@@ALovelyPenguin ARMY also likes to just randomly begin recharting their discography. If they are snubbed, we stream. If another fandom says something cruel, we stream. And just for fun, such as April Fool's when ARMY recharted their very first album and pretended on Twitter that BTS was a new rookie group. Songs that had NEVER charted even in 2013 made it simply for that project. It was pretty meaningful. Also. Last year we decided to see how many songs we could chart worldwide on itunes and actually had a TON of songs break Adele's record for the most itunes #1.

The messages in their songs reverberate and touch the heart of what it means to be human. This world is a better place because of them. I hope you’ll jump down the rabbit hole with us. I was an army before they became famous. Nobody promotes them except their company and fans. I think it's their motives that sets them apart. They never aimed for worldwide fame they just do their thing for army. And army became bigger and bigger and we just keep requesting from one youtuber to another and many love them. At one point I was suprised they were the most anticipated group at kcon. There is something in them that will make you love them.. In a generation where so many are so obssessed with attention, fame and money, it's refreshing to see people with pure talent and only want to share positive things they're also sweet and humble. Attention, fame, money just follow. And they never forget who brought them where they are now. When they first attended AMA they did not go to the after party instead they live streamed and celebrated with army. And they're still the same boys I've watched back then. They don't act arrogant or even super famous.
The first time I saw them I instantly became a fan. A boyband not singing a love song.. The song's title was Dope... The song was about working hard and perfecting your craft.. Wow!

the thing is that the things youre seeing them go through in the beginning are NOT common among koreas top stars. the big 3 they mentioned are the biggest entertainment companies that ruled the industry you literally had to be from those companies to make it big and bts wasnt most groups from small or medium sized companies usually fail 100s of groups debut yearly and most dont even make it to 100 days before they disband.
it sure has similarities with how people get big in the u.s but its still very much different. also they used the term kpop back in 2013 - 2015 ish but they stopped around 2016 - 2018. kpop is used to downplay bts success or attribute all their success to the korean wave which is why armys dont like to call them kpop because bts success is only bts success and both the korean industry and western industries mistreated bts so armys dont like that they can try to gain clout from using bts name.

Well explained especially about kpop. When people think of kpop they have their own perceptions (like all cheesy songs, more corporate, the members play certain characters/role, machines, etc.). However BTS got to where they are today doing things different compared to majority(not all) of other groups/companies…So calling them kpop makes people think that they are big for all the false reasons…(although kpop isn’t a genre it is an industry)

@@amberpearce710 i agree with your comment mostly however i would steer away from using the word machine to describe asians. even though machine or manufactured means like less creative freedom, certain rules, cheesy songs etc overall the words machines and manufactured when applied to asians has a history thats very dehumanizing. western media uses it a lot as do many western people i even used to use it before the same way youre doing but when i watched bbygangmags videos about kpop vs orientalism i learned how asians whether celebrities or just every day people are often described as being machine like or robotic or manufactured due to the west having a superiority complex and making everything that comes from the east as uncivilized or less human. this applies to all parts of asia not just east asia but as east asian entertainments have been going more mainstream from anime to korean music to korean darmas etc its been used a lot more against east asians lately.
please watch bbygangmags videos to get a better understanding than i can explain in comments.
i do agree about your overall point of bts being different and their success should be separate but i think armys should make sure were not using discriminatory language/ micro aggressions as we do stan asians ourselves and most importantly no one should discriminate against asians in general or anyone for that matter even if unintentionally. :)

Once again, especially after BTS blew up in the US, they gained a lot more "fans" that aren't truly ARMY. If someone is straight up rude in the comments, I can assure you, it isn't real ARMY who know BTS and have been with them on their journey. I've been with them since early 2014 and have been through countless fanwars, bullying, etc. Never once did I retaliate with hatred bc that is not who I am, and that is not what BTS would want either. You should actually react to the rap line's song Ugh! and dkdktv's explanation of it (bc there's a lot of cultural context that's lost in translation)! It talks about how anger can be a good thing used to change the world but the constant malicious anger towards one another on the internet drowns and desensitizes people to the pure anger which could have brought about change in the world.
BTS literally saved my life. As a young teen, I made a lot of bad choices and hurt nyself in many ways. BTS found me in my darkest time and their music pulled me out of that completely. They gave me hope to continue living and work toward a dream. Now, when I'm dealing with bad days of my depression and social anxiety, I can listen to their music and it encourages me to continue working toward my dream.
19:50 I think it's also the American/Western views and stereotypes of "boybands" because there are plenty groups of men not labeled as a "boyband" but as soon as women or teenage girls start liking a group, the groups are called "boybands." And because of how popular nsync, backstreet boys, etc. were, the US continued trying to make cheesy groups like that where all their songs were the same and talked about romantic love or partying. Not to say I don't enjoy that sometimes, but I think many people (especially in the US) are too close minded and quick to judge things that are foreign to them.
Jungkook was actually 13 when he joined the company, 15 when bts debuted.

