This is the latest of his story. You have to start from the beginning. As someone said, go to his TH-cam channel and start from the beginning. His albums too. Yesterday I watched an interview with him with Zach Sang Show explaining his inspirations for his projects. He has bipolar 1 and I believe dissociative identity disorder so he constantly uses his imagination to create multiple personalities, worlds, and stories, during his manic episodes and that’s how he creates such beautiful works of arts. The interview is here on TH-cam just search DPR IAN Zach Sang Show. Worth the watch because the artist explains everything in great detail. After I finished the interview, I binged every single one of the videos and listened to all albums from the beginning and it all became so much clearer.
Love your reactions because it's always great to see people amazed by DPR Ian's work. His name is Christian Yu and he's Korean-Australian. DPR Ian is not Kpop. He used to be part of a kpop group years ago called C Clown but later on after disbandment, he got into co founding Dream Perfect Regime and is also a director, editor and soloist. He directs and edits his own music videos (as well as for other artists). And yes, they're like little movies and will keep anyone invested. Currently this is the latest mv out. And it is a part of a storyline that's very personal to Ian (given that he has both bipolar 1 disorder and dissociative identity disorder). Depending on where you start, you may get the gist of it but I totally understand if this one is confusing to people newly introduced to his works. DPR's channel has a playlist with DPR Ian with all of his mvs, teasers and documentary. The first mv would be So Beautiful.
@@EXPECTATIONSSHATTERED DPR is based in Korea but it's a bit confusing on their classification as k-pop because they're not a part of that industry. Ian used to be in a k-pop group but got away from that image and reinvented himself. They are categorized as k-pop often, like on spotify etc. but they don't follow k-pop standards. Ian's music is experimental blending many genres but he is also a director and has directed for many k-pop artists. I recommend 'Shopper' with IU~he directed and is also featured on that MV
Thank you for ur reaction and welcome to the other side! Ian is a creative genius whose artistry is deeply influenced by his experiences with bipolar disorder and dissociative identity disorder (DID). The storyline of his music videos is intricately connected, creating a unique universe called "the other side", which is depicted in this MV. Several key characters appear in his music videos, including: Ian Technically it's Ian himself. The og or the "host" (kinda like the default persona). He is the who is depicted as being abducted in Mito movie. Mito Ian's alter, often depicted as the villain while his actual role is "the protector", Mito is characterized by a single eye and is often dressed in black, appearing in black and white scenes. He represents Ian's low and depressive episodes. Mr. Insanity Another alter, frequently seen in colorful and sparkly clothing with a clown-like demeanor, as in the video for "Seraph" & "So I Danced" and the one with bedazzled face in this "Saint" MV . Mr. insanity embodies Ian's manic high episodes. The Hybrid A character yet to be revealed, but said to be the most formidable, representing the worst qualities of Ian's other alters. Ian directs and edits all of his music videos. The inverted "DPR +Ian" supers mark indicates his dual role as both director and actor. He is currently getting recognized by broader audience, such a gem! His music videos has they're own cinematic universe, making it a very pleasant visual journey 💎📽️
So with dpr ian every video is at a very high quality level movie and you must know ian is actually the director , editer , composer , producer , song writer. of course he has an incredibly talented team to help him with everything but he is very very much involed in every part he's basucakly a one man army for real . he has a whole lore and his music is so diverse you can never put him in a specific gener . also personaly i don't consider him as kpop just bcs of his nationality he was born & raised in Australia and he sings in english. Pls react more to dpr ian he gonna blow your mind & you gonna add so many bops to your playlist if you give him a chance
thank you so much for reacting to dpr ian! i would love to see you react to more of his stuff :D you're right, there is a big story and you have definitely not started at the beginning haha. id suggest reacting to So Beautiful next! that was his debut. thank you for the wonderful reaction!
