    hi Ken. How do you compare it to the Contax version? thanks

    I picked this Carl Zeiss 50mm a couple months ago based on your recommendation and have been very satisfied by the image results straight out of camera. I've also been utilizing it with the Lee filter system which combined has contributed in producing beautiful nature images. Thanks Ken

    Same lens as the Contax/Yashica version?

  • @fxvsdx35
    @fxvsdx35 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    How about older Zeiss lenses (made for the Contax/Yashica mount) ? are they optically similar to the new ones ? (minus the CPU contacts of course)
    On a camera like the XT10 with adapter, does it make any difference in the image quality ?
    Thanks for your efforts.

    I am a nobody guy who loves to shoot photos and I make 0 dollars doing it. Thanks you for your insight it saves me a ton of cash. I use your recommendation on lens to put my kit together and everyone loves my photos. I am going to splurge on the Ziess because I love black and white photos

    Thanks for the review. I wonder which of the following 50mm lenses are best in glas quality such as sharpness and the zeiss coolish "pop" effect: the milvus f1.4, milvus f2, planar f2 or planar f1.4. Is the extra cost for the two milvus worth it? I want to use it on my 5D mark III to film in RAW cinemaDNG with magic lantern.

    Everyone speaks of the Zeiss 3D look. Is it the micro contrast that causes the 3D effect? Does aperture affect this? I would want to want to shoot this lens at 1.4 but wouldn't want to lose the micro contrast.

    This lens is destined to be a classic. Love it when I tried it on my D700 and it just blows away the Nikon version especially in the build quality. I like this better than any 58mm as I can't stand 58mm focal length. Each to his own.

    Which 50 do you recommend? The 50 planar or the 50 makro planar?

  • @superkrell

    The Zeiss 50mm f/2 Planar T ZM is the only lens currently used with my Leica MD 262. I see no need for a Leica for an upgrade...!

      I have done a lot of research into both and owned the ZF version. The sony FE version is made by zony not zeiss. The FE version is sharper from wide open. You could say the FE version is better in every way. But the zf/ze version has a lot of character and is an artful lens but doesnt get sharp until stopped down

    I just bought this Zeiss 50/1.4 ZF.2 like new for $325 but I do have a little problem
    I received it in the morning check everything is fine , took about 100 pictures and all beautiful
    at night I tried to clean both glasses after that the CPU is gone so now I have to control the aperture by manual
    This lens is extremely sharp like macro , micro-contrast and color are so beautiful plus it is like new that is why I decided to keep it
    anyone who knows about this problem please let me know ... thank you
    I do have Zeiss 35/1.4 & 85/1.4 both are ZF.2 but don't have this issue

    This lens does not get sharp until F4... that is pretty sad performance considering its a 1.4 and expensive. Yes I own this lens.

    Debating whether to acquire this (zeiss 50mm f1.4) or the 58mm Voigtlander. I know from your videos that both are amazingly engineered lenses, with similar quality. The majority of my work is landscapes, though I do some client portraits from time to time. What i am looking for is ideal color rendition, micro contrast, sharpness, and perceived depth. I currently have the Zeiss 28mm, which I love. What are your thoughts? Do you think the Zeiss 50 is worth the extra $150? Or is that 150$ better spent on 4 photographic weekend trips? I remember you saying the Zeiss 50 1.4 is probably thee best black and white option, which is what my mountain landscapes are usually rendered in.
    P.S. thanks for all this relatively hidden information.

    • @KenTheoriaApophasis
      @KenTheoriaApophasis  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dan Harris both are great stuff. the Zeiss however has better microcontrast
      a used 50mm 1.4 Zeiss can be had CHEAP on ebay from Japan in mint shape.
      i cant comment on the TRIPS :)

    I spent my birthday Kitty and now own this lens and it is totally worth it! Some times I'll need autofocus so I still have my Nikkor 50 mm 1.8 for fast paced environments. I would pass on the Nikkor 50 1.4 .

    I have a 1980s Contax CY mount planar 50mm lens and a CY adapter for my Fujifilm Xt1, it is still an absolutely awesome lens and I use it as much as I use my Fuji lenses (28mm, 16mm 55 135mm) the zeiss is a magnificent lens, I inherited it from my father, you can pick old CY mount versions on eBay for £300 a bargain

    • @carlosmalleum7733

      I probably use the Fuji 35mm f2 and the zeiss 50mm CY mount more than the other lenses.

    sorry but i have used and sold this lens, at wide open canon 50mm 1.4 usm or nikon 50mm 1.4d beats this as a fuck till you close aperture to 2.8.
    i heard, that newer version made in japanese cosina factories. thats why 55mm otus has 129837198273 times more price label than this.
    i sold it and bought old zeiss planar 50mm 1.7 contax mount. believe me that is better at wide open.
