Once again I find myself tuned in to your shows Malcom, you commented recently that: "You force yourself to sit and calm yourself" This is interesting, because I find it so hard to stop tinkering and looking for things to do....that really dont need doing.....So your gift to me is making the effort to sit and calm,,,,and begin to read the unread books I have treasured for years.Thank You Malcolm

I like the poem too. I think I'll watch again.
As a fellow pipe smoker, that tobacco looks good. I like that style of pipe as well.

Anregend , beruhigend - ein Fluchtweg aus dem allseits galoppierenden Wahnsinn
Das neue Wort dafür ist bei uns hier "Entschleunigung"
    Herrlich 😊

Malcolm, I was recommended to you by one of the members of a book club. Since his recommendation I have loved your pipe smoking, bookshelf, desk, and your thoughts. Feels like a mini book club every time. Thank you for what you do.

What a great poem. Very nice pipe. We definitely have buried deep in our souls memory of Eden.

    😊😊😊😊

Tremendous! The only negative is that I have not come across your channel earlier. Your presentation, your pipe enjoyment and smile are all wonderful positive triggers that are going to bring my household wonderful joy watching your videos. I generally only smoke cigars these days, but after watching a few of your videos, I am encouraged to pick up my Peterson of Dublin that I purchased in Ireland many years ago with my wife and enjoy some fine tobacco with a cup of tea and a good book. Thanks for the joy you are bringing to this community. Many blessings to you and yours, from Canada.

Must add Muir to my list. Have read too few of his poems.
Have had Navy Roll once during my time in Britain. Miss the varieties in tobaccos one found there.
    Great that you are back.

Evening Malcolm, nice to see you back in the study! I always envy people, like Muir, who have a spiritual awakening from out of the blue, so to speak.
The Navy Rolls are a good smoke, but l do miss Escudo, which is similar, but not available in the UK.
    God bless, and happy puffing!

I’ve been greatly enjoying your musings Malcolm which I ‘tune in’ to at bedtime to help me find peace. I found this episode of particular interest as it focuses on Eden. I have long imagined what it must have been like for Adam to see almighty God walking in the garden ‘in the cool of the day’ as some translations record it. And I always assumed, as do many, that this would have been in the evening. However, having spent a little time in Israel and Palestine I’m now of the opinion that ‘the cool of the day’ may actually mean the early morning when the heat of the previous day has dissipated, the sun is low in the sky and the air is alive with the stirring of birdsong and the promise of a new cycle of life. From my experience of the Middle East the coolest time is usually not in the evening, but after dawn when the light is gentle and nature stirs anew. I think God would have liked being there at that point in the new day very much. Were I to have been granted the chance to see the Creator walking and enjoying his garden I would have fallen at his feet…
Bless you in your work Malcolm. Jung and Kierkegaard were soothed and encouraged by the pipe. May your lighter never run dry.

I have a MacBaren Dark Twist blend that also comes rolled into medallions like that and has a nice maple flavor. It is quite relaxing just crumbling them as I get ready to fill my pipe. I agree, there's so much more to pipe-smoking than just the actual smoking and the traditions steady and focus the mind, almost as if it's rooting one in Eden. 😉 Great poem.

What a charming and insightful reading of those two Edwin Muir poem, I've always felt that poetry is best communicated in intimate conversation. That is exactly what this video achieves. Muir is forgotten in the U.S. What a joy to hear this celebration of his work, suffused in the speaker's love for the poems.

Hello Malcolm, only recently discovered your channel but already recommended it to several friends for various reasons. I cannot thank you enough for the wonderful views you pass on. Would you consider giving you viewers a tour of the tobaccos in your rotation please? Im sure there would be many others interested in the types you like and the reasons behind your choices. All the best, a fellow East Anglian.

O, just found this whilst listening to Beethoven's 7th. How does someone write something like THAT?!!!!! Mindblowing. If God could write a symphony like that most folk would believe in him.
Will listen to both at the same time.
"There is no life or death
    Only activity,
There is no space or time,
    Only intensity,
And tame things have no immensity"
Mina Loy (shame she's so overlooked. But as Virginia Woolf once famously said.... "for many years anon was a woman")
Fits in well with the Beethoven
Thank you for this lovely film, Malcolm.
An oasis amidst the insanity 🌹🎶🏵️

Mike Scott used the phrase “one foot in Eden” in one of the early Waterboys songs. I always wondered if that was a literary reference and what it might mean. Now I know a bit more.

Ethereal' effigy, ~ broken' conformity. "Solid" in state of mind. Totem' erected, arisen' be-all under, it's dominant' place. Unto' low standing, before' such omnipotence - lacking. Far passed' hind-sight, by those left' with history. And stretching' farther still. Ground-up' in the progressive mill, - of Ezekiel's wheel. Turning, churning' while ever' burning'! Where-so' does clever; But' individual value, gone' "forever." Every ending' justified, honor glorified. Isolated flag, "a cross" stood high. Stolic' to patroned' eyes. Given' brief worship, from steady drone. Waved' marching, of single thought. Stale' unity, for a timeless' entity. Counting each' step, masses' take in' stride. Delivering' an existential reason. That' fails, answering' why?

How do you respond to the Universalism of George MacDonald? In the 2017 documentary film you appeared in you mentioned it as something of a "generous message".

    • @MalcolmGuitespell
      @MalcolmGuitespell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think its much misunderstood and confused with a facile universalism that doesnt take evil or freewill seriously. Macdonald does both and his universalism, if that's what it is, is really a gospel hope rooted in the patient and inexorable love of God

Very sad that of all the fairy tales and fantasy you read, you can’t tell the bible is the biggest of them all. Would invite you to add the work of Christopher Hitchens to your library.
