In this weeks upload I head up to Kings Lynn in Norfolk to visit Anglia Car Auction's first classic car sale of the year. Once again I was blown away with the sheer amount of classics that the guys & girls had accumulated over just a couple of months! In the video I focus on any cars that tickle my fancy, mainly fords and minis but if anything else catches my eye I record them too.
The French Mk2 Escort was a stunner, very clean with little rust and low miles. As I mention in the video it would be a perfect car to convert to RHD which wouldn't cost much and could possibly save you £5,000+ compared to buying a UK more door escort.
The Saturday was made even more exiting as my dad purchased a Dr Pepper sign, which long term viewers of the channel will know that Dr Pepper is my favourite drink of all time!
This was my third time visiting this auction and we are always made to feel welcome. I had a chat with Guy & Dale where they filled me with knowledge about certain cars and even talked about the history of the auction. Prices varied on the Saturday, I feel they were slightly higher than normal but still a few cheap classics going under the hammer.

Glad you enjoyed the video! Yes the mondeo was a clean car, only thing that let it down was the engine light that was illuminated but I’m sure it wasn’t anything major! 👌🏻

They got a lot of good stock in every auction ,the Fiesta van must have been my favorite and they never were as common in that stage with the best engine from the whole line up way back in 1989.
Would be great to see some of the bikes too.😀

Very interesting videos, also great to see what prices they went for. The Honda Civic was quite common on the other side of the North Sea, however... I think most of em went to the scrapyard by 1985. I think it was the first bestseller fot Honda over here.

Thank you Mitch for another great video, I guest £2500 for the metro, the prices are about right. I have either owned or worked most of these cars over the years it has brought back some good memories, but not with the Robin Reliant's.

Yes they have a brilliant TH-cam channel! I used to watch their live stream auctions during lockdown 👍🏻
Buy the two sherpas near the end, do a bit of work, and you could have a nice camper for under 3k.
The auction fee was a bit of a shocker at 8 / 15%.
Not a bad idea, I would’ve bought the camper if I had the room! Fees are 8% and you only pay VAT on the fees, not the hammer price & fees. (I got the calculations wrong in the video)
@@Mk2Mitch With the side doors already on the second (BBC?) van it even had a lot of the work done. Had I been in the market, I think I'd have grabbed both and had a real bargain!
The white 6 series BMW at the beginning was a great car and a good classic now, I tend to call the "younger" cars "pre classic" and am amazed at some of these prices for what were once an every day car and they are selling now for pretty close to their original cost price.

In 1988 age 22 I bought a then 20 year old 1968 bmc wolseley 15/60 4 door saloon for 150 quid which included 1 years tax and mot. It was back then one of those bmc badge engineered cars which was an entry level classic car and often destroyed in banger races.....its now a 7,000 quid car in today's market.

Those Fiesta Diesel Vans are cool, I hired one of those when they were new for a wedding catering job. It was rapid.

Hey Mitch I just noticed that blue reliant robin with the mk2 fiesta lights ,also had mk4 escort van rear lights and Zolda trim on the seats like xr3i or the Rs turbo lol . One of the worse cars I ever owned was a 2002 Audi avant Quattro ! And there’s just no leg room in them , the transmission tunnel is very bulky and the doors are like a foot thick such a waste of a big car . Had lots of problems definitely vorsprungdurchtechnik 😂
Hi Chris, that’s some interesting information about the reliant robin! I’ve always liked those Audis but never driven one so as you say, they might be good to look at but not practical to drive! 🤣

I would have bought that white Radio Solent transit van, it looked solid....and I would have also bought the camper transit for 300 quid....then obviously take the camper interior out and refit it into the good condition van and use the rest of the rusty van for any spares......I think that is why they were sat there together...tempting buyers to buy the pair of them and make one good camper out of them.
Unfortunately prices at most of the classic car auctions tend to be on the high side and then you have to factor in buyers fees plus vat ! Once upon a time, auctions where were you took your chance and hopefully bought a bargain. Those days appear to have gone, you still take a chance but now pay retail prices for the pleasure or the pain !

Seems the market has been crazy the last few years, and with new cars getting more available again, and the economy tanking I wonder if it's starting to reverse?

If you cut it behind the seats and glassed in a partition, you could convert it into a pickup, and then of course you had a pig-up, I have seen a couple of these.
Cortinas and Escorts we used to buy them and take them on the Beach then go and scrap them ,Days rallying for 20 quid

The Mini van isn't too bad! The roof gutters rot out at the seams & that one has been welded up too quickly, hence the ripples. I had a '57 Mk2 Consul highline (ask your Dad, he probably knows the differences!), that I started building into a gasser... never got it finished as I was 19 & it was a bit far gone! Cheers. Leigh.

Another Reliant Robin headlamp fact, the model after this used Corsa B units, I'm full of irrelevant car facts lol.
Ps I had one of those Honda Civics, an auto version with 5 doors, same colour, for all it was rotten, it was a cracking little car until the cambelt let go.

In about 1980 I bought a 1963 Austin Healy Sprite in the Chester Motor Auction for £160. ( not the frog eye ). It looked very much like an MG Midget.
Made with no exterior door handles, sliding Perspex windows which didn’t lock and a starter knob which you pulled toward you ( like a choke )
It was a fun little car which I kept for a year then sold on for £200 😂

@@Mk2Mitch My Dad bought one new and straight away there were problems with the roof leaking. They had a bad reputation at the time.
Certainly are great prices, those minis fetch over $18k in Australia, and forget it if it’s a Cooper etc. stupid prices for cars here.