Warning: LONG explanation comment ahead. Welcome to the world of DPR Ian! Here is some backstory on Ian and a little catch up on who he is. Ian is Korean Australian, born and raised in Australia until he moved to Korea on a whim at 18. Then he ended up in a kpop group called C-Clown from 2012 to 2015 until they dispanded. Present day, Ian is now in part of the label DPR. So DPR is like an artist collective of different artists that do their own music and production but also come together to make DPR what it is. DPR stands for Dream Perfect Regime and it is basically a place for their members & crew to not hold themselves back and do whatever they can dream of. There are many people that are on the DPR team behind the scenes, and those that are the public artists for the label all have the tag DPR beofre their name. DPR LIVE is a rapper/producer who was the first main face as an artist of the DPR label at the beginning starting in 2019 (he is currently on a hiatus from DPR to release solo music under his own name), DPR CREAM is a music producer, DPR CLINE is a recording artist, DPR ARTIC is a Producer & DJ, and DPR IAN was once just the visual director for all the DPR music videos behind the scenes, but now he is also a music artist as well. There is also a new director, DPR John, who made his director debut working on MVs for DPR CREAM. This whole label started when DPR Ian, DPR REM (who has since left the company in 2022) along with DPR LIVE created DPR together back around 2015. Ian was always known by fans of DPR for being a fantastic director and has directed MVs for all of DPR, and some other big artists and companies somewhat discretly over the years. Ian has always said that he has a wild imagination and has been lucid dreaming almost every night since he was a kid, so he uses making videos and using effects to try to bring to life what he sees in his head. Flash forward to now, when he is directing all of his own MVs instead of for only other people (he still does work on outside projects & other DPR MVs). "So Beautiful" was Ian's first music release 4 years ago and is the start of his story. He directed and edited the video all on his own. The thing with Ian is that he does almost everything himself even with his music and he has maybe 1 or 2 other people off his team help him out sometimes. He writes all his lyrics, produces his music, directs his MVs, and edits them all as well. With Ian's music, it can be very dark, yet all over the place, with a good reason. Ian has Bipolar disorder and has been very open about how that is what inspired his music career. He has said that he knew he couldn't write songs about things he didnt experience or couldn't relate to, so he writes about his struggles with Bipolar disorder. Ian has created a whole storyline and universe around his songs and characters he has created for all of his MVs. (It is seriously too much to get into the whole storyline here because then this comment would never end, but if you want to know I can make another comment) With his bipolar, he swiches for his manic highs to mainic lows, which he has given names to. He said that it may have been dangerous to give his switches names, as it gives them more power in his mind and a kind of ego, but he is learning to deal with it still. So when he is in his manic lows, he is MITO, and in his manic highs he turns to Mr. Insanity. These two are characters in his MV stroylines, but some people don't understand that they are NOT just characters, but in real life they are a part of Ian that he has to deal with. In 2023 Ian also made public that he has a form of Dissociative Identity Disorder as well as his bipolar, which makes his switches to MITO specifically that more prominent as he is a protective alter of Ian's to keep him from trauma. Whereas Mr. Insanity is him when he's manic and is very irrational and doesn't think of consequences, which can be very dangerous. Here in this MV we are seeing a new alter/character that Ian has only recently revealed to us called The Hybrid. The Hybrid is like an in-between of Mr. Insanity and MITO. Kind of like where they meet in the middle between Insanity's crazy and the darkness of Mito (hence the eclipse in the MV) and Ian is still trying to understand it in a way. He has said that he doesn't want to reveal the real name of this alter because he doesn't want what happened with his other alters to happen again because he doesn't want it to have any kind of ego since it's already the best (or worst) of his other alters already. Now, there is a lot that goes on storyline wise besides this, but it's just the base of what we know so far from what he has told us since it is a new addition to the world of his music. I know you were curious about if you dropped in the middle of the story, and yes you 100% did, but it's ok 🤣. So I have to say that if you enjoyed this and are curious about diving into DPR Ian's music again I have put a separate comment in the reply of this one with every release Ian has had in chronological order from the beginning. Not all of them are MVs, but each video has a description so you can see what you want to check out besides the MVs as you go down the list. And hey, DPR is on tour rn and Ian will be releasing more music soon with The Hybrid EP. So you got on right at the perfect time! Anyway, thanks for reading this college essay of a comment and would be happy to leave explanation comments under every one of your DPR reactions in the future! P. S. Sry for any typos 😅

Ian said that he channels music to help cope with his disorders, and this is the epitome of that. Ian has mentioned in the past that whatever music he makes when he is truly going through it mentally with his switches, or when he blacks out, never sees the light of day. This is because it is very personal and often times too dark or honest to be seen by others. But this song is his exception to that. This song was created by MITO and is him talking to Ian. MITO made this song when Ian went through a really bad switch at the end of last year and totally blacked out for a few days. Ian said that when he finally came back to himself, he was left with this song, unfinished and raw. Along with an MV that MITO had gone out and filmed himself with members of Ian's team that he truly trusts. Ian has no memories of making the song or filming the video. We can see the true, vulnerable, and real MITO in this video. Not the story version, but the real one that is a part of Ian. Ian's latest two releases are going to be part of The Hybrid EP: Limbo MV SAINT MV Well, that is all of his releases in order, I hope that helps you or any other people who want to follow his journey from the beginning😊
