My mom was in the hospital, and she came home for a weekend. I showed her this song, she loved it, and about three weeks later she died on Christmas night. I'm fifteen, and this song makes me sob. It's hard to be in high school and be that "tough guy" who plays sports. I go on Twitter and people complain about their parents. If they only knew...
They are great people and deserve so much more than most of the bands out there for they have real talent. When I was 9, just a few months after my dad died I got to go backstage and meet them. They asked what my favorite song of theirs was and I said "the song that you say rabbit in." (Live and Die) and they actually changed a song they were going to play at the concert so they could sing "Live and Die" at the concert. After I left backstage to watch the concert, they dedicated the song to me. I will forever remember and I love these guys so much!!
Several years ago my boyfriend saw The Avett Brothers at Firefly. He innocently came to me and said, "You MUST hear this band." And showed me this video. Me, who adores the banjo, this type of music, and men who look like this. Clearly, he was not thinking ahead. My obsession cannot be stopped. He created a monster.
I grew up hearing this song in the car, and singing along with my mom when it was just us. It’s been about five years since we’ve done that, but every now and then I remember the lyrics and search them up trying to recall the tune. The minute I found it today, I put it on my playlist so I never forget again. I may be 15 but I honestly think this is one thing that will stick with me somewhere in my memory my whole life. And no I’m definitely not crying hearing it for the first time in a while why would you think that. :,)
Hey Girl you feel grief for your boyfriend .. every time you hear the song the pain and the grief makes you feel and remember your lost love .. sooo... May you have strong grief as the tears drop and roll down your cheeks smile knowing you loved your boyfriend dearly and miss him.
funny coincidence! Got turned on by my daughter and son in law. They 30's me young 60. Loved what I Heard and found out they did a whole album of my favorite arist/songwriter John Prine. Been listening to his work since the 70's. Just goes to show that taste is Timeless. Now just have to get ticket to show here in Vegas.....
Im currently 16 but I remember when I was younger living in Baltimore we had a black Nissan versa, going for drives with my dad going to baseball games or playing disk golf we would listen to the avett brother all the time a band that I couldn't imagine life without.
My old 4th grade teacher played this every day, we had lyrics and everything... And he played Aint no Man at the end of the day, and during the day he would have a full Pandora playlist with Avett Brothers songs... And now I listen to it everyday 😸😸
This song reminds me of when my grandad died a couple years back, I was riding in my dad's car back from my grandad's house, the day he died, we went to his house because we wanted to stay with him for the last moments of his life. So, on the way back, in my dad's car, we were listening to "Live and Die", and I actually teared up a little bit. That's how I know this song. In fact, that's how I know the Avett Brothers. The Avett Brothers will forever be my and my dad's favorite band. That's also why this song will always be my first favorite song by the Avett Brothers, no, of all time.
It's Mother's Day, I'm making pancakes for my boys and blasting Avett Bros, Brandi Carlile, Bob Schneider, Secret Sisters and Joni top volume while I flip the flap jacks. Wish you all impeccable music lovers were here too.
Can't describe it, but nobody could sound more like Cabarrus county than these guys. My daughter had lunch every day with her school librarian, come to find out, she was the wife of their manager. The way they can weave the hard edged working class country backround they came from with those almost Beatle-esk melodies and harmonies is amazing. Funny how a band can sound so local, and still appeal to a much larger audience. Spend a little time in Cabarrus, work as a welder, brickmason or carpenter. You hear one of their songs, it's almost speaking to you.
I agree, I love the local North Carolinian culture and all these dang yankees keep moving down here(semi-ironic) causing some issues. My mom grew up in Cabarrus county and my grandparents still live there. Even though I'm young, I have fond memories of listening to this music on the way to family gatherings and Myrtle beach.
These boys are great and a refreshing change from the superficial pop music so prevalent these days. They've got talent, enthusiasm, and something worth saying.
I am in no way, shape, or form a country fan. The Avett Brothers are my favorite band. I was simply responding to the ignorant people putting this in the same category as country music.
i am being selfish...i don't want them any "bigger"...if everyone finds out about them i'll never be able to see them live again. the worst concert i have ever been to was Mumford and Sons- tried to enjoy them at a small venue in Wisco- young hipsters who were rude-stupidly drunk-just an all around horrible experience. We were blessed with the Avett Brothers at Red Rocks this summer....cannot put into words how amazing it was. Their music pierced my soul, i still cry thinking about it. Peace people!
They wont get really really big because the focus on the art and producing really really good music instead of producing "marketable" swill just to make money. Not in it to get rich....in it to be and become great artists and produce great music..
Love finding new music, new bands, new singers, new composers. We divide music into different little "boxes" and tend to open only the same ones over and over. Try something different--you may like it!

After 10 years, I've found the song that stuck in my head for such a long time 😌
Must be a good felling
The Avett Brothers: came for the melodies, stayed for the lyrics.
His voice is so clear, the instruments are so great, the lyrics are awesome, their beards look so nice...
The beard does not look that good
Their hair looks nice
