- The government is now in the last-minute plans to re-introduce the contentious eco-levy tax in its new revenue raising proposals, as it seeks to collect 150 billion shillings more to plug into the deficit caused by the withdrawal of the finance bill 2024. National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi however says, the tax will not affect other sensitive commodities like sanitary pads, but could have a hit on multi-national companies. As Emmanuel Too now reports, the tax amendment bill which is currently being crafted, could be ready by the end of September.

It is not Finance Bill that he is discussing. He is proposing to amend a number of Acts through which some of the proposals that were in the rejected Finance Act will given life.

@@MAURICEAGONDA Mbadi is neither Raila nor ODM. He is the CS-Treasury. While carrying out his functions, CS-Treasury is not required to seek clearance from ODM. And indeed, he doesn't.

This Mbadi man is lost, its not for him to decide which clauses are non contentions its for kenyans to decide what they want. On KRA reforms mbadi is on the right track.
That's why there is the stage of public participation. That's where feedback from the people will be considered. But Treasury has to come up with a draft on which public participation takes place. It is the process of preparing that draft that's underway.

While the bottles are recycled i know you see young men who employ themselves by picking up used bottles and selling them to recycling plants in industrial area this mean if the tax is imposed the products will increase in price and those guys will lack jobs like i said picking up used bottles as u call them (chokoras)

I hope someone finally shares the total government revenue for the last financial year and the current national debt (against the respective projects). GoK only shares new tax collection plans, new debt acquisition plans, and new expenditure plans. My questions regarding the last financial year are; how much revenue did we raise (from taxes), how much debt did we borrow (where from and for what projects?) how much debt has been paid, and how much do we still owe? I hope we're not borrowing for recurrent expenditure.