5 years ago I took a break from university to deal with mental health issues. Im glad I was taking the time to do so but it was difficult and a lot of the stuff I was dealing with I was dealing with on my own. Music was and is such a comforting and healing thing for me so I was always searching for new songs and artists to keep me going. At that time I saw BTS on the 2017 billboard awards, it was the first time I had ever heard of them and they were there to accept an award. During their speech they talked about how grateful they were to their fans and emphasized the importance on loving yourself. The good vibe I felt from them and their speech was powerful and I immediately looked into their music. Three sleepless days followed as I dove into their huge catalog, not able to believe the messages of understanding, comfort and inspiration pouring from every lyric and melody. They guided me home and each day since then as been an easier journey, not because they have fixed my problems but because they have been right beside me as a strength in finding my own voice and color and to face my challenges and fears. I'll never be able to repay them so ill just continue to pass on kindness and love to those around me. Thank you so much for giving your time to react to them, your time will not be wasted. Hope you are happy and healthy.

the problem with the word kpop is it used to mean one thing (the korean idol industry) and it has now been bastardized by the western and korean media in a variety of ways, mostly for the sake of either marketing or, in the west, ostracizing bts from sitting at the westerners-only table in the industry. it was never a word meant to refer to "popular korean music," with the exception of bts and very few other groups music by idol groups isn't popular in korea at all actually. kpop isn't a genre but it's being used as if it is to keep bts out of genre centric constructs - like award show categories, playlisting, etc
one of the members even mentioned in an interview last year that the word doesn't mean anything anymore and they've said multiple times in the past few years they don't want to be boxed into an idea of "kpop"
given how racially loaded it's become in the west, i prefer to avoid it entirely. and especially because bts have kept their involvement with the idol industry itself fairly limited due to how poorly it's treated them
it's a complicated topic but honestly I'd recommended just calling them korean artists because that's what they are

I think of my first click on a video as a portal to a whole world I didn’t know existed but is now my forever home. I’m 50 years old and from an outside perspective it makes no logical sense that I would suddenly feel the way I do about a “boy band” but I love these 7 men with my whole heart. They inspire me and comfort me in a way that nobody else has in a very, very long time. Possibly ever. I actually knew nothing about them or even what they looked like when I started stanning their music. My one and only Kpop group I followed went into the military in 2018 (Big Bang) and I had heard that members of BTS loved them and one even had GDragon as his bias. So I started playing their albums while working a desk job. Pretty soon I'm like, what is this I need more of it. After falling for their music I decided I should get to know these boys and that's when I fell down the BTS rabbit hole and never looked back. I'm now 51 and BTS is unlike any music group I've ever listened to or loved in my life. They are stand outs and unique. There will never be another BTS, just like there will never be another Beatles or Elvis. They are once in a lifetime ICONS.
Oh and the whole I Purple You was made up by V. He brought it up at a concert years ago and explained that purple is the last color in the rainbow and means he will love Army forever and ever, his love is unending. After pretty much melting Armys hearts he admitted he'd made it all up LOLLL! But it stuck and now Purple is the official BTS color.

This presentation of the members unfortunately neglects to mention that Jimin studied martial arts before he studied dance, with a black belt in Taekwondo, and eight years of Kumdo, a fencing art similar to Kendo. The reason I say it's unfortunate is that martial arts techniques and moves make up a significant portion of Jimin's dance style, and BTS's overall dance style is greatly influenced by Jimin's capabilities.
They also did not say he was not given vocal training. He developed his own style, and learns some techniques by watching vocal lessons for the other members. He has immense muscular control from his martial arts training, and brings that to his vocals. His natural voice is tenor, his high parts are assigned to him because he can do them, not because that's his natural preference.

I came across your reaction when just scrolling down my you tube and I loved it . Thanks for getting to know the boys better and yes they were very young when they joined big hit. The members join the company as trainees at different times between 2010 to their debut in 2013 with Jimin being the last to join and had the least of the training time less then a year. They are closer then brothers , I was thinking today that in many cases with groups that have many members even 5 members it feels like a big group but watching bts because of how close they are you sometimes forget there is 7 of them. Anyway im glad I watched your reaction and ill definitely will watch more as you go on your bts journey.

