My 34XX is currently on its way and im so excited I'm digging everywhere for reviews. Pretty neat to stumble onto a high quality review from a young channel!
Got the glacier one cuz the gba I had was glacier. I've always dreamed of having a gba that could play gb, gbc, gba, nes and snes all in one package. We finally got it. It can do more stuff too. A massive win for me.
My nostalgia story is that I owned a GBA SP, my friend owned the GBA Indigo. I always liked the horizontal form factor of his GBA and never owned or got one. Back then I didn't care about backlight because we had the worm light lol. So 8 years ago as an adult, I finally bought my first GBA, then I modded it with a backlight IPS about 5 years ago. When I saw this thing, I sort of laughed because sure it's cool but this is one console that I will just stick with the original.
I love this thing! I just installed muos on it and it's great! My only gripe is that some themes/backgrounds don't fit on the screen. :( Hopefully, they'll fix that.
The 34XX is just hyper-focused on that one thing, GBA nostalgia. The CubeXX, on the other hand does the same 3x integer scale on GBA at the same size as the 34XX, while also displaying 4:3 content at the same size as the 35XX line, while also giving that much bigger GB/GBC and vertical arcade. Plus, it's pretty comfortable. lol, I'm glad I don't have hardcore GBA form factor nostalgia.
Nice review dude!! Did you hear about the firmware update? Apparently it increases max brightness from 5 to 8. Hopefully Anbernic starts shipping new orders with that update, I was pretty underwhelmed by the screen when I tested mine out too.
Ive got the feeling that it would be the sp model. But the 4:3 bothers me. Also the gba is more colourfull as i see in the video then sp. Im waiting for the sp model to get here, but ive got the feeling that ive made a mistake because of the 3:2 perfect gba ratio. Im not into other games, just gba.
Hmm. I think that’s a hard one to answer. Neither one is a great deal more comfortable than the other, especially if using shoulder buttons. Maybe the SP gets a slight edge. It does have a better dpad (but it’s clicky which is a turn off for some people).
I really love this form factor, but I'm torn between this and the miyoo mini +. I setup a MM+ for my sister and I fell in love with onionOS and how easy it as to get in and out of games. The quick favourites menu it (that takes a screenshot of your save state on quit) with the gallery of your played games was just such a QOL feature that I don't know if I want an emulation handheld without it. Is there any custom OS for this handheld with that same sort of experience (among the ones you mentioned or otherwise)?
MinUI has that ability to just put the device down and it will automatically sleep and then power off and save your state, so it’s probably closest to onion on that regard. It is a very minimal focused design though so there’s no screenshot or art for the games or anything.

Thanks!
Just got mine on Monday and I am really really enjoying it

Great video
Great review, Derek! Appreciate the non-nostalgic point of view, as I am in the same boat. 🍻🔥🤘🏼
I would have had nostalgia for it, but my GBA was stolen after 1 month of ownership
Oh no! My DMG was stolen at a sleepover…
It's amazing how often that happened.. -_- 💚

Thanks for watching!

Ah yeah I imagine not too many 3:2 devices aside some older anbernics.

Cube is defective a better overall device, IMO
@@bassderek Did you mean to say defective? lol, doesn't seem to fit the rest of the comment. Auto-correct on "definitely"?

I didn’t hear about that. Will have to check it out!
How about in terms of hand comfort while playing. Which one would u say is better? The SP or the 34XX?

@@leelee7334 ehh.. haven't got my question answered

@@bassderek I see thank you! I think I might prefer the cube to this even but it is a neat device. Great vid as always my dude
Drops the device in the first 30 seconds of the video 😢
I’m not the most graceful person…
