So to edit that in, I disabled dialogue leveler and forgot to turn it back on. Gamers, don't edit at 9pm because your brain wont work :)

While I like the idea of reporting message, the lack of ANY BASIC FEATURES on the feature is baffling to look at, for a million dollar company they really suck at handling this app.

I once reported this one dude who was sending gore to children on the Minecraft discord server, and after around 3 reports and an email, they didn't respond. I replied to all the emails and they still didn't respond, this man is still not banned.
Giving badges to good reporters would be bad, because there definitely are people who would make fake accounts and post bad stuff just so they can report it with their main account. Thus creating a lot of fake reports.
I'm gonna say this: A Discord badge for good reporters is a really bad idea in the case of scam reports. Because it gives scammer a clear indicator of who NOT to try and scam

Maybe in the case of a cp server, instead of doing all of that unsafe stuff to report it to discord, just report it directly to the FBI, and they'll talk to discord. Just as a workaround until discord fixes their broken reporting system.

I believe the bar for the safety tab is planned for a "trust" factor. If it's in the red, you must've sent in a few joke reports or false flags, and you can have reports disabled, marked as low priority, or worse- ignored. While a high rating in the green means your reports are genuine and they can get on said reports quicker, knowing it's by someone with decent judgement. Akin to CS:GO hacker reports from what I've heard of that.
10:20 - I think that chart would be for the status of reports, Green for a successfully solved report, yellow for pending or unresolved/unreveiwed reports, and red for rejected reports. It's one of the only things I could think the bar is for if this has to do with a report system
This seems useless tbh, i would rather have the rating under the tab of the specific report. Though, it could also be a personal user rating; which could be weaponized depending on if it shows the status of YOU or towards some goal/badge.
I think that the bar in the support tab in settings could be some sort of reputation system that gives your reports some trust when you're on the green bar.
That bar at the end of the video looks more like "reputation". The amount of times this account has been "reported". The more you get reported the lesser your reputation goes, and if it goes into the red zone discord might just delete the account. But its just a theory.

Let me use your own example to explain. When you report someone for abuse and inciting violence, the first thing tns is going to look at is the link in their message. It’s great that you want to tell them what it is, but they would need to look to verify anyway! This is the case with most things people add to reports, which is why I imagine they decided they don’t need additional input. I also want to elaborate a little on the bit on what I said about Discord having a lot of info to look at that you might not realize. You bring up that you can’t tie two reports together, which might seem frustrating! However, it’s typical that someone looking at a report will be able to see things like if the user has been reported previously, how recently, what for, etc etc. A lot goes into evaluating a report, and that kind of meta info is already at the fingertips of the person reviewing. They already have more info than you do! I’ll reiterate that I get being annoyed at change, we all resist it. And I know the system isn’t perfect. There are some things that are pretty annoying (or impossible) to report right now, and I do think Discord needs to address that (though, the feedback site isn’t part of that - that’s not on Discord, it’s its own problem). But I say with sincerity that this change is going to be good in the long run.

After a couple days I got an email back saying that they can't ban the underage user because HE DIDN'T SEND A MESSAGE SAYING HE WAS UNDER AGE. This reminds me a lot of reddit. Before I left that hole, I used to do a lot of manual reporting of bots. I had a bunch of browser tools to streamline the process, was active in unofficial bot defense communities, and had honed my technique to the point where I could usually guess bot status correctly just by the post and username. But over time, reddit's reporting situation got worse and worse. The site redesign moved reporting from a *real* message to admins, with full context, to a pre-made form where you had to choose a reason (which often didn't cover the situation properly) and also had to manually enter each username in specific slots with a cap on the number (horrible for reporting bot rings working together). Then over time they slowly stopped responding to reports, to the point where I could send proof of a botted and sold account posting crypto scams or whatever and it would stay up for months. Finally with the whole anti-third-party crusade recently I decided I was done. They can have their site, nice and overrun with spam. I hope they enjoy it.
I once tried to report a user a couple years ago for being extremely... well, shitty. After spending nearly two hours trying to find out how to report them, I finally found... something? I think it was that "message" to admins or whatever. Anyway, I tried to report them and got no response. That was the last time I ever used reddit lol.
Discord already does not hesitate to ban entire communities and servers full of people, as well as the people in the server who also receive a ban for at best, debatable reasons while letting insane servers stay up. So truthfully, I don't t trust them any.

I think in the last part of the videos the colour would show how it shouldve been filtered, and you would be able to change from high to no filtration, and the colours would show based on what level of how acceptable it is to the system that is filtering the messages

On Twitch you can report channel points, redeems, even community challenges. You can report so much. why doesn't Discord just have an option to just right click a user, not a message, and press report, alternatively open up the big profile and also choosing report. From user based report, you can choose to report username, avatar, banner, bio, pronouns, and such. That's a step in the right direction.
Sucks because even with either of these systems, people will still exploit them and get your account deleted in fourteen days because discord has such a BAD trust and safety systems, and ignore your time specific ban appeals.