What I really love about BTS is that they work together as a family, they can be goofy and professional in seconds plus they allow each other to create music and release it as a solo. In all the times I have loved other groups they split up to explore their solo projects and then it doesn’t work out and then they decide to get back together but by then the fans have gone and they’re not the same. BTS has got the right recipe to being a group, by giving everyone a chance to release songs as a vocal line, rap line, as a solo and as the group. It’s altogether all the time. That is why they can reach heights that no other group or artist has ever done. (Just my tuppence 😆😆).

So when Jk said he join the group as 15 in fact he had 13.
The group debut when he had 15.
To put it simply, when you are born you are already 1 years old. And Koreans are all a year older on January 1, not on their birthday.

Hello😋, stellar reaction I must say. We are usually here for long reaction because there is a lot to understand first about them, Army and their music.
We love to kill with kindness, but it’s only warranted when we aren’t talking about racism, industry hate and double standards. That’s why the Kpop idea rubs us sometimes the wrong way too- they are categorised Kpop to “other” them. Putting BTS in the foreign act category when they are quite literally topping the US Charts with multiple all English songs. Making up Kpop Award categories just so they won’t appear in the main one (Best song, Album etc), not putting them on the radio because “who would listen
to Kpop” while they are outselling not only their Kpop but their US peers 🤡.
They have as much streams as the 20 next Kpop groups combined.
Did you know they are the biggest touring act in the US? 240k people came to 4 shows just 2 months ago - but surely no one on the radio would listen to Kpop🙃🙃
How about BTS Army by XCeleste or BTS hardships? Or literally anything on her channel 🤓
    Good luck 🤞

nope bts dont keep it pg their discography is they have something for everyone instead of a overall image or overall niche or whatever they just have songs for everyone. example kids can listen to butter, dynamite, permission to dance and other songs maybe dna, fake love, gogo etc freely anyone can listen to these songs im just saying i named some kid friendly ones
however kids maybe shouldnt listen to the cyphers, converse high, baepsae etc because those have curses in them however kids who dont know korean could probably listen freely but kids who do understand korean would probably be steered away from a few songs.
but if a parent doesnt shelter their kids and allows them to listen to curses or innuendos then bts entire discography is great.
basically theyre NOT pg but theyre also do have pg songs if that makes sense.
i hate how people assume theyre pg just cause theyre a band of guys not even a boyband in the cliché sense lmao

The thing with K-pop is that yes they are part of BTS but only as one of the elements of who they are but it doesn't make sense to categorize them as just K-pop as most media in general tends to do. And that's because K-pop's path to popularity and BTS's path to popularity, although related in the beginning, are very different. There is a very interesting and informative video essay on this that people have reacted to before and you could check out as well that explain K-pops history and BTS's story and how they relate. They are one of a kind. They kickstarted their concerts in Las Vegas last Friday. Directly after the 1st one (1h later?), after arriving at his hotel room, RM (Namjoon) turned on the phone for a vlive (the app where they do live streams) and talked to us for about 30 min, while having dinner and exhausted from 3h concert. And he didn't turn on to just say "hey, did you like it?" "were you there?" WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE. He came online for the real talk.

💜 About "Borahae", someone correct me if I'm off...💜
ARMY light sticks (ARMY bombs) originally only made white light. One time ARMY covered their lights with purple fabric. BTS was impressed with the purple glow. This was awhile before V came up with "I purple you." Or it could have been earlier that same day; I don't remember. But it seems to have been a factor, drawing V's attention to the specific color purple.
After V's explanation of purple, I think it was RM who said to V, "I didn't know about the meaning of purple, (the quality of continuing far into the future), to which V answered with a grin, "I made it up that day!"
[I totally relate. I grew up with eccentric family that coined words, and I married into a family of wordsmiths.]
Saying, "I purple you" is our code that no one outside ARMY will understand until they hear V's reasoning.
"Borahae" is the word V coined out of the Korean words "bora" (purple) and "Sarange" (I love you). It helps if you understand how the Korean language can condense a sentence into a single word, but I won't get into that. Just know that "Borahae!" and "I purple you!" are the way BTS and ARMY say, "I care, I value you, I delight in you, I wish you happiness, and you can depend on those things continuing into the future."
Imho, "Borahae" is a stroke of genius. It lets fans and BTS say "I love you" without encouraging anyone to go down the path of "I'm in love with you; We are in love; My bias told me I was his only love. Why doesn't my bias love me the way I love him?" and so on. Borahae emphasizes caring, valuing, gratitude, loyalty, and even delight, but it is a shared appreciation, not a possessive attitude. BTS doesn't have to worry about being misunderstood, so they can be free to voice their gratitude and joy. Fans say it to each other as well.
And it means we get to see my favorite color all the time!
    💜 💜 💜 💜 💜 💜 💜
    Borahae, Mike!

