    Cube form factor would be a complete win for BM. Would be so much more practical

    • @OfTwoLands
      @OfTwoLands  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It seems to be the number one request! Personally I don't mind the current shape but I do agree that a cube form factor would be more modular and flexible. As long as it is easy to rig it up and doesn't cost double to make it actually usable with accessories and add ons.

    For me, the ideal change for a new 6k pro successor would be a mirrorless lens mount for S35 or Full Frame sensors, as newer cinema cameras and hybrid cameras are using those mounts. Being able to adapt to other mounts can be super helpful for lots of projects, but the EF mount, being a reflex mount, has its limitations. RF mount would be ideal

    • @OfTwoLands
      @OfTwoLands  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Personally I don't really need a new mount but the ability to swap would be awesome! And I do understand the appeal of RF, although I have only ever used EF lenses on my Eos R.

    • @victorcangil
      @victorcangil ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OfTwoLands I find myself in that same position. I only use EF lenses and sometimes Nikon F lenses with an adapter, but one time I had to use PL lenses and having to change the Mount with the Wooden Camera PL mount kit was a pain (mostly because we rented the kit and once finished, I had to put back the original EF mount which was... Not a pleasing experience😂). But for example, being able to use Canon FD lenses without modifying the lens or using one of those cheap glass adapters would be really easy with a mirrorless mount, as you will 100% have that flange distance diference to adjust and adapt any reflex or vintage lens

    If I could wish for improvements on the 6k Pro: stable time / date that doesn't need resetting every other day; proper timecode functionality (with a dedicated TC in like on the GH6); and one more ND stop; oh, and better battery life. One really great add-on would be something like the slide for SSD on the Atomos Ninja, where you can easily use really cheap SSD... but well.

    Update the Pocket 4K version, 4K is more than good enough for most jobs. As for the 6K, a better use of the S35 sensor size for higher frame rates would be good, and different lens mount options beyond EF. The important feature is to maintain the Blackmagic value for money price point.

    Love my P6KPro. Very few complaints for what it is. But battery anxiety is a real thing with this camera. Also the IR pollution still causes me problems from time to time. Also would love to see them somehow be able to sample down the 6K sensor to a 4K image without crop and maintain braw codec. I love 6K braw but my hard drives are completely overwhelmed. 🙃

    • @jasontaycs7195
      @jasontaycs7195 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can IR pollution be solved by simply putting an IR cut filter in front of lenses 24/7? Would 1 filter be ok or does every focal length require different strengths of IR cut?

    • @anttiheik
      @anttiheik ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasontaycs7195 I use a Hoya UV+IR cut on all my lenses and it works great. Focal lengths under 24mm may suffer from a slight cyan vignette though but that is the case with all lens-mounted IR cut filters. Luckily it’s an easy fix in post and I rarely shoot under 24mm anyway.

    Thanks for the wish list - I agree with a lot of what you said including; the adjustment to the lineup to include a small 4K model - that would be cool as the 6K tends to get chunky when you stick a cage on it.
    Generally I love the 6K Pro - it's my A camera on everything I shoot - but I dream about some improvements that would make my life easier:
    1a. The ability to lower resolution without crop like the 12K (as you've already suggested)
    1b. A handle that has control over start/stop, iris, focus (on auto photo lenses), and a couple of buttons for user presets like FC or peaking, OR the ability to connect 3rd party handles that achieve all of that functionality (so frustrating that you can do all of those things on the RS2 - but not on a 3rd party handle - sheesh)
    1c. Better dynamic range, control of highlights and better roll-off
    2. Full Frame sensor, but still only 6K or maybe 8K max
    3. Better gyro internally to improve the stabilisation in Resolve, as well as improvements in Resolve to control the stabilisation in post
    4. Higher frame rates
    5. Slight redesign to make it thinner so it fits on other camera peripherals better and balances more easily
    6. User interchangeable internal M.2 SSD for storage (Fast 2TB drives for well under $200USD!!) This is kind of what Tilta tried to implement with the screen mod.
    7. Better internal battery life
    8. Better, cleaner proper IRND's to replace the existing ones
    9. Stronger, less plasticky body with stronger weather resistance
    10. Less noise across the board with all of the ISO's that suffer (1000 ISO - unusable...)
    11. Next level colour science
    12. Better spacing on the connections for people with bigger fingers 🙂
    I'd also love to see some improvements to BRAW at NAB, like more compressions (15:1, 18:1) - cleaner compression on the higher end of the scale.
    Also I have some ideas for Blackmagic Cloud service (which is already amazing) - but I'll save those for another post...
    Thanks

Just has a horrible grip design as you can't rotate it like on the C100-C500 series cams. Those are reasonable expectations. I would personally love to see Blackmagic join the L-Mount alliance. There is a plethora of lenses available and being an open system, it will have support for a long time. This would also allow EF-L adapters with swappable filters (such as ND, CPL etc) and open up even more options for adapting vintage lenses, thanks to the change in flange distance. Also, there are excellent L-PL and L-EF adapters available in the market already for those with EF/PL glass :)

    This makes me want a 6k pro, I really feel they finally nailed what it is about. I got the zcam E2 M4 over the 6k OG as I didnt want to haver to rig a camera that already had a screen and everything on it. though as i shoot just for myself I think the pro offers that flexibility that I could have the camera with me always and get great footage. as the zcam always feels a bit bulky and i feel people watching. . . even if they're not. That said what I would do to improve the pro is. add better ND glass less IR pollution and have it so it has the extended mode like canon, going upto 10 stops. Better battery performance. Potentially using their own battery so it shows %. Dual CFexpress type B cards, higher frame rate in 6k, even just prores if has too. potentially a second USBC slot. a modular version also would be dope.

