, and as a freshman in high school your band has given me so much inspiration in my own music. I don’t know if you read your comments, but I just want to thank you for playing real music even though the world doesn’t seem to appreciate it. You guys are awesome. -Taylor Johnson

I went on the search for something true
I was almost there when I found you
Sooner than my fate was wrote
A perfect blade, it slit my throat
And beads of lust released into the air
When I awoke you were standing there
I was on the mend when I fell through
The sky around was anything but blue
I found as I regained my feet, a wound across my memory
That no amount of stitches would repair
But I awoke and you were standing there
There's no fortune at the end of the road
That has no end
There's no returning to the spoils
Once you've spoiled the thought of them
There's no falling back asleep
Once you've wakened from the dream
Now I'm rested and I'm ready and I'm ready to begin
I went on the search for something real
Traded what I know for how I feel
But the ceiling and the walls collapsed
Upon the darkness I was trapped
And as the last of breath was drawn from me
Light broke in and brought me to my feet
There's no fortune at the end of the road
That has no end
There's no returning to the spoils
Once you've spoiled the thought of them
There's no falling back asleep
Once you've wakened from the dream
Now I'm rested and I'm ready and I'm ready to begin
I'm rested and I'm ready to begin

I played this for my half brother and step brother who are 20 and 22 years younger than I. It was my response to a discussion about meaningful music, and I, a GenX music snob who knows everything, am hearing these youngsters talk about matters of taste, or popularity. Love them!
Living in Arizona, originally from Eastern NC, I listen to them and get taken back to the open fields, farmland and winding roads of my home.
Saw y’all in Athens, OH in 2008ish. Thank you for keeping being relevant
I forgot how much I actually love this record. I reallly love everything before this one but this one has slipped my memory somehow
These guys are absolutely amazing!
Thank you all so much for this video... these choices you've made. I am humbled yet again!
My birthday is February 7, and this song is legitimately the story of my life, like you know when a song reaches in your chest and grabs a hold of your heart. That's what I'm feeling right now.
My incredibly amazing grandma died on Feb 7th of 2004 and one of my best friends died about 12 hours before. This hits my heart.
Thumbs up for using the preposition "up". Best part of the country, hands down.
My favorite band. I love you all from the bottom of my heart.
Always loved this song but never watched the music video before. The vibe is extremely 2010s!

This is the prettiest song I've ever heard
Just saw these guys in concert, it was so awesome
Does anybody else feel that alcohol/addiction and dark places have a huge part in a lot of their songs?
No.
Thank you for doing what you do! Your music has changed my life.
