Huh? I've always pressed C to butt bounce in Castle of Illusion. I rarely ever press down. You might be referring to when we talked about Fantasia which ONLY lets to press down and not C.
The original Monkey Island games and their "Special Edition" remakes were outstanding. They got the original voice cast from the '96 Curse of Monkey Island to fully voice act the silent classics along with faithful, all hand drawn graphics of the entire games. These are my 2 favourite remakes of all time. So much love and care of the original material is very rare these days.
Another great episode! I've no idea how you're able to review & splice footage of so many games every fortnight. I've the opposite opinion of Flashback (SNES), I loved it to bits, I didn't bother playing the remake as it was universally panned. Hearing your take on it makes me wanna get it.
I like how you guys come back mid-video to break things up. I watch a lot of these 'top ten/compilation' style videos, and most people just show footage all the way through & it can get a little fatiguing. Fine work.
you guys inspired me to buy my own set of retro consoles, including nes, snes and a megadrive, with some of the games you've been talking about. It sure was worth it. Thx, Joe and Dave, you're an amazing duo!
Another one if you guys ever get the chance to check out is Wild Arms Altered Code f. it's a remake of the original on PS1. Not only a great remake but actually better than the original
Flashback original was MUCH better than the remake. All the charme is gone - and belive it or not, controls where good, managed to play it through on snes and mega drive... Sorry, you missed something here, for its time this one was epic.
The best Flashback experience you can have is to play it on the Genesis. The Super Nintendo version might have slightly better graphics or sound "as it does with most games". However, the Super Nintendo version suffers from slow down during cutscenes. Flashback on the Genesis is one of my personal favorites on the system. I'm not a huge fan of the the Genesis as a whole though so maybe that isn't saying much. As for the remake, I've never played it myself so I can't speak for its controls, etc. I've watched gameplay footage though and was annoyed enough by the "talkie" voice they gave your character that it made me not care to play it.
Gotta say, this is one of the best-produced retro gaming channels on TH-cam. Great editing and video quality. Keep up the good work, fellas! You deserve a million subscribers.
Ididn't knew that The monkey King on the Wii was a remake. And you are the first person I heard that liked Flashback on the XBOX. FF1 & 2 on the GBA were great remakes, and Metroid Zero Mission was one of the best remakes ever along with Resident Evil Remake.
I just got in a car wreck today and I was feeling really down. As soon as I saw that you guys had a new episode, I was so pleased. This is exactly what I needed to cheer me up. Thanks guys.
I know this is an old episode and I'm late to this but the Symphony of the Night port in Dracula X Chronicles is actually a semi-updated version that added back in the Maria boss fight from the Saturn version and improved voice acting
A bit late but, if you guys make another Remake themed episode, I would suggest covering the Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid remakes for the Gamecube. Both excellent remakes and in many ways superior to the originals.
+Manny Akintunde the Metal Gear Solid remake on the Game Cube plays very well and it feels more modern than the old version, but the cutscenes have been made super silly, and they didn't redesign the boss fights around you being able to aim in first person, so it's kind of a toss up if you want graphics where characters actually have faces and eyes, or if you want the more low-key experience that is properly designed.
Sega CEO : Ey guys do you put the butt stomp on the remake? Sega Australia: huh nope Sega CEO : well we are not to gonna put more money on this studio then
Rondo of Blood is my favorite Castlevania game, and although the remake was a tad underwhelming, I'm glad they rereleased the original. It deserves a lot of attention, and packing it with Symphony is an ingenious move.
Bionic Commando: Rearmed was an amazing remake. You guys should've included it in your video. In another note, the Flashback remake reminds me a lot of Shadow Complex. Is it from the same developer?
The castle of illusion remake is amazing EXCEPT for one fatal flaw. Unskippable cutscenes. I died on the final boss a bunch of times and I quit trying because I had to watch the cutscene every damn time. Grrrr
I noticed when you were looking at Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, how do you guys record footage off a PSP? It's something I've been wanting to do for a long time now...
8:58 Sing some of the lyrics?! I know 'em all! Morphine makes the holy known (Uncle Lina) Eyeing up down that sappy nun (Uncle Lina) I'm going to stroke it Your arms are broken UNCUT - OH OH I'll stop now.
The code and the graphics are from the PS1 version. A few things were changed around, sure, but the assets are all from the PS1. But really, that's not a game we were covering in this episode. We just mentioned it's there. The XBLA download version had horribly compressed sound to fit the 80MB or so limit they had at the time. This version doesn't.
