Yes! Some 35 years ago, my son and I visited Taunton, from which my ancestor emigrated to New Haven, Connecticut in 1644. He had been wounded in the Civil War, and the town soon came under siege. His father was the Curate of the St. Mary Magdalene Church. Thank you for screening!
Gosh a few things have changed recently but still recognisable. You went very close to my old school just across the fields at French weir which I presume is still a farm? ha ha.
Very interesting video tour. I went to school there nearly half a century ago and we used to have our annual carol service at St. Mary's where I played the organ for the services. I never knew about the castle, the cricket ground and parks you mentioned but I do remember walking on the bridge to North Street. I never went much beyond the red brick old building, the present tourist information centre. I wish to go back some day.😊
I did work expereince at what was Orchard FM in Taunton in the early 1990s! I must make a return following your video if only for the cream teas and market! The brownies looked amazing too!! I'm not sure about the Park running though 😂
Amazingly small world 😊 !! Sadly Orchard FM is no more. I love local radio (currently listening to BBC Radio Somerset). You would be very welcome back in Taunton some time. There are so many places that do great cream teas here. Those brownies…they named their stall perfectly, because they really are awesome!! 😋

Hi Louise. I think this is your best video yet. Was pleasantly surprised that you posted one today as thought you were still on holiday. I went to Taunton not long ago, but you shared lots of places in the town that I did not know about, so I must arrange a return trip. Really brave to do pieces to camera around the busy market - you captured the atmosphere well. I've done park runs too - used to do them when I lived in Plymouth - but not for sometime. Thanks Paul! Yes, I was keen to make it this weekend because of the glorious sunshine and the independent market being on. After a very long journey (delays 🤣) I got back from my holiday on Friday evening. Thank you so much for your comment about it being my best yet. I had been using a lot of music to fill in gaps in other videos, but there was so much nice natural noise like bird song and market music and bustle that I let nature and my narration carry the video along. It’s also a lot longer than my normal ones. I will be interested to see how it performs. Yes, doing the pieces to camera in the busy market took quite a bit of courage, it’s well out of my comfort zone really, but trying to be a bit more courageous 🤣 I love parkruns! Hoping to do more of them now I have Saturday mornings off 😊
