"We live in an era where almost all modern equipment is objectively good" - I totally agree with you on this. It's paradise compared to just 10 years ago, and even then cameras were already very good - great review too
This lens is extremely durable as well! I dropped my camera off the back of my truck onto hard caliche road.. and it LIVED! The camera landed lens first and the only damage taken was the screw on filter shattered along with a small ding on the hood.
Nice review, thx. The DXO rankings have changed quite a bit in 4 years. The Sigma 50mm (Sony mount) is much sharper and if you use the overal ranking and include 50-58mm lenses, it’s now eighth position...PS. Love the pretty and kind look of your model!
I bought my second hand and it was pretty much untouched by the previous owner for about 60% of the new price! It's a sturdy lens so I think it's worth looking at second hand :)
Recently noticed used prices have dropped under £700, probably because of the new Sigma and GM 1.4 lens releasing, so jumped at the chance to grab the Zeiss. Really great review and content on your channel - would be great to see more.
You are the absolute best reviewer I've seen. Very informative, amazingly good examples, and a pinch of humor. Most reviewers are sadly better at producing youtube videos than taking pictures. Do you happen to have a flikr album or similar where we can take a look at some of your awesome pictures?
You said it all, I use it for almost a year and love it!💯 It feels amazing to the touch and the ring is a pure joy to use! I’m having a hard time deciding if I should remove vignette or not.
Brilliant review, gorgeous images and excellent editing, Felix. It was nice to see some pictures that you took on “Talk radio”. Cool video, well done 👍🏼.
@@liligiacobino I unfortunately got let off a project because they are cutting down the crew size to the absolute minimum but I've got something great for September. I'm super keen to get back on sets but the reality of the situation needs to be appreciated as well. How about you? :)
@@FJ_0412 Sorry to hear that, I can imagine it has been frustrating. I have been doing a lots of sculpting lately and started a community project to encourage creativity and improve mental health. What kind of project do you start in September ? :-)
I must have gotten a bad copy of this. It's soft and hazy wide open with crazy looking specular highlights in the eyes, almost like they're defocused. I don't know if this is a feature of the optics or a flaw in this copy. My Samyang 85 1.4 is sharper and more accurate wide open by a good margin....
I too love and shoot an A91 and 50ZA. Do yourself a favor and grab a Really Right Stuff base plate (and not any other brands which I've also tried) and it makes a world of a difference for ergonomics; it's pricey but worth every penny.
1:45 fiddly Sony cameras? I still have my 11 year old A7 with 107 thousand actuations, and it is rock solid. I have an A7R which looks like new. My A7iii is absolutely fantastic, I used to have an A9 and I cannot think any cameras sturdier than A9.
You would not put this in the dishwasher...not sure why you included that. Also, why were your dishes still covered in soap if it was run? It makes no sense

It's sort of an old lens by now so it's a good grab for that price range
@@FJ_0412 DXOMARK have retested this lens with the A7R IV and the sharpness was measured at 56.

@@liligiacobino another short film shoot along the lines of an Alice in Wonderland fan film! Funnily enough also directed by an Austrian - go figure 😅
Lol love those hilarious transitions!
Beautiful photos 👋
Clearly one of my favorites. Please share the DXO setup you used to show it at the top of the heap. Thank you for your effort.
It must have been sorted by either sharpness or overall top score for 50mms!
Just ordered mines New from B&H, it's been on back-order for sometime I'm guessing due to the covid situation. Nice video!
You won't be disappointed
I got mine from BH last year. This lens is a masterpiece and feels way better then any lens I tried including GMs.
Great review, but why is the background music jazz happy birthday? 🧐😂
I liked it
Excellent review... thanks!
have you ever use the Sigma 50mm 1.4 art? if so, witch one would you say its best?

50mm 1.4 ZA Zeiss is good lens. I've this len, but my skill is weaker than Felix Jaeger. Many good photoes here.

Fiddly doesn't mean flimsy, it means the ergonomics aren't good.
what camera body did u used here?
This is a Sony A9
Are you saying I should tell my wife I must sell my 55 for the planar? If I get injure will be your fault! 😁😁🤦🏻♂️
Hopefully she will understand!
Felix Jaeger 🤔🤔😂
It's a great lens, but dust resistance is a joke really. Mine got 2 spots of dust after 3 months of light use in the city.
Do they show up in the images when stopped down?
@@FJ_0412 No, they are really tiny. But it affects resale value :/