For the record I agree that Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles was cheaply made believe it or not a hell of alot of other games are being made like that. Worst one is Mirror of Fate, Judgement, and Lords of Shadow its kinda sad really. It makes the puzzle game of Castlevania look better then anything.
The new "final form" boss fight for Dracula is worth it alone. I like both versions, but I always thought that for such a tough game Dracula was pretty easy in Rondo of Blood.
The "hyper-cute" super-d Mega Man appeals to me, and i'm not a pre-teen girl. Kawaii is massive in Japan; there's no stigma about finding cute illustrations appealing. It's human nature. I agree about Castle of Illusion. The original was one of my favourite games as a kid, so I was a bit nervous, but it turned out excellent! I play the same way, too; d-pad thru the majority of the game, and switching to analogue stick for the 3D parts. I also miss the butt bump, but I love the narration, personally. It's very Disney. I've not played Ducktales yet; i've been waiting for the physical release to spare my HDD. I agree with people who said if you ever do a part 2 to include GC Resident Evil and Twin Snakes. Also the FFIII remake and Double Dragon Neon are both good.
I wouldn't say that. Check out Luigi on the TV behind us in the opening camera segment. The first Luigi is from the original SMB game. The second one is from All Stars. Everything has been completely redrawn.
DUMPSTERF1LM If that's the case you owe it to yourself to play Rondo of Blood for the TG-16/PC-Engine. Dracula X unfortunately was heavily censored, but still a fun game.
Flashback? really? Think they were a bit short on games because Flashbacks controls were TERRIBLE, the graphics are TERRIBLE and worst of all, the game is FILLED WITH BUGS! Unplayable. I know these guys are all like "ooooh 90! Those are the only remakes we can make. Sega genesis and NES/SNES ONLY!!!" F*CKING HELL!!! Dunno why they didn't include Black Mesa for Half-life...
I didn't feel that Flashback controlled terrible at all. Sure, it controls nothing like the original, but I thought it was more intuitive. The graphics were pretty good for a downloadable game. They didn't have that low-budget feel that a lot of download-only games do. And if there are any bugs int he game that make it unplayable I certainly didn't encounter any. I honestly don't understand why this game gets so much hate, but must conclude that the hate comes mostly from fans of the original.
Game Sack Just had too tell you too make that jump on the second level of Flashback just run off the end without pressing anything else, you automatically jump it. Give it another go it's great. Keep up the good work !
After seeing videos of the Dracula X remake, I knew I would be avoiding this game. Then I found out about the translated original game and SOTN included, and I was sold. Metroid Zero Mission was awesome, I agree there. For the next Remakes, there are all those versions of early Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games out there. Keep doing lookback videos like this, they're educational.
Maybe it's because I didn't play it for years after its initial release but am I the only one who thinks the Mario All Stars Pack is actually a really ugly looking remake?
Zachary Hastings I wouldn't say "ugly," but not ideal, in my opinion. Also, the controls for the original 3 games feel a little too floaty and slippery compared to the originals, or is that just me?
Zachary Hastings Don't think you could call it ugly, maybe you could call it off the mark a bit. But SMB2 (on All Stars) looks and sounds better in every way.
Yes, but again it's based on the PS code. It doesn't have mesh graphics or broken new levels like the Saturn version. So maybe it's the Champion Edition of the PS1 version. :)
Yes, it sounds like more of an enhanced version as someone else pointed out. To be a remake, the game would have to be remade from the ground up with new assets.
We speak our minds! We will never sugar-coat or change our opinions about ANYTHING just to gain the approval of the masses. We would truly be a shitty channel if we did that. We can't please everyone and we sure as hell won't try. So a message to all: If you want "safe" opinions and reviews about games that are popular, Game Sack may not be for you. But if you can handle different opinions than your own without freaking out, then we're glad to have you aboard!
By the way, despite your peculiar scripted acting, you guys make some of the best gaming videos. You guys are both thorough and descriptive. Keep it up ok? :)
Zero Mission was my first Metroid game. I love the game. I also like the way that once you beat it you get the original. I prefer the gba game though because there is new areas.
Since you guys are obviously very into retro gaming, and collecting, I think it'd be awesome if you did an episode on how someone new to the hobby could get started. What are some systems that aren't too hard to get ahold of? What are some of the cheapest/most common games for the more exotic systems? What are the best places to buy online? What are common pitfalls? Where do you recommend a new collector start?