Even if the old reporting system wasn’t any better than the new one, and this new one is hopefully part of a revamped, more acceptable version that’s being worked on, I do feel that Discord still dropped the ball on a lot of things here! (More like dropping half of the entire basketball court actually…) they should have kept the old version, and let the community know before any big changes like this! At least with the username change, they informed us that it was happening! And as annoying as that change may have been, at least they let us know! (I will admit, that the reaction to that change was certainly a bit overwhelming though, but with as big of a user base that Discord has, that’s kind of expected. Same with any social media platform!) Even if they *had* to remove the old reporting system, the least they could do is give us a heads up! (This is just speculation here: This kinda feels like a response to the backlash they got from the username change. Since they got so much flak for that just from the announcement, it feels that they decided that the community doesn’t deserve to be notified of changes, because either way, everyone seems to dislike them. Obviously this is 100% speculation on my part, and it could be they just have so many things going on and they just mishandled the rollout, but whether it was negligence, miscommunication, or actual pettiness, Discord should have given their users SOME official notice about this change! Why couldn’t they have just kept both report options and slowly transition users over from using the old report system, to the new one that they are developing? It’s still in very early stages anyway, so they need to have a functioning option while the new one is being tested!) I know that this new one seems both easier, and better to an extent than the old report system, and hopefully it can still be somewhat useful for reporting icky behavior while the full version is being worked on, AND I know that we don’t know how Discord fully works, so they probably had to fully switch to the new report system even though it’s still in beta. Exactly! At the very least, they should keep the description box for reports as well as all the other tools! I’m glad the reports are cached, so they actually are there for Discord support to see… but that seems to be only one positive thing in this whole system! The old one was too much work for your average user, and to an extent, I’m mildly glad (or at least I understand why) they replaced the old system. BUT THEY NEED TO KEEP THE DESCRIPTION OPTION AS A STANDARD FEATURE FOR THIS SYSTEM! Thankfully, this new system is still being developed so they still can add that back in! (And considering it seems they’re moving the whole reporting system into Discord itself rather than divided between two web pages, I’m guessing they may have to either recode that function from scratch to make it work in Discord, or at least heavily modify the old description box code to work in Discord, both app and desktop. Not only do you get to report people DURING a game now, but you can report people in the lobby after a game and give context; AND if you forgot to report them in the lobby, you can access their support page and send in a late report while also adding even more context (and sometimes, screenshots!). Also, if an account adds you and sends you a weird message, you can report THAT as well. Too many League players whine about their reporting system being "broken" (I think it works pretty well these days, most of my reports get handled), but honestly I'd bet money that they're the ones mucking up the community anyways. (I once saw a post of someone literally admitting to using a SLUR and complaining about their account getting banned...) You're right about Discord needing to keep a description option, as well as the fact they should've given us a warning about the changed system... The fact that Discord is *literally* worse than the infamous League of Legends Support System (gasp!!!) is astonishing.

There's a whole lot of *no* communication from Discord lately about how their platform works. Just a few things I've actively needed to go looking for, *beyond* their blog and other socials: - Add Friend Nickname (not even everyone I asked seems to know when this started from) - Highlights (of my sample of several active communities, very few have even heard of this) - Show All Channels (people can't see entire servers sometimes and don't know why) Now reports too? Discord as a whole entity has not said jack about what changes are being made, how they're going to work, why they're being made, etc. *Any* communication at all is almost a miracle, really.

My Discord account got straight-up terminated because they thought I was under 13. It's actually ridiculous. I'm turning 18 soon, so I thought, "Let's appeal this nonsense." I went ahead and gave them my passport and a selfie holding a paper with my username. But guess what? They said the identification was valid but they couldn't validate it because the pic of me holding the passport wasn't in the "same image as my face + holding the paper." Like, seriously? It's so obvious that my face matches the passport. It's been a week, and they haven't bothered to reply to my appeal, even though I did it all in one photo later on, just like they asked. If they don't get back to me by tomorrow, they're gonna delete my account. Great support team discord!

Some time ago, someone posted p0rn on my general channel (because the Discord automoderation filters got reset...) and instead of instantly deleting it, I had to delete it after 1 minute because I needed to click the report button, find the appropriate CATEGORY, and then submit the report...

