    I don't have role models to follow but I recognise Peter Trudgil as one of the scholars I read at the university and it was through him that I discovered my interest in the relationship of language and society and diaclectology. He is definitely a great theorist whom I thank for his contributions for my continuing academic enrichment.

    Some very interesting ideas ... although the talk as a whole is somewhat depressing since it would seem that the more interesting a language the less likely it is to survive in the modern world. A parallel perhaps to biology where more specialised species are generally the most at risk. Sad really that the circumstances which allow us to know of and study all this diversity, whether linguistic, biological or cultural, are themselves the agents of its rapid destruction :-(