I love you guys sooooo much. Everytime you release a new episode the world becomes just a little bit better. No, a lot. I am waiting for your 100th episode so all wars will end and most of the pollution will disappear. Thank you. Joe and Dave. Gods walking the earth.
in Dracula X Chronicles, you can unlock both the original Rondo of Blood, and Symphony of the Night by collecting 2 hidden items... so that game is actually the best version of the game. The SOTN version included also lets you play as richter and Maria right off the bat without having to complete the game first. Unfortunately it doesn't have the extra areas from the saturn version.
They also made it slightly "easier" by letting Alucard "float" a bit more in his jump. I noticed this with the first jump near the top of the room at the beginning of the game. Since you don't have double jump yet...I always fell down the gap on the first try. I actually jumped over it a few times to make sure I wasn't imagining it...but they added the "float" in one of the versions.
One of my favorite remakes is "Broken Sword" for tablet computers. It's the old Playstation game with improved graphics and new content where you control Nico. If you loved the original you'll definitely love the new version.
Nothing makes me more happy than sitting down with some snacks and finding out that a new Game Sack episode is out! Also good on you guys for changing your name from MrGameSack to just Game Sack! It was a bit off! lols
FYI, Re: XBL Turtles in Time remake- You are correct in that the game was delisted from Xbox Live/PSN. However, on Xbox Live (don't know about PSN) you can ALWAYS download games you own, even if they have been delisted. I guess it wasn't totally clear in the video if you already owned it or not, but I got the impression you did already own it if you were going to review it. If a game has been delisted, you have to download it by finding it in your download history under account settings. Perhaps you can download it now and feature it in another remake video? If there is one. I think that Turtles in Time remake is worth covering, even though it was a steaming pile...
Re: Flashback...THAT jump!! That particular jump drove me insane back in the day!! From what I heard, that was so called "protection jump". You had to jump and then push up (jump) once again in mid air to jump higher. In those days...without internet...it was so hard to figure out!!!
Nobody's mentioned it until now. To me All*Stars felt slightly more solid maybe. Oh well Dave has been fired and his wife divorced him so justice is served!
I stopped very early buying games that aren't playable off the harddisc with no online requirement for the very reason that you never know when it's taken down making your purchase null and void. I'm definitely getting the physical copy of Duck Tales. Thanks for another great episode, guys.
If you're talking about games that have some sort of online requirement for single player, I see your point, because if the servers are taken down or whatever, then your disc would then be useless. But if you mean something like Ducktales or Reshelled... then I do not see. Had you purchased Reshelled, for example, you would still now have access to it, where the rest of us plebes would not.
I was totally creepin on your page. Im a huge fan of the show and needed to know more about you guys. 41 is not so bad at least you got to live through all of the gaming generations. Im 29, so while I remember NES/Master system, the genesis/SNES was right in my wheel house.
Yes! You speak the truth my man. Even though I get enjoyment out of a digital copy of a game I feel like I'm still missing out on something and that something is the thing I can't put on my shelf and admire.
i have to admit i had low spectations due to the flood of indie ordinary remakes we live. But this episode cover all. The flashback one even made me considering buy it.
That's why steam is one of the best digital distribution platforms with gog, you never lose what you have bought, even if gets pulled out of the store. And you can create an offline installor of the game to save on a hard drive.
Great episode guys. One of my favs. And just like that Amazon sells out of every last copy of the Monkey King. I'd be interested in an episode where you guys cover games on modern consoles that are done in the style of 8-bit/ 16-bit games. So basically any game with shooters like Monkey King or platformers that would play similarly on the snes or genesis.
I liked Dracula X Chronicles. While the 3D Graphics where muddy, they actually added a lot to the game, including extra bosses and a re-arranged secret level. 1. Saving Anete in the semi-final level is much trickier, as the first locked door you meet is fake, and contains a disguised dominatrix. No one will save Anete on the first playthrough as they can't know about this. The REAL hidden door will appear near the fake one after you turn 4 gears in the two ascending vertical screens up until this point on the level (including the one with the door) until they click 2. Reaching the end of the Semifinal Stage without having saved Anete (which is more likely in this version) will result in a boss fight with her as She'll have been turned. If you DO save here, then you'll fight Shaft as the original. 3. The hidden alternative level to the ghost ship (that's accessible only after beating Death) has been massively redesigned. It's still hard as fuck, and now contains an alternative boss (a Hydra) and an extra hidden Vampire Anete boss fight since you'll have no access to it once you save her. 4. If you haven't defeated Shaft, in the ending he'll save Dracula after you beat him. 5. If you DO defeat Shaft and save all the maidens, Dracula will have a 3rd form, even more powerful than the other two and then you'll proceed to the true ending. Looks like no one bothers to complete this remake to figure out it's secrets.