Don't be deceived by #Jimin's cute and pretty face, he is a taekwondo blackbelter and had high level in Kendo (Japanese martial arts in swords). Like RM, Jimin is genius as his reputation in school since gradeschool is "the god of math". Jimin is also very altheletic and how he loves to do long runs. As a matter of fsct, Jimin has incorporated his Martial Arts skills in their early hardcore choreography. Though, his talent in playing musical instrument is poorly showcased because dancing is his first love, it is apparent that he had advance lessons in piano, SK's traditional flute and chaligraphy printing. Today, Jimin has been considered as SK's K-Pop frontman as he holds the longest "KPop's No. 1 Brand Reputation" for whatever he eats and wears, it sells like hot potato. More often, Jimin's talent is often underrated as in this video. Perhaps, people are easily drawn by his adorable and enegmatic aura. What gives BTS the charisma and confidence since their debute which made them different from all the global pop-hitmakers is simply because all 7 of them are, basically, good people who are determined, disciplined and apt for challenges for the love of their fans, the Army, and Jimin happens to be the first and easiest member to show that goodness in them either in deeds or by his words.

What always impresses me with RM is the fact that he can goof with the guys all the time and still get 100% respect from them when needed. It must be a fine line sometimes. They all respect him so much. Being the only fluent english speaker, he carried a lot of the load for international promotions and interviews, but he always helped each member to learn a useful line or two in english so they could feel included too. Jin's 100 itunes #1s means it topped the chart in 100 countries. It bothers me a little when they focus on the "World Wide Handsome" aspect of Jin so much. As a new fan I honestly thought he was arrogant and conceited at first (because of the way he was portrayed in some introduction videos), but he is none of those things (he says that stuff as a running joke)..he is probably the shyest member and does so much for the other team members. Korean age is different from global age, Jungkook was actually 13 in global age when he signed his BigHit contract. It works like this.....Koreans are considered 1 year old at birth and all turn 1 year older on the next Jan 1 of each year. They celebrate on their actual birthday, but increase their age number on Jan 1. For example....Tae (V) was born Dec 30/95...he was considered 1 year old that day...2 days later (Jan 1/96) he turned 2 years old (even though he was 2 days old). There is some talk of them getting rid of that system in Korea and becoming consistent with global age, but we have to keep in mind when they say their ages that they were mostly 2 years younger than what they say. It must have been so hard for JK to leave home for good (and for his parents to let him go) at such a young age....thank goodness the guys were so good to him and treated him like a brother from the beginning....they really are a family. The fact that they have put so many hours and years into perfecting their craft and still give all the credit to ARMY is mind boggling sometimes. Yes we are a powerful fandom, but they put in the hours. It's such a symbiotic, beautiful relationship and it keeps us forever loyal. Thanks for a great reaction. I have been to concerts for some huge names, who don't appreciate their fans at all once they reach the top. Subscribing. I am a 63 year old ARMY from Canada and I couldn't be happier to have found them. I think you would be impressed with this video about BTS ARMY...it blew my mind when I saw it th-cam.com/video/iEy4wSU0t88/w-d-xo.html That clip at the end where they were emotional on stage...ARMY in England sang one of their songs to them in Korean...that's love.

Also probably looked down on because they're closely associated with teen girls, people can be very mean and weird about stuff that's seen as "typical teen girl" hobbies. There's a reason that the "I'm not like other girls" phase is so common for us.

It's been fun watching you get into BTS! You seem genuine, they seem genuine, and I think their overarching theme of "Love Yourself" will resonate with you.
I'd love to see you discuss more of their set-dressing, since I have not seen many people in that field do reactions (compared to dancers/choreographers/producers, etc.) For set dressing, I highly recommend their Korean Blood Sweat and Tears video. It's always my go-to video for introducing people to BTS. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the set dressing of that video, in particular. (And I will clue you in- it is heavily influenced by the book Demian, by Herman Hesse).
Since set dressing is your specialty, and I enjoyed your reaction to the "behind the scenes" of Fake Love, maybe instead of going dance practice reactions, like a lot of people do, you could do "MV Behind the scenes" reactions, which I haven't seen much of.
Daechwita by Agust-D would be another fantastic set-dressing choice! I'd love to hear your reaction to both of those MVs, in particular!
You said in an earlier video that BTS isn't really the kind of music you listen tend to listen to. What genres do you prefer? BTS has dabbled in many, so we can probably recommend some BTS tracks that might be more up your alley. Mic Drop is a great one, and very different from the two tracks you've reacted to. Might be more up your alley. musically.
Finally, whoever recommended you dive straight into the Deep End of the Bangtan Universe Lore was a jerk! Especially for not warning you first. I've been ARMY for years and I've never gotten that deep into the lore! And starting with Spring Day? Rough initiation. Sorry!

