Thanks Dr - I've been researching Drum Mowers as my next piece of equipment to purchase: tired of my NH489 haybine! Very informative video and well done..interested in Samasz brand now. Have a good one!

Doc, thanks for the video. Very informative. I'm seriously looking at the SaMasz for my small (30 acres) hay operation. I can get a new SaMasz drum mower for the price of a used - very well used - disc or haybine so it makes a lot of sense to me. The one question I have is can I adjust the height of the SaMasz? I don't want the drums to ride on the ground. I want them a couple inches above the ground. Thanks again for your video.

How was your second cut growth after using the drum mower? I have timothy, orchard grass, clover and blue grass I am mowing with a sickle mower right now. Looking to upgrade to a drum mower but I don't want to stunt my second cut growth. I have looked into the distance rings for the samasz mowers. I can get them but I was not sure if they would I would leave enough stubble with them.

With all the videos I have watched about drum mowers, none have talked about how much stubble is left after cutting.

I think it will depend on the grass. I mostly cut bahia which can be cut low and still come back with good vigor. I did check after the first time I used the mower and it left more than I thought it would. However adding the spacers might be a better fit in your case.

All lawnmowers with drums have an issue of imbalance with the result that they appear damaged. Over time, soil enters the vertical rollers and the cutter begins to break down.........

I haven't seen anything like this to date. This machine is well balanced. I suspect the difference between the size of the drums on this unit and a lawnmower likely come into play.

Samasz made on Poland. Why didn't you buy Samasz disc mower KT series? It''s better. Drum mower are archaic construction, less durable.

It is more expensive, but I would not say better. I have a disc mower also, but didn't want another. The drum has fewer parts, thus less maintenance. The design has also proven to be durable. Also, I wanted a mower that could be used to cut most all forages. I cut enough hay for our cows. If I was trying to make money with hay, I might consider other options. But for the aforementioned points and the economics, I will stick with the drum mower.