(In regards to Super Mario All-Stars) "Nothing was left untouched." Not true. They messed up the way Mario/Luigi collides with blocks for Super Mario Bros. and Lost Levels, making blasting through the stage as one normally would a bit more difficult, as Mario/Luigi would kind of "sink" into the block as he hit it. They also added new music and a "Bonus" Mario/Luigi face sprite for underground and cloud Coin areas.
Huh? I've always pressed C to butt bounce in Castle of Illusion. I rarely ever press down. You might be referring to when we talked about Fantasia which ONLY lets to press down and not C.

Fine work.
Fantastic episode! So glad Metroid Zero mission was there!
I really love your show guys, one of my favorites on youtube!
and glad to see Castle of Illusion made the list.
you guys inspired me to buy my own set of retro consoles, including nes, snes and a megadrive, with some of the games you've been talking about. It sure was worth it. Thx, Joe and Dave, you're an amazing duo!
Another one if you guys ever get the chance to check out is Wild Arms Altered Code f. it's a remake of the original on PS1. Not only a great remake but actually better than the original
When my sister dies I'm going to steal her from the hospital and nobody will ever notice!
The ending was hilarious as always. I liked when Dave was swiping all Joes super rare games because they were frustrating.
This was probably one of the best episodes you've done so far. Really good jobs guys! Can't wait for episode 100!!!
You guys are doing a great job. Watching your show brings back a lot of memories.
Resident Evil Remake for the Gamecube is the remake of all remakes. If you haven't then you should play it.
totally agreed, it transforms the entire experience
That comparison shot at 5:23.
Encapsulates my childhood so much. So many feelz. I love you Gamesack
Flashback original was MUCH better than the remake. All the charme is gone - and belive it or not, controls where good, managed to play it through on snes and mega drive... Sorry, you missed something here, for its time this one was epic.
Do you think he just never made it onto that ledge?
I've heard the same on multiple reviews that the remake is bad which is why I never bothered with it.
Thank you!
Gotta say, this is one of the best-produced retro gaming channels on TH-cam. Great editing and video quality. Keep up the good work, fellas! You deserve a million subscribers.
Resident Evil Remake, arguably the best video game remake I have ever had the chance to play :D
+Tristen Roccaforte Dracula X Chronicles is a PSP Remake masterpiece. That Maria Artwork is a classic!
i wouldn't call it "improved" but yeah, that guy got a lot of things wrong
Maria is back, but it's different from the Saturn version.
This is perhaps one of the best analogies I've yet heard!
Super Mario All-Stars, what a great collection, loved all the games but super mario bros 3 was by far my favorite.
Thanks for another great episode Joe & Dave. Gamesack never fails to cheer me up.
A bit late but, if you guys make another Remake themed episode, I would suggest covering the Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid remakes for the Gamecube. Both excellent remakes and in many ways superior to the originals.
+Manny Akintunde never got to play the MGS remake but the Resident Evil remake was fantastic.
Armageddon3035 Yep! That game was fantastic.
MGS remake is the Matrix, and REmake is basically RE1 without the terrible voice acting.
Giordan Diodato LOL Twin Snakes does have some Matrix like moments.
I love your channel guys. You guys remind me of how my buddy and I are, and reliving these games is awesome.
You CAN crouch in the later Mega Man games... it is called the slide. :)
Well that's not a crouch asshat
It is always a great pleasure to see your videos. Without a doubt the best retrogaming channel on TH-cam!
Sega CEO : Ey guys do you put the butt stomp on the remake?
Sega Australia: huh nope
Sega CEO : well we are not to gonna put more money on this studio then
Yes that was kind of his joke :)
Good to hear it again though
Rondo of Blood is my favorite Castlevania game, and although the remake was a tad underwhelming, I'm glad they rereleased the original. It deserves a lot of attention, and packing it with Symphony is an ingenious move.

Dug the Fugazi reference at 20:59
I noticed when you were looking at Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, how do you guys record footage off a PSP? It's something I've been wanting to do for a long time now...
PSP has component video output
Got the Monkey King for 1.50 on Gamestop. Best deal ever :P
Another great episode guys, seems like they are always getting better! I can't wait to see you two come back to this topic one day.
"Nintendo loves its fans" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Cloud Master was one of my favorite games when I was growing up.

One reason I love your channel is because, unlike most video game TH-camrs, Joe is not a full blown sissy.
Ye missed Bionic Commando Rearmed !!!
I bought the Ducktales remake for my Wii U the other day, already beat it twice and am going to do it a few more times yet. So well done.
Castlevania dracula x chronicles kicked ass. freakin purists man, everything new's gotta suck right?