Discord has a major transparency problem. They continue to make changed to the app without explanation. If they noticed an issue with the reporting system and this is a temporary solution, that would be great to know. But because they don't tell us why they've made changes, the users are left to assume the worst

This seems useless tbh, i would rather have the rating under the tab of the specific report. Though, it could also be a personal user rating; which could be weaponized depending on if it shows the status of YOU or towards some goal/badge.
Something there report system definitely needs and maybe like blue for its sent and gray for pending
I think that the bar in the support tab in settings could be some sort of reputation system that gives your reports some trust when you're on the green bar.
That bar at the end of the video looks more like "reputation". The amount of times this account has been "reported". The more you get reported the lesser your reputation goes, and if it goes into the red zone discord might just delete the account. But its just a theory.

Your lack of faith in tns operators to understand what you’re reporting feels *a bit* disingenuous. Let me use your own example to explain. When you report someone for abuse and inciting violence, the first thing tns is going to look at is the link in their message. It’s great that you want to tell them what it is, but they would need to look to verify anyway! This is the case with most things people add to reports, which is why I imagine they decided they don’t need additional input.
I also want to elaborate a little on the bit on what I said about Discord having a lot of info to look at that you might not realize. You bring up that you can’t tie two reports together, which might seem frustrating! However, it’s typical that someone looking at a report will be able to see things like if the user has been reported previously, how recently, what for, etc etc. A lot goes into evaluating a report, and that kind of meta info is already at the fingertips of the person reviewing. They already have more info than you do!
I’ll reiterate that I get being annoyed at change, we all resist it. And I know the system isn’t perfect. There are some things that are pretty annoying (or impossible) to report right now, and I do think Discord needs to address that (though, the feedback site isn’t part of that - that’s not on Discord, it’s its own problem). But I say with sincerity that this change is going to be good in the long run.
When trust & safety was still a thing a reported someone for being underage, keep in mind they had 11 years old in their about me. After a couple days I got an email back saying that they can't ban the underage user because HE DIDN'T SEND A MESSAGE SAYING HE WAS UNDER AGE. I'd once again like to remind you that IT WAS IN HIS ABOUT ME

This reminds me a lot of reddit. Before I left that hole, I used to do a lot of manual reporting of bots. I had a bunch of browser tools to streamline the process, was active in unofficial bot defense communities, and had honed my technique to the point where I could usually guess bot status correctly just by the post and username. But over time, reddit's reporting situation got worse and worse. The site redesign moved reporting from a *real* message to admins, with full context, to a pre-made form where you had to choose a reason (which often didn't cover the situation properly) and also had to manually enter each username in specific slots with a cap on the number (horrible for reporting bot rings working together). Then over time they slowly stopped responding to reports, to the point where I could send proof of a botted and sold account posting crypto scams or whatever and it would stay up for months. Finally with the whole anti-third-party crusade recently I decided I was done. They can have their site, nice and overrun with spam. I hope they enjoy it.
I once tried to report a user a couple years ago for being extremely... well, shitty. After spending nearly two hours trying to find out how to report them, I finally found... something? I think it was that "message" to admins or whatever. Anyway, I tried to report them and got no response. That was the last time I ever used reddit lol.

Discord already does not hesitate to ban entire communities and servers full of people, as well as the people in the server who also receive a ban for at best, debatable reasons while letting insane servers stay up. So truthfully, I don't t trust them any.

I think in the last part of the videos the colour would show how it shouldve been filtered, and you would be able to change from high to no filtration, and the colours would show based on what level of how acceptable it is to the system that is filtering the messages

thank you for bringing attention to the flaw in reporting cp servers. I've been terminated and made appeals but never got a response despite me being the one to report it.
Reminds me of the time I reported a server run and filled with pedos, and discord did litterly nothing.
On Twitch you can report channel points, redeems, even community challenges. You can report so much. why doesn't Discord just have an option to just right click a user, not a message, and press report, alternatively open up the big profile and also choosing report. From user based report, you can choose to report username, avatar, banner, bio, pronouns, and such. That's a step in the right direction.

Sucks because even with either of these systems, people will still exploit them and get your account deleted in fourteen days because discord has such a BAD trust and safety systems, and ignore your time specific ban appeals.