I think with the pocket pro it really isn't about going all crazy it's just honing what they have and making it better. Mirrorless mounts sound interesting but you'd end up paying a lot more.
      Any way all the best Flo

      Yeah I find it really to use hybrid cameras as main video cameras. They are super handy as a last resort or if you are a photographer doing a bit of video but cannot replace a video focused one for sure. I love my R for youtube videos but wouldn't use it for an actual project as the A cam.

    All I ask is for better build quality. Stories of pushing in the hdmi/usb ports or screens delaminating is not what I want to be dealing with especially since you got to send it to Australia to get fixed.
    I don’t care about new sensors or frame rates or any of that. The image and menus and DaVinci Resolve still can’t be beat even by todays camera bodies and pocket line is getting old in the tooth and that’s impressive.

    • @OfTwoLands

      A more rugged and stronger body would be great for sure!!

    Still just too many quality control issues with the Blackmagic for me to use on a professional shoot. And what’s up with the monitor placement? Not great when rigged with a v-mount battery. Also, form factor. They should just shape the design like a traditional cinema camera. It’s not a dslr so why try to shape it like one? Doesn’t make any sense. 6 stops of nd is not enough. I really hope Blackmagic improves because the image quality is excellent. Charger just a little more and make a better camera I say.

    Hi Flo, great video! I was wondering if you also tried/checked out the Canon C70 (since that's also a great camera for travel/docmentary stuff and I saw you have also used a Canon R in the past) In case you did, what did you think about it? And why did you choose to go/stick with the BMPCC6K?

    • @OfTwoLands
      @OfTwoLands  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks!! I did think about the C70 at some point to replace my Eos R for youtube videos (talking heads) and as a B Cam but couldn't justify the price really.
      I made a video about why I sold my C200 and kept the 6K which will probably answer your question in depth :) : th-cam.com/video/cIQNQqEQgd0/w-d-xo.html

      I’ve got both and use them together. Some of the functions are better on the C70, such as autofocus, battery life and 4K120 however I still prefer the 6KPro.
      The C70 is quite soft and despite on paper having more dynamic range it doesn’t seem to be that noticeable. I think the 6K colours are better too plus BRAW is just impossible to beat as a codec.
      It’s hard to go back from using a 5 in daylight viewable screen as well.

    • @rickpostdp
      @rickpostdp ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JonathanPalfrey I rented the C70 for a documentary and really loved it. I was looking into buying one, but every time I see footage from a 6K Pro it makes makes me hesitating. But the longer battery life, dual card slots and better build quality of the C70 are doing it for me.

    • @JonathanPalfrey
      @JonathanPalfrey ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rickpostdp that’s exactly it. There’s just something really special about the 6K Pro image.
      Hopefully a new version could resolve a lot of the issues, simple things like a more energy efficient sensor and processor could solve battery life for example with needing to use a much larger camera. FX3 seems to achieve that on tiny batteries.

    I believe 6k is the sweet spot but if BM is going 8K I wouldn't be mad. A global shutter for sure and 120fps at 4k or higher would be nice. The Super 35 sensor is great and I personally don't have a need for a full frame upgrade. I've always liked the shape of the body but if BM wants to change it up then so be it. I'd be lying if I said I'm not excited or curious for NAB! Cheers!

    The 6k line has been stale for a while. I don’t like the crop even without high frame rate. I think the only meaningful change would be full frame or a super35 Bayer sensor in maybe 4-8k. Things like ibis or smaller body would be great same with codecs and frame rate options but not enough to warrant a new camera imo. Small QoL changes won’t push people that don’t have a Blackmagic camera to shift

    • @OfTwoLands
      @OfTwoLands  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Full frame would be an interesting change for sure!! I think a smaller body with IBIS could definitely push people to jump into the blackmagic ecosystem but not necessarily upgrade for BM owners.

    @michelangelotorres_filmmaker ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wish Blackmagic would announce an 8K BMPCC so the price of the 6K would drop.
    Jokes apart, what I would like is not very different from what you would like: I would like an Ursa Mini in a body that resembles the Sigma FP or the Sony FX30 and Fx3. I really like the idea of the modular camera that can be adapted as needed.
    I wouldn't rule out that Blackmagic would ride the wave of cube cameras and present a 6K Micro Cinema Camera with EF mount and S35 sensor. Let's see what the NAB will bring us

    Nice one Flo as always. I was hoping to have an URSA 12k by now but it's still a way off so I'm thinking of getting a P6K Pro to complement my P4K (I'd expect to keep both once I get the 12K). New camera wishes from BMD for me would be a smaller bodied 8K camera with all the features of the URSA 12K but with a 4:3 sensor for maximising anamorphic a smaller body and a little cheaper and only 8K (oh and with a better screen than the ursa line-up has!) That would be a dream camera for me °¬) Luckily I'm not ready to buy yet so it gives them time to get this camera designed.