Blood Sweat and Tears I think is my next video I will be doing for them! Daechwita is also high on my list of videos to watch! I am very excited for that one!
When I said its not a go to, I more meant just for that song. I actually really like BTS for the songs I know. I am mostly a Rock Guy, punk, pop punk, hardcore, alternative, metal, emo, but I like a lot of different music from other genres too! I am just a huge music fan. Music from Asian countries such as Korea and Japan are very new to me so I am enjoying taking it slow and reacting to it as I go!! I am definitely finding songs that are going on my playlists!

Please bear in mind that when they talk about their ages, they are talking in Korean age, which is 1 to 2 years older than international age. So Jungkook was 15 Korean age when he joined, but 13 in international age.

So funny when you call out the comments that were giving you heartburn about something you innocently said like the kpop thing. While the commenters were correct, you were also correct since BTS was originally formulated in the same manner as kpop idols but the entire premise of BTS in BigHit’s mind was to go beyond the kpop/hip hop/rap styles of basic kpop groups and incorporate any and all genres with integrated content.

I'm glad someone recommended this introduction even though is still a draft, I think is so far one of the best out there (it gives a lot of insight on each members and their personalities). Thank you again jeje, love your reaction and you seem like a very down to earth person 💜💜

Some of the introductory videos are unintentionally misleading. When it says something like Suga is the main producer in BTS, people take that as he is the main producer of BTS. There are several producers of BTS, including BTS members, but the main producer is Pdogg. I think it would be clearer to say that of the BTS members, Suga does the most producing - either of BTS or of other artists.

@@rikhmjustsomeguywithmousta4971 I have looked at the credits. He is one of the producers, but if you look at the number of credits, the main producer is Pdogg. What do you consider a "main producer"? I think of the main producer as the one credited the majority of the time. As Agust D, I would consider Suga as being the main producer. I haven't look as closely at the credits for TXT, but I think Slow Rabbit is becoming their main producer. Supreme boi seems to be the main HipHop producer for BigHit groups, and BangPd does whatever he wants with Hybe groups.

If you like chaos, you've come to the right place. I saw other comments that said the video didn't focus enough on their talents, but you can see that in their videos and performances. I would venture to say that a large percentage of ARMY, especially those of us over 40, came for the talent but stayed for the guys themselves. They are so fun and funny and sincere and loving (among themselves and to the world) and that's a large part of why I love them more than any other artists I've ever been a fan of. Definitely dive into the chaos if you truly want to know these men.

He was 15yrs old in Korean age but his international age was 13/14yrs old, the way Korean age works when they are born they are classed as 1yr old, honestly google it it will explain it better. You probably already know by now but BTS performed at the iconic WEMBLEY STADIUM in 2019 and had 2 sold out shows there, and also they were only the 12th artists to have sold out the stadium, now you think about how many musical artists there are in this world and for BTS to be only the 12th artists to accomplish this is AWESOME, also there is a video on youtube where ARMY surprised BTS by singing their song FOREVER YOUNG to them, it honestly made me so proud to be British. 💜🔥💙

Just a little correction, he didn't quarantine 2 weeks, by the time he travelled there was a special rule for fully vaccinated foreign visitors in South Korea. He and his team were able to apply for a special exemption so they had a shortened quarantine (I can't remember if it was 24 or 48 hours) and had to stay on only one location during their whole visit

26yo here. I was in the crowd during the 1:00:42 clip and it was a beautiful moment. You really see how diverse ARMY is when you go to their concerts. The arena there held various pubs, restaurants and bars within it. Before and after the concert all these spaces were absolutely PACKED with only ARMY in it; strangers drinking and singing BTS karaoke together in the bar, an entire restaurant of people singing the same song over their meals and bursting into laughter, groups of people handing out freebies and collecting for charities. After the concert so many people were crying from those post-concert blues, and groups of fans walking past would run over to comfort them without even knowing them. I can't count the amount of times a complete stranger helped me out that day in some way.
ARMY may seem scary as a force but (as much as saying it makes me want to vom in my mouth) it's a force of love. 💜🐋
Anyway, I am enjoying watching your journey! Maybe one day you'll join the ARMY too? I promise it's not a cult. 😬
