Rival Adventures, This river runs through my town and I simply documented this run on several different days. I did once run this river from my town all the way to the coast. in that trip, I covered 241 miles in 6 days.
Thanks for the well done video! Looking to do this stretch when visiting family in the area in a couple months. Which Haw River gauge is your water level from (I see three...Haw River @ Haw River, Bynum and Moncure)?
I have kayaked many times in large bodies of water but never down river. Im local t the Haw and was wondering if you could rec. a partial day trip 2ish hours and a half day 4ish hour recommendation. I noticed this route looks decent for starters but think lower haw would deff need to follow someone who knows the routes.
This is a great run. There is only one rapid that might get your attention, but it is not bad at all. I would plan for about 3 hours to be safe. The run below this is also of the same pedigree. Union Bridge to Chicken Bridge. But the Upper, Middle and Lower Haw runs would not be the best.
Just did this section for the first time this weekend and it was my first time paddling white water by myself. Great experience. The rapids grabbed my attention right after launching. After bouncing off a few rocks in my sit on top Hobie fishing kayak I realized I was going to have to be much more careful about picking my lines and controlling my boat. At Eagle Falls I almost went way too far river right, but was able to reverse stroke, scout, and choose the right line. Finished up by riding the bicycle I had stashed at the take out back to the put in. Luckily the bump in flows from the recent rain aligned perfectly with my float. I'm looking forward to more runs down this river! I have one quick question - which river gauge do you reference when checking levels here? The link in your description is incomplete. Many thanks.
Awesome William! Sounds like a great time. How helpful and accurate was the video for you (if you watched before your run)? Sorry about the link. Not sure how that happened. I fixed it. Thanks for the heads up there. Haw River at Haw River. Here is the complete link... waterdata.usgs.gov/nc/nwis/uv?site_no=02096500
@@RiverKingsKayak I did watch and it was quite helpful, both for scouting knowledge and for local knowledge about the fishing weirs, wildlife, geology, etc. Your video gave me the confidence that it was within my ability to run this section by myself, so thank you for putting it out there! It would have been helpful if I had written down notes on rapids and other features to refer to on the river, and that's what I'll do for future runs on new water. I know it is laughably small white water at this level, but as I alluded to earlier, going into it I probably underestimated the level of difficulty of paddling the rapids - at least in a 13 foot boat that isn't designed for nimble maneuvering. Thanks for the link to the gauge. If you ever do a kind of subscriber meetup, or would be open to floating this section, or a section of the Eno or Neuse, I would love the opportunity. Thanks again.
@@RiverKingsKayak Thanks for the quick response! I'm looking at bringing a group of paddlers to the Haw this year from 3.5 hours away. Your videos saved me a lot of time and hassle. And they gave me a great idea of what to expect both on the river and potential campsites. THANK YOU!!!
Just did this stretch of the river today, it didn't disappoint with Eagle falls plus seeing 2x adult bald eagles too! Thanks for the video
Right on Jake!!
Well done and thanks for not including where I hung up in the first rapid! I really appreciate you letting me tag along.
James Warren, I had a great time. Lets do it again sometime. Thanks again for the idea and the company.
Nice job! Great use of Google Earth. Very informative video
Rival Adventures thanks! Thanks for watching!
River Kings how many days and nights did you spend all together on this river?

One of the NC locals named Matt Heckler just wrote a song called "Haw River Ballad".
It's on TH-cam, check him out.
I will! Thanks!
I will! Thanks!