Even if the old reporting system wasn’t any better than the new one, and this new one is hopefully part of a revamped, more acceptable version that’s being worked on, I do feel that Discord still dropped the ball on a lot of things here! (More like dropping half of the entire basketball court actually…) they should have kept the old version, and let the community know before any big changes like this! At least with the username change, they informed us that it was happening! And as annoying as that change may have been, at least they let us know! (I will admit, that the reaction to that change was certainly a bit overwhelming though, but with as big of a user base that Discord has, that’s kind of expected. Same with any social media platform!) Even if they *had* to remove the old reporting system, the least they could do is give us a heads up! (This is just speculation here: This kinda feels like a response to the backlash they got from the username change. Since they got so much flak for that just from the announcement, it feels that they decided that the community doesn’t deserve to be notified of changes, because either way, everyone seems to dislike them. Obviously this is 100% speculation on my part, and it could be they just have so many things going on and they just mishandled the rollout, but whether it was negligence, miscommunication, or actual pettiness, Discord should have given their users SOME official notice about this change! Why couldn’t they have just kept both report options and slowly transition users over from using the old report system, to the new one that they are developing? It’s still in very early stages anyway, so they need to have a functioning option while the new one is being tested!)
I know that this new one seems both easier, and better to an extent than the old report system, and hopefully it can still be somewhat useful for reporting icky behavior while the full version is being worked on, AND I know that we don’t know how Discord fully works, so they probably had to fully switch to the new report system even though it’s still in beta. BUT, That doesn’t make this mess any less annoying. I just hope that this new system can be refined and working ASAP! And I hope the current version is as decent as they say, and the discord trust and safety team are able to use it to better help users and deal with issues as well!

I’m glad the reports are cached, so they actually are there for Discord support to see… but that seems to be only one positive thing in this whole system! The old one was too much work for your average user, and to an extent, I’m mildly glad (or at least I understand why) they replaced the old system. BUT THEY NEED TO KEEP THE DESCRIPTION OPTION AS A STANDARD FEATURE FOR THIS SYSTEM! Thankfully, this new system is still being developed so they still can add that back in! (And considering it seems they’re moving the whole reporting system into Discord itself rather than divided between two web pages, I’m guessing they may have to either recode that function from scratch to make it work in Discord, or at least heavily modify the old description box code to work in Discord, both app and desktop. I hope they do that and soon! Even if they can’t finish the whole system asap, they at least should focus on bringing the text description box into the system first and foremost! And above all, they should have at LEAST given everyone a heads up or something about!)
@@drewo.127 NTTS mentioned the League of Legends report system, which is honestly pretty great. Not only do you get to report people DURING a game now, but you can report people in the lobby after a game and give context; AND if you forgot to report them in the lobby, you can access their support page and send in a late report while also adding even more context (and sometimes, screenshots!). Also, if an account adds you and sends you a weird message, you can report THAT as well.
Too many League players whine about their reporting system being "broken" (I think it works pretty well these days, most of my reports get handled), but honestly I'd bet money that they're the ones mucking up the community anyways. (I once saw a post of someone literally admitting to using a SLUR and complaining about their account getting banned...)
You're right about Discord needing to keep a description option, as well as the fact they should've given us a warning about the changed system... The fact that Discord is *literally* worse than the infamous League of Legends Support System (gasp!!!) is astonishing.

Discord is destroying their platform by each day
There's a whole lot of *no* communication from Discord lately about how their platform works.
Just a few things I've actively needed to go looking for, *beyond* their blog and other socials:
- Add Friend Nickname (not even everyone I asked seems to know when this started from)
- Highlights (of my sample of several active communities, very few have even heard of this)
- Show All Channels (people can't see entire servers sometimes and don't know why)
Now reports too? Discord as a whole entity has not said jack about what changes are being made, how they're going to work, why they're being made, etc. *Any* communication at all is almost a miracle, really.

My Discord account got straight-up terminated because they thought I was under 13. It's actually ridiculous. I'm turning 18 soon, so I thought, "Let's appeal this nonsense." I went ahead and gave them my passport and a selfie holding a paper with my username. But guess what? They said the identification was valid but they couldn't validate it because the pic of me holding the passport wasn't in the "same image as my face + holding the paper." Like, seriously? It's so obvious that my face matches the passport. It's been a week, and they haven't bothered to reply to my appeal, even though I did it all in one photo later on, just like they asked. If they don't get back to me by tomorrow, they're gonna delete my account. Great support team discord!

i had a friend report somone about 2 months ago for being underage and discord somehow mistook the report and banned him then ignored his appeal and about a month later his account was deleted
I hate reporting messages using the report button. Some time ago, someone posted p0rn on my general channel (because the Discord automoderation filters got reset...) and instead of instantly deleting it, I had to delete it after 1 minute because I needed to click the report button, find the appropriate CATEGORY, and then submit the report...

Moderating a 40k member server and 65k member server and discord pulling all this shit is really something. Cmon discord, help us a little... Very good fun fact (probably bad): Discord has access to every message you ever sent on the tip of their fingers, they save EVERY message sent on the platform, and they can use it against you later, so remember when you said you're 12 3 years ago? yeah they have that and can ban you for it.

Discord has a major transparency problem. They continue to make changed to the app without explanation. If they noticed an issue with the reporting system and this is a temporary solution, that would be great to know. But because they don't tell us why they've made changes, the users are left to assume the worst
The problem is, If you report the server, and it gets banned, everyone in the server gets a warning. That would include you. In some cases, everyone in the server gets banned. That would also include you.