Personally, just from looks, the game is pretty ugly. I have to give them that. But it looks fun.
The new "final form" boss fight for Dracula is worth it alone. I like both versions, but I always thought that for such a tough game Dracula was pretty easy in Rondo of Blood.

You missed also Prince of Persia
another great episode guys!! can't wait for the next one.
MEGAMAN X remake to MEGAMAN MAVERICK X?
I wish you covered the Super Mario Advanced series on the GBA. But I love what you did Gamesack. This was a good video for sure.
Thumbs up if you own both versions of "Super Mario All-Stars" on the SNES and Wii! ;D
I wouldn't say that. Check out Luigi on the TV behind us in the opening camera segment. The first Luigi is from the original SMB game. The second one is from All Stars. Everything has been completely redrawn.
Physical media FTW
Dracula X Was such a good game, I can't believe it took me til 2008 to play it... My favorite Castlevania by far

Indeed. I REALLY hated the way the new one controlled plus never had i have a game crash on me on my Xbox BEFORE Flashback :l
Ummmm, Black Mesa is fan made and incomplete as of now. They'll add more content soon.
Game Sack Just had too tell you too make that jump on the second level of Flashback just run off the end without pressing anything else, you automatically jump it. Give it another go it's great. Keep up the good work !
They don't do PC games. They only do various consoles.

could they have at least added an original graphics mode?
I actually like it but for the rerelease they should have changed the graphics again and perhaps given a choice of 3 different graphics modes.
Jeremy Krazyman

Yeah but they can't loan us the game nor can we find the game in a used game shop or online to pick up.
Yeah caught that during editing but I didn't want to ask Dave to drive down a half an hour just to record that part. Oh well, we remade the subtitle!
I love you guys sooooo much. Everytime you release a new episode the world becomes just a little bit better. No, a lot. I am waiting for your 100th episode so all wars will end and most of the pollution will disappear. Thank you. Joe and Dave. Gods walking the earth.
guys, I loved the cloud master vid, i never knew there was a wii version, now I will get one just to play it,thanks
Great video as always. You also always find great topics for your videos, I hope you do another one on remakes.
in Dracula X Chronicles, you can unlock both the original Rondo of Blood, and Symphony of the Night by collecting 2 hidden items... so that game is actually the best version of the game. I actually jumped over it a few times to make sure I wasn't imagining it...but they added the "float" in one of the versions.
Best show on the TH-cams, keep em coming.
One of my favorite remakes is "Broken Sword" for tablet computers. It's the old Playstation game with improved graphics and new content where you control Nico. If you loved the original you'll definitely love the new version.
Awesome, welcome and I hope you enjoy the rest of out vids. :)
Nothing makes me more happy than sitting down with some snacks and finding out that a new Game Sack episode is out!
Also good on you guys for changing your name from MrGameSack to just Game Sack! It was a bit off! lols
GameSack, does the Wii remake of Chukka Taisen allow other controllers besides the Wiimote? Does it support the GameCube or Wii Classic Controller?
I love your show! Keep up the good work.
Regards from Germany
absolutely love your show!
I would love a sequel to this episode!
Ahhh Fugazi. I loved them back in the day. And Minor Threat before that and the other band Ian was singing for, forgot the name.
Those graphics in the Flashback remake might be the best 2.5D graphics I've ever seen
don't worry, you guys are still the best. absolutely fantastic.
What'd we do?
i have to admit i had low spectations due to the flood of indie ordinary remakes we live.
But this episode cover all. The flashback one even made me considering buy it.
Wow. I love Game Sack! I am very Interresed in those old Consoles and this Show is Just Gold for Everyone like me :3
That's why steam is one of the best digital distribution platforms with gog, you never lose what you have bought, even if gets pulled out of the store. And you can create an offline installor of the game to save on a hard drive.
I love the long videos, guys. Perfect background noise but very distracting! Lol
Do you record with a single cam or multiple? Just curious as some stuff there is... very complex with a single cam :-D
Single cam.
The REAL hidden door will appear near the fake one after you turn 4 gears in the two ascending vertical screens up until this point on the level (including the one with the door) until they click
Looks like no one bothers to complete this remake to figure out it's secrets.
nice... you guys are the best . thanks for your episodes....is very difficult to make one of those episodes thanks from dominican republic
Good remakes you could consider for a part 2: Bubble Bobble on NDS and Space Invaders also on DS
When you have a 12 hour work day just sitting behind a computer. A lot of Gamesacking is going down. Thanks guys!
(In regards to Super Mario All-Stars) "Nothing was left untouched."
Not true.
