The 2015 Premio Paganini International Violin Competition, held in Genoa, Italy, produced a first prize for the first time in nine years - and the winner was a young Korean violinist called In Mo Yang. In addition to the First Prize, Yang also received the prizes for the youngest finalist at the age of 20, for the best interpretation of the contemporary original piece, and for the performance most appreciated by the audience; there was no doubt that a new star had been born. Since the competition, Yang’s inbox has been flooded with invitations from leading concert halls and companies. Amidst such flurry of concerts and engagements, Yang also managed to complete a Bachelor of Music degree course at the New England Conservatory of Music.
Now selected for the prestigious Artist Diploma program at the New England Conservatory, Yang looks forward to offering more concerts in Korea. He has been selected for 2018 Artist Residency at Kumho Art Hall andreleased his debut album in November. Now only in his mid-20s, this rising young star of the classical music world is sure to surprise the world yet more with his passion and talent.
2015년 이탈리아 제노바에서 열린 프레미오 파가니니 국제 바이올린 콩쿠르에서 9년 만에 1위 수상자가 탄생했다. 바로 한국인 바이올리니스트 양인모가 그 주인공이다. 1위 뿐만이 아니라 출전 당시 스무살의 나이로 최연소 결선 진출자상, 현대 작품 최고 연주상, 청중상까지 휩쓸면서 그야말로 클래식의 세대 교체를 예고하기도 했다. 콩쿠르 우승 이후 해외의 유서 깊은 공연장과 악단들의 초청이 쏟아졌고, 와중에 뉴잉글랜드 음악원의 학사과정까지 맞추느라 눈코뜰새없이 바쁜 나날을 보냈다.
그리고 올해, 뉴잉글랜드 음악원에서 최고 연주자 과정에 들어서면서 본격적인 국내 활동에 청신호를 켰다. 2018년 금호아트홀 상주음악가로 선정돼 1년 간 활동 중이고, 11월에는 데뷔 음반까지 발매하면서 팬들과의 스킨십에 노력하고 있다. 이제 겨우 20대 중반에 들어선 신예 아티스트 양인모. 세계를 향한 그의 열정과 패기를 만나본다.

i was scanning through recordings of the paganini caprices last week to find one to listen to in its entirety for the first time. of course there are many great recordings of the caprices and i thought i would end up picking an older recording. as luck would have it though, i came across one that yang had released only a few days earlier.
with works like this that require such technical virtuosity i find them overwhelming to listen to sometimes. but the way he approached them seemed to help my ear to understand them more somehow. you can feel an intention behind every part he plays. and the live element just adds to it.
im really looking forward to his future recordings. in the meantime ill have to binge on youtube videos 😃
